Re:The AirPods Effect on Friday June 19, 2026 @04:50AM (#48596388)
Most headphones these days are also a headset, allowing for bi-directional communication. Does it make a difference?
Since when are we able to (correctly) record the temperature of the earth?
Re:DMARC required by Gmail and Yahoo from Feb 2024 on Friday January 12, 2024 @04:00PM (#38973997)
Yahoo cracked down on my wanted emails - they simply deleted my first 10 years of emails.
How is the difference between liquids and humidity detected?
No wonder their focus is solely on social media ignoring legacy media.
Re:Submarine Cable Map 2023 on Monday December 04, 2023 @09:20AM (#38517551)
I was looking for this as I was surprised that a map would be displayed the way it is in the shared link.

Maybe to avoid politics, the name of the region was used.
Re:Google Domains Is Gone on Monday September 11, 2023 @09:29AM (#37466979)
Even their own domains are abused by spammers heavily.
Re:Google Maps has become an eyesore on Friday August 11, 2023 @05:55AM (#37086886)
The reason I uninstalled google maps is because it would open in a random place not related to me (I live in Europe and it opens in Tucson,AZ,USA).

AppleMaps is a great map and even better for guiding directions, but their servers are extremely slow so it is very annoying to browse.

What you are describing is called choice.
Re:Akan Names on Sunday July 16, 2023 @04:08PM (#36750929)
In Indonesia, people name their children after the name of the months:

Is the video available without IP-restrictions?
Re: on Thursday June 22, 2023 @04:27AM (#36429405)
What is really disturbing for me is that authorities go after such rather well behaving protesters instead of terrorists in disguise as protesters.
Re:Himalayan glaciers may lose 75 percent of ice by 2100 on Tuesday June 20, 2023 @05:05AM (#36401453)
Switzerland has already lost much more.

Here is a video showing the growth and decline over time: https://vimeo.com/294517816

Android phone usually come with a walled garden, too.
Same situation with sports broadcasting rights.

Exclusivity does not serve the customer.

Re:Britain being forced to go cashless 'against its will' on Thursday March 31, 2022 @04:52AM (#30865158)
Cash is freedom and independence. Its not about convenience or struggles.
Re:Apple unveils contactless payments via Tap to Pay on iPhone on Tuesday February 08, 2022 @11:03AM (#30260049)
I think it only allows contactless payments. No matter if from a card or phone or whatever that is equipped with NFC payments that is compatible with the merchant app.
Re:How to Mislead with Facts on Wednesday February 02, 2022 @06:17AM (#30176126)
I have established a way of dealing with and taking from 'facts' by following these steps:

1. What is said? Do I understand it? Where does it come from?

2. How is it to be understood? How to interpret it?

3. What does it signify? Can it be classified and/or compared with other known things?

4. What can be taken from it? What implications does it have?

Looking at news in this way, it is clearly visible, how most things that are communicated answer 3. and 4., omitting its foundations 1. and 2. Sometimes the bias is created by changing 2.

(The fine-definition of the steps is still in the works. So far, I am very happy with this method. It helps me a lot to understand things and what things are really about. Suggestions?)

Re:Google is wrong. Apple’s iMessage is a failure on Thursday January 20, 2022 @09:53AM (#30009595)
Here in Europe, SMS used to be so expensive that nobody used them anymore when alternatives such as WhatsApp came up. In the meantime unlimited SMS are included in most contracts at no extra cost (or no choice) and still very few people use it anymore.
Re:Bitcoin mining is being banned in countries across the globe on Wednesday January 19, 2022 @05:13AM (#29991828)
I wasnt talking about the amount of effort (100% or sporadically) or the usefulness. Just simply what is done, on a more abstract level.

I do not remember that the people were asked about climate change.

Who decides what is good and what is bad for the state of the planet?

Re:No one died in China of Covid since April 15th 2020 on Wednesday January 19, 2022 @05:05AM (#29991783)
I trust you, but there is no data available or shared with WHO.
Wow, what a great comment. You just explained how the whole 'mass formation psychosis' was/is possible.
Re:DuckDuckGo Traffic on Monday January 10, 2022 @09:14AM (#29875069)
I can use DDG only for finding out the TLD for sites I forgot the actual address. To search the internet, I consider it rather useless.
At the same time, suicide attempts has increased fivefold for children.

Re:No one died in China of Covid since April 15th 2020 on Monday January 10, 2022 @09:02AM (#29874904)
No testing, no deaths attributed. Could not be easier.
Re:Oh, 2022 on Monday January 10, 2022 @08:59AM (#29874860)
I am definitely not worried about the consequences of climate change. I am ready to deal with it. What I am worried about are politicians forcing us to do things justified by climate change.
