Re:Lucasart's Afterlife on Thursday September 17, 2026 @05:28AM (#49738323)
Because of my poor English, I thought this post was about life at LucasArts after the sale. I was disappointed. I never had time to play LucasArts games: Leisure Suit Larry, Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals and similar games took up all my time.
I was honestly embarrassed to admit that I have no idea what I've been using on my Ubuntu server for the last 10 years. The way to find out if I'm using vi or vim is to enter command mode (by pressing “:”) and run “version” I'm using vim ;)
Re:The Overcomplexity of the Shadcn Radio Button on Tuesday January 20, 2026 @05:42AM (#46690379)
As I was reading this text, my hands started sweating, my head began to ache, and I felt the anguish and terror of reliving a traumatic experience all over again. I can’t even count how many times I’ve been stuck in a project that’s already behind schedule, where the client (I’m a freelancer, working directly with the person who has the requirement) throws in a ‘simple’ request like: change the style of that radio button so it matches this other one. The problem isn’t that—because of reasons like the ones explained in the article—I end up spending hours and hours on what looks like a trivial task. The real nightmare is when the client asks me: ‘Why are you taking so long to do something so dumb?’ It’s a nightmare. That’s why I ran away from React, because of this and countless similar situations, and went back to WordPress, where the world is so much simpler, the clients are happy, and so am I.
Furthermore, robotic exploration of Mars is already yielding sufficient evidence that Mars once had oceans. There is a well-founded suspicion that Europa and Titan have seas hidden beneath their surfaces. Does this article mean that all of this is just our imagination? I don't think so.
Re:A WebGL game where you deliver messages on a tiny planet on Sunday September 28, 2025 @06:41AM (#45403313)
Everyone is celebrating and praising this beautiful and well-crafted game, and here I am maliciously thinking that if this game were to come to Steam, some evil curator would say “Not recommended” followed by a nonsensical and absurd explanation.
Re:Fixing a Direct3D9 bug in Far Cry (2018) on Friday July 18, 2025 @06:39AM (#44603159)
The last image of this article shows the bug supposedly solved. But it does not show the same image with the bug. The images to show the bug are from different points of view, where it is difficult to appreciate the problem as the last image does.
After reading all these comments, I started to worry and even panic because it seemed to me that I was on the wrong side. HN, which side are we on?

You are going to say what the app is, right? right?
Re:Robinhood Crypto Gets Wells Notice from US SEC on Monday May 06, 2024 @01:19PM (#40276966)
I don't believe that at this point there are still people who have their cryptos with them. These people already have “most wanted” style documentaries and almost all cryptos forums have in their FAQs “Not your keys, not your coins" warnings.
Re:We are under DDoS attack and we do nothing on Saturday March 30, 2024 @07:37AM (#39873881)
Sir, I have my pompous site on linode and feel offended and hurt.
No, it's a text adventure, an RPG, online, in a browser.
Re:Why NASA Chose WordPress for Revamping Its Flagship Website on Saturday October 07, 2023 @08:26AM (#37801135)
No idea, but after 27 years of web developments (yes I started around 1996) I would choose Wordpress every day and twice on Sundays. I have used Drupal, Joomla and Codeigniter extensively, and yet my answer today is, Wordpress.
Well, we know this is not true. At least Armando Scannone had a team of 4 cooks to make and rehearse each and every one of the recipes in his famous cookbook [1]. Armando Scannone has a famous Venezuelan cookbook, it is the obligatory reference for those who want to make Venezuelan dishes. I have personally tried many of the dishes and the recipes are correct and the result is just as the book indicates.

Re:The Inventor of Magical Realism on Tuesday May 09, 2023 @08:48PM (#35882289)
In an interview, García Máquez, on reading the first sentence of The Metamorphosis, stopped reading and asked himself, is it possible to do this?
Re:Emacs in Odd Places (2020) on Tuesday April 04, 2023 @12:10PM (#35441893)
I think there is no problem using an editor like VisualCode or Notepad++. But you should have an editor like Emacs or in my case VI at hand. It is a lethal weapon to solve any problem in inhospitable environments where speed and power are required. I want to believe that VI or Emacs is like that gun that James Bond or Jim West has up his sleeve, and at the push of a button it deploys to your hand in case of emergency. Subtle, fast, and effective in emergencies.
Re:NetHack 3.6.7 on Friday February 17, 2023 @03:59AM (#34832452)
I must be some kind of medieval purist because today in the middle of 2023 I still play the original rogue, in its 3.6.3 and 5.4 versions, and I can barely tolerate some of the changes. That's what I don't like about Hack and its "new" incarnation, Nethack. Changes were introduced that change the original spirit. I also played Moria and Adom for years with mixed results. I was never able to play Nethack. I'm going to try, maybe this time I will succeed.
Re:Linode rebranded as Akamai’s cloud computing services on Wednesday February 15, 2023 @06:58AM (#34802652)

At least they put "love" and "developers" in the same sentence. I think they still love me.

Re:Gail.com FAQ on Monday January 09, 2023 @03:28AM (#34308059)
That is, this is someone who has a goose that lays golden eggs, and throws them away. It's such a cruel irony that it's almost a good joke.
I don't really know what has happened lately, but 20-25 years ago as a Sun vendor I was involved in or had knowledge of at least 10 large ERP projects, and in all of them SAP won. I don't have the details, but I got the feeling that all those customers discarded Oracle because it barely scored 2 or 3 points in the evaluation matrix. All of those SAP projects were a success. All of them.

Exactly, I was wondering what OP's motivation is for reminding us of this.

I don't want to say in the meantime, but, in the meantime, the pedophile ring that Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell served have not even been cited, ever.

I wonder how Jose Ortega(s) becomes Hikaru Sulu or Pavel Chekov.
That's a problem, because you can't have several standard, the idea behind standard is its uniqueness
Re:A text adventure game on TypeScript's type system on Thursday September 22, 2022 @06:16AM (#32936908)
I'm sorry which "What the fuck" are you referring to?

There were 2k clones of flappy bird within a month of its release. By now there must be at least a dozen programmers copying this idea (Twin-Calc) for other platforms, myself included.

Re:Tips for Developers Who Want to Build a SaaS Startup on Tuesday August 30, 2022 @06:19AM (#32648626)
Actually teracrawler.io and proxiesapi.com are build by the same person, same page design, same footer design (left column of topics, no privacy and terms policy pages), even is the same chat software with the same customer support operator picture.
Re:How to make Flappy Bird with C++ on Thursday August 25, 2022 @09:53AM (#32593735)
google flappy bird sprites

There are tons of sites with all type of sprites, opengameart.org, for example.
