Re:Show HN: New Sub-Reddit for Hardware Startups on Wednesday July 25, 2012 @02:15AM (#4289638)
This is a great idea. I grew up around fab-houses in China and I can say it definitely takes much more effort to even get a prototype down in the States. The cost of parts alone is ridiculous and probably off-putting to newcomers.

It's a real shame, since there's so much talent here that could be building amazing new hardware, but we end up just waiting for big companies like Google to tell us what the next platform will be.

I'll definitely be subscribing to this subr and coming to some meetups. Hell, we can organize bulk orders and get cheaper parts from China!

"So we decided that having the technology out of the way is much, much more compelling than immersive AR, at least at this time."

I'm not really convinced by this. "Out of the way" means you have to switch focus every time you want to see your information, and then switch back afterwards. To me, this seems even more distracting, albeit less prone to clutter.

Bridge was a lifesaver for the blimp project! Without it we would have had to drop $70 on a bluetooth module and send commands over a serial connection.

here's a video of our blimp: http://photos.zyron.me/Other/2012-04-29/22712358_zSZWhh#!i=1...

If anyone wants to know the answer to that question, Richard Feynman explains it wonderfully: (He starts talking about trees at 2:00, but his explanation of fire is equally elegant!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1pIYI5JQLE

My first instinct was to say that a tree's mass comes from dead stars. Imagining how it got from those stars to the air that eventually becomes the tree would keep you busy for a while :D

this isn't a concept - I got to play with the Fruit ninja demo as well as the point cloud when I interviewed there. It really is that fast.
