Re:Ask HN: Drunk programming?

I think the key to programming drunk is keeping it to one or two beers. Sometimes when programming sober I become distracted thinking too much about ideas for other features or even other projects. A beer or two can help ease your anxiety and help focus. Also the amount of work left to be done to complete an application can sometimes feel overwhelming and kill my motivation to continue. Sometimes a couple beers can help with the hardest step which is just start. So next time your dreading starting a new feature just pop a cold one, relax and watch the code flow.
Re:Ask HN: What problem does Foursquare/Gowalla/Places solve?

I agree these companies are more for entertainment and socializing than "solving a problem". You can easily argue the twitter doesn't solve a specific problem, as with most geolocation services it is merely a tool for sharing information.
Having said that I think there is a real problem that can be solved using geoloction technology and that problem is "where the heck are you?". My roomate and I moved to a new city recently and had an terrible time coordinating meetups with people. To solve our problem we created a simple web app. We posted it on HN a couple days ago http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1607982

I tried using on my work BB and it wouldn't load the map. Than I remembered that google maps won't work at all in the BB browser. When I try to go to maps.google.com it tells me to download the google maps app for BB.

I just tried this on my nexus one and it works pretty well. Surprised at how accurate the GPS is. The mobile version is very nice too. I like how it is just a map with controls overlayed, very clean. I think this could be very useful for meeting up with friends. Eliminates the "where are you" conversation. I am going to try this out with a friend later when I am actually moving.
