Good point! I already write some stuff down that I never intend to read myself but hope would be of some use for future generations. It's not always easy knowing what's worth recording. And sometimes really boring stuff can be interesting 100 years from now, but you wouldn't know.

Yeah, that's my feeling too. It's an impressive and interesting project, but I don't want to do that with my life. It has had its ups and downs and some things I just don't want to dive back into like that (and don't want others to read either).

The genealogy part – researching my ancestors' life – feels more useful.

Re:Shell Tricks That Make Life Easier (and Save Your Sanity) on Thursday March 26, 2026 @04:57AM (#47528095)
In my terminal it's the exact opposite – Alt-Backspace deletes to the previous space, whereas Ctrl-W deletes to the last non-alphanumeric (such as /). I'm using fish shell in an Alacritty terminal.

Yeah, pressing Ctrl-W accidentially is a pain sometimes ... but Ctrl-Shift-T in Firefox is a godsend.

Re:I dumped Windows 11 for Linux, and you should too on Sunday January 11, 2026 @09:57AM (#46576244)
I use Reaper for Linux and love it. Getting Windows VSTs to work is okay with lin-vst and wine. Bascially install wine with your package manager, maybe run winecfg, then get lin-vst and make a copy of its single so-file, named the same as each vst binary in the same directory, then add that dir as a vst location in Reaper. As far as I remember.
I was sure SMB3 was Super Mario Bros 3.

Hilarious! WYGIWYG :-D
Re:My Ed(1) Toolbox on Thursday September 25, 2025 @03:50AM (#45370295)
Is there really an advantage to using Ed instead of vim in any situation whatsoever? (Assuming you're totally comfortable with vim)

Re:A brief interview with Tcl creator John Ousterhout on Sunday July 21, 2024 @04:03PM (#41027701)
I can also very much recommend his book about programming methodology. Lots of good sane advice there for anyone wanting to learn more about structuring code and keeping everything readable and bug free.
Re:Virtual Tour of Museum of Failure on Friday January 19, 2024 @04:15AM (#39053345)
A fun site indeed, but I felt that the entries were quite random. Many were successes that eventually failed (as many do) and others were failures that became successes, and everything in between. What's the real criteria for inclusion?

Haha, my thoughts too! :D
Re:How to Write a Cold Email on Friday November 17, 2023 @04:16AM (#38301235)
I read the whole article but still don't understand exactly what a "cold email" is and why it's cold.
