Re:Ask HN: Engineering Job Market in Switzerland? on Wednesday January 19, 2022 @12:32PM (#29996821)
The job market is good. But raising a family in Switzerland is expensive. Day care may be hard to find and extremely expensive. Swiss don't have many children and often rely on grand parents for day care. Oh, and if your child was born after July 31st, she won't be able to go to school before she is 5 (at least in Geneva and Vaud cantons). On top of that, in some cantons at least, the tax system is almost punitive if the 2 parents work, even worst if one of the 2 works only few hours a week. Europe is already using something like 90% of our hydro electricity potential. So far, countries either: - added renewable energies on top of existing fossil fuel based power generation (gas, coal) - added renewable energies and replaced coal with gas (US for instance)

Making solar panels require massive amount of energy. If built in China, these panels are made with electricity from coal. They don't have a great C02 budget.
