Because sometimes skipping is not enough: https://mrwint.github.io/winter/writeup/writeup.html
It seems it's because OP is generating the whole screen every frame / every move. Of course that will give inconsistent results.

I wonder if this approach would work better:

1. generate the whole screen once

2. on update, create a mask for all changed elements of the underlying data

3. do an inpainting pass with this mask, with regional prompting to specify which parts have changed how

4. when moving the camera, do outpainting

This might not be possible with cloud based solutions, but I can see it being possible locally.

So something that is not a thing yet, and is being actively campaigned against?
This prompted me to check how long ago I was 13 years old.

It was 26 years ago.

Are we old yet?

I remember getting this bug on accident when I was a kid. I was building a tunnel, but clicked the wrong tile. It popped up a huuuge sum of money and I got scared that I messed up and I'll go bankrupt, only to realize I now had 2B dollars...

You probably meant Apple devices in general? The iPhone is not yet 20 years old.

Skateboarding taught me the power of perserverance, and muscle memory. That and Quake 3: Defrag trickjumping.
Llama2 was not released with 30B parameters, or was it?

Is watching a twitch stream a social activity? I guess you can participate in the chat, but we know what twitch chat looks like...
I've been playing games on Linux daily for years now (even AAA games like Cyberpunk 2077) and this is why I am still holding out on VR. I just don't want to be forced to go back to Windows just to play the games I want to play.

I'm waiting for Valve to maybe make a successor to Index with proper Linux support, but I'm not holding my breath.

> finite digital assets

That's a nice oxymoron you have there. Digital assets are not "finite" or scarce, that's their biggest strength: that they can be copied and shared infinitely. I know that some people hate that, and would love to change it (see DRM). But to hell with that.

Re:Ask HN: Any solo game developers here? on Monday March 13, 2023 @01:21PM (#35139006)
On the contrary, I would recommend everyone to try and make a game engine. Through my teens and university years I tried many types (3D, 2D, visual novel...) and it's an awesome learning experience. Of course, for a real project that you want to actually finish, that's a different story
Re:Meta Quest Pro on Tuesday October 11, 2022 @06:25PM (#33170055)
Does that mean I don't need to create an account if I want to use the headset only with OpenVR stuff?
Protective gear was always uncool in street skateboarding. Vert (Tony Hawk's main discipline) was the exception. From what I understand it's about being counterculture, punk etc. Today even bowl riders mostly don't wear helmets or pads, and crashing in a concrete bowl is arguably even worse than on a wooden ramp.
Re:Ask HN: How many computers you got? on Tuesday May 10, 2022 @12:28PM (#31329013)

I did some scripts for a NWN RP persistent world back when I was a teenager. Great memories

When my wife was staying home with our son until he was 3yo, I got to write that into my tax returns and I got a tax bonus. A not working wife + a child = I didn't pay any tax and even got some money back from the government.

I'm not sure how it would work if we were not married. Would probably involve some more bureaucracy.

An of course, as you say, it's easier to handle child bureaucracy when married.

First time I heard about this - I set up uBlock on my mom's Firefox years ago, and it's still there...
All games on gog.com are sold like this.

You mean the one from 1985 about those oldtimers bathing with lifegiving alien artifacts? Such memories! Also ofc I found it in one google search.
They probably mean upgrade on purchase
Looks like some gopro type actioncam with stabilization would work nicely. I made videos of hikes when I was on Azores a few years ago with an old GoPro 5 and they look pretty good, so newer hardware should make it even better.
Re:Diablo III coming May 15 on Thursday March 15, 2012 @10:54AM (#3708688)
This. I will not be buying this game, because I don't want to support this model.

Mine too. I really hope this type of funding will become more and more common in the entertainment industries.
Re:Reasons to install Sublime Text 2 on Thursday December 15, 2011 @10:59AM (#3356635)
Two of my colleagues are using Sublime, but I'm still not sure if I want to switch.

I didn't know it's also on Windows and Linux - if I would switch to it, I would need this, since I'm jumping between OSX/Ubuntu/Windows very often.

But one important thing for me in Eclipse is debugging. How does Sublime fare in this department? Can I run my django project in Sublime, set up breakpoints, etc? And generally manage the project itself?

What "gross feeling" are you talking about? But yes, browsers will benefit from this - providing that the technology will be implemented by all of them, not only Chrome.
Re:Open source music search/play app for all OSes on Monday October 10, 2011 @08:24AM (#3093460)
Very nice app, tried it out on Kubuntu 11.04 without problems. The streams run pretty fast for me, so that's a plus.

Hopefully you'll work a bit on the user interface, as others have mentioned. Good luck!
