Looks like it doesn't upload the file, just calculates its hashes client-side, and passes them to some subtitle search API.

    POST https://suub.onrender.com/api/subtitles/search
    {
      "hash": "cf5d493763954141",
      "subdbHash": "e930e3833542f4fce3dd041c957e8de8",
      "napiHash": "6ccaa1b4e5b6778812ac841b7a35ab18",
      "fileSize": 63816128,
      "fileName": "recording.mkv",

Re:Millions of Pages of Epstein Documents Released on Saturday January 31, 2026 @06:34AM (#46835668)
You can usually read the original timestamp in the page source, the relative ones are often put in by client-side JS:

    <div style="…">
      <span aria-hidden="true" style="…">Jan. 30, 2026, 11:28 a.m. ET</span>
      <span style="…">2m ago</span>
    </div>
I have no idea what the parent commenter means, but the painted style is common here too (on web, paper, physical signs, …). For example:

https://vcdn.bergfex.at/images/resized/15/80010a99cadafa15_3...

https://vcdn.bergfex.at/images/resized/b4/df672c7f06a8f7b4_a...

Looks great! However i'm a bit concerned about these "AI-Powered Analytics", looks like it would leak user-submitted data to Groq.com?
I get zalgo-like glitches (overlaying notes) when resizing the viewport width in Firefox. Looks kinda cool though: https://i.vgy.me/JQsqZO.png
Re:Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Joyful Life on Saturday October 26, 2024 @10:18AM (#41954869)
I have these in my google calendar. Kinda forgot they were japanese and they don't line up with our (european) weather perfectly, but i still enjoy seeing them there.

Found them on HN years ago: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20377098

Ah, i kinda expected the UI (https://i.vgy.me/beZtWa.png) to show the actual PDF page number, never noticed the "i" thing. Thanks.
Re:You can deeplink to a specific PDF page on Friday July 12, 2024 @08:56AM (#40945111)
Looks like the pages are zero indexed? That sample link with page=70 got me to page 69 (in both Firefox and Chrome on Linux)

Browsers can simulate that without a proxy too: https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/devtools-user/networ...

Chrome can also throttle the CPU power: https://www.wikihow.com/Throttle-Your-Browser-for-Testing

Did that with an old Thinkpad (X32 iirc) years ago. I use Gentoo and some packages (like gcc) could only be compiled during winter months or in a fridge.

Also sucessfully rescued some old NVidia card with baking oven around that time…

Yeah exactly… I guess there might be some waviness/height/length ratio where the extra length and the absence of posts evens out.
Just a little bugreport – in Firefox, the "insert image" invisible file input covers buttons to the right: https://i.vgy.me/q1sYHX.gif

Setting its width to 100% (of the parent button) fixes it. Doens't happen at all in Chrome.

I would create an issue on github, but just the "grid" component is there and this is outside of it…

they don't use less wood than a straight fence though :)

I live in a tiny village with a shit ton of space for anything, but would prefer this over a power hungry server anyway… At least until i fill part of the barn roof with solar panels.
Re:Cool but Obscure X11 Apps on Thursday July 13, 2023 @10:46AM (#36710014)
not a player, but there was (is?) xvideo extension: https://www.x.org/releases/X11R7.5/doc/man/man3/Xv.3.html

i remember it as an mplayer output option mplayer -vo xv [file]

The EU has this tool for viewing solar radiation data and estimating energy yields based on location & angle: https://re.jrc.ec.europa.eu/pvg_tools/en/tools.html

The interface isn't great, but i find it pretty useful sometimes.

Thanks!
I'm afraid we killed it… I see just a gray base map and the browser is getting a "504 Gateway timeout" from the API:

    This Serverless Function has timed out.
    Your connection is working correctly.
    Vercel is working correctly.

    504: GATEWAY_TIMEOUT
    Code: FUNCTION_INVOCATION_TIMEOUT

Looks like it's been up since late 2006 [1]? Wow. "Pimp Your Profile Pics for MySpace!"

It's quite refreshing to see the edits are done server-side and page reloads after a POST request in this age of web(gl/assembly/whatever).

I'm pretty sure people would be interested in some writeup of your tech choices and how they stood the test of time.

https://web.archive.org/web/20061001000000*/lunapic.com

My schema breaks it somehow, the POST request to openapi.prod.scanner.cloud.escape.tech/fast returns a 502 after ~20s: https://i.vgy.me/D14u3k.png

Blocked by what?
Re:DNS0: The European public DNS that makes your internet safer on Tuesday February 07, 2023 @09:54AM (#34693534)
If anyone's wondering which are the "High-risk TLDs" blocked in the "zero" filter: CF, CG, GA, GQ, ML, TK, TOP, WIN (right now, i guess it may change any time)

The "kids" filter blocks the same TLDs, so it allows XXX or PORN, i guess they just block individual 2nd level domains.

I just looped through IANA's TLD list with a simple script to get this. The resolver returns NXDOMAIN with "negative-caching.dns0.eu." SOA for the blocked ones:

    $ kdig +tls ns tk @zero.dns0.eu
    …
    ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY; status: NXDOMAIN; id: 39321
    …
    ;; QUESTION SECTION:
    ;; tk.                   IN NS

    ;; AUTHORITY SECTION:
    tk.                  300 IN SOA negative-caching.dns0.eu. hostmaster.tk. 0 1200 300 1209600 300
Re:DNS0: The European public DNS that makes your internet safer on Tuesday February 07, 2023 @09:30AM (#34693195)
JS does a GET request every 2 seconds or so to some random subdomain (probably to avoid caching): https://i.vgy.me/qCTabA.png

The JSON response contains 'status: "unconfigured"' when you're not using their resolver and 'status: "ok"' when you are: https://i.vgy.me/iVgIe1.png

That green bar just appears after a "ok" response (no page reload needed).

Re:DNS0: The European public DNS that makes your internet safer on Tuesday February 07, 2023 @08:14AM (#34692288)
thanks, looks like you're right:

    $ kdig +tls www.youtube.com @kids.dns0.eu
