Most of the country agrees with what I said. Please seek alternate opinions from your bubble.
Why does the US have to offer jobs to the whole world? People flood US borders like it's a magnet sucking them in and cry when they can't stay. If it's so exploitive why don't people stay in their own country or go somewhere else?
Self defense is not murder.
The amount of coordination it takes to release these files, coupled with the incompetence of government.
The prosaic explanation is the more likely one, meaning the events are unrelated.
Galileo's heliocentric model
Hand washing prevents illness
COVID came from a lab, not a wet market
Hunter Biden laptop was real
And then a counter example of something broadly accepted but untrue. The humoral theory and blood letting, practiced for thousands of years. This is what killed George Washington.
People are asking why they would switch from zig to rust. I wonder the opposite: why would anyone would use zig?
It's not memory safe. Rust is. I'm curious why anyone would use it for a systems program, especially when AI can write it in rust instead with as much effort. Arguably it would do better with rust since LLMs are trained on more rust.
Isn't it? Look up the California high speed rail. There is massive corruption, incompetence, and red tape.
This argument always comes up. "Why not public transit? It's so efficient, look at country X". Well, country X has people who respect public property and are orderly, so they can have nice things.
The US is filled with people who don't. And who do drugs. And who rob. So people retreat to places like a Joby aircraft or self driving Waymo, which don't have those issues.
I made a comment that was down voted and flagged less than one second after I clicked add comment. How is that possible?
Trump is a disruptor. I am interested to see how this plays out and whether he replaces anyone. One thing I've learned since COVID is, unfortunately, to be more skeptical of medical authorities. We were lied to in so many ways and all the while forced to "trust the science" and so called experts. But they were caught either wrong or lying way too many times. So I am not going to assume outright all the people he fired are perfectly honest or unbiased scientists, and I hope Trump has a plan going forward. TDS is a thing, and anything he does is met with resistance. He could cure cancer and people would still be mad at him somehow.
> Maduro was president of a sovereign country.
Since 2013, Venezuela has been suffering a socioeconomic crisis under Maduro. He stole the last two elections and remained in power even though he had not legitimately won.
Numerous international bodies and human rights organizations have found that Nicolás Maduro and his government committed extensive human rights violations. These violations have been ongoing since at least 2014 as part of a systematic plan to repress dissent. State security forces and allied armed groups (colectivos) have been implicated in thousands of unlawful or politically motivated killings and arbitrary arrests of protesters, opposition leaders, and perceived critics.
Immediately after the latest presidential election, at least 24 people died as a result of the government’s repression of protests against the appointment of Nicolás Maduro. Most of these killings could amount to extrajudicial executions. Two of the victims were children.
I flagged those stories too, stalker. They result in uninteresting flamebait like your comment. Hacker News used to be better than this. It's turning into reddit.
Ironically, many of my comments were flagged and removed where I suggested the post was inappropriate. No tolerance for any dissenting views or discussion, unfortunately.
Agreed, Twitter suspended accounts for "misgendering" and sharing Hunter Biden laptop stories. It was a bubble that protected leftists.
X, however, is pro free speech. Everyone is platformed. Everyone can discuss. Everyone can debate. It is a bubble that protects free speech from censorship. The left struggles to understand it and retreats to bluesky.
If I understand correctly, you are saying he's a billionaire who doesn't care about me and he has a bad relationship with one of children, therefore I should think he is a Nazi, or at least view the gesture in the most unfavorable light possible. That he is actually a Nazi.
If anything, you seem more politically motivated than me. I am just stating things as I saw them. He'd have to be the dumbest person on earth to intentionally do a Nazi gesture on stage.
It's far more likely he did an awkward gesture due to his Asperger's. Plus he literally said "my heart goes out to you" as he did it. I've seen the video (I'm not actually in a bubble. Are you?).
I've also seen endless propaganda accusing trump of calling Nazis fine people. This is just the latest iteration of propaganda against people the left doesn't like. It's not convincing.
"murdered": someone interfering with law enforcement and threatening severe bodily harm or death with a 4000 lb SUV is met with lethal force by a person fearing for his life.
Not murdered: literally everyone else in the entire state
My priorities are many, one of which is free speech. Another of which is law enforcement and equality under the rule of law.
It's a shame she was killed but it's a dangerous game to threaten law enforcement like that. It's hardly ICE going out and randomly killing people as is being characterized.
What are your priorities? Defending people who abuse children and cross borders illegally? I assume it's not. So why not support ICE who is stopping that from happening?
Why would a Nazi go to Israel, meet with Netanyahu, visit Auschwitz and light a candle in solidarity, and generally support Jews? It makes no sense.
People just hate Elon and call everyone a Nazi. It is not an accusation that is taken seriously anymore.
It is a Rorschach test.
I see an awkward attempt of someone with Asperger's saying "my heart goes out to you", which is what he said while making the gesture.
You apparently saw a Nazi salute.
Given he has no other Nazi tendencies before or since, I did not see a Nazi salute.
In fact he visited Israel after Oct 7, a decidedly non-Nazi thing to do. Netanyahu himself praised Elon and said he is being smeared.

Pattern recognition - people who are on bsky are overly concerned with pronouns and extreme leftist ideology and/or extreme hate for trump. There is no actual discourse. Just a bubble where there is no tolerance for debate or difference of opinion.
He did not do a Nazi salute. That is propaganda from legacy media. He has never even said anything remotely Nazi-like. He is pro free speech, pro humanity, pro USA.
Twitter, before Elon, was the company that literally banned your account for sharing the hunter Biden laptop story. That story was purported to be a "conspiracy theory" but was actually true. And people were locked out of their account for sharing it. That is true fascism.
I noticed some topics and comments that were usually in violation of HN guidelines are no longer flagged, and discourse decays into reddit-like jabs and echo chambers. Only a small percent, but still, more than the previous 0% I was accustomed to.
Would be interesting to see how many comments violate the guidelines over time. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
That last chart showing the average comment length shows a clear negative downtrend, especially in recent months. I wonder why that is.
We got a nuclear deal Iran violated so badly that we had to take military action.
Getting builds to work was some of the most tedious, least interesting work. It is so satisfying to watch the agent try 4 different things and magically go on its way. No more makefile syntax searches or cmake hell.
I don't even know who that is
> is there any plan to do this differently to those expensive failures?
Why are you asking me? You can listen to the secretary of war (a veteran of those wars) and the president describe their strategy themselves. They are extremely transparent.
The implication being what? "What about Iran" as if I don't think killing schoolchildren is terrible and shouldn't happen?
You missed the entire point of my comment: to us it's a tragedy. To them it's a strategy. That's why we're bombing them in the first place. They are commiting genocide.
