Gotta do things that don't scale, chief. Granted, instead of just making some generic Show HN and posting to reddit, it could be a worthwhile to privately PM users who comment and seem quite interested.

You could also just go to some old posts (HN or reddit) that are relevant to your product and reach out to anyone who seems ideal customer.

It's easier said than done, but hey, now you (hopefully) have some initial users, all for $0.

Thank you friend! Should have provided some context ;)

Hey, it worked for Ed Bernays.
Re:U.S. Police Shootings: Breaking Down the Data by Race on Thursday May 28, 2020 @04:33PM (#23342200)
The real question is "why is that?". Do blacks tend to get into more altercations with police, is it systemic racism, both?

Without further investigation, this graph can bait people into jumping to misinformed conclusions.

Furthermore, the site states: > black Americans account for less than 13 percent of the population but they are shot and killed by the police at a rate that’s over twice as high as for white Americans.

Yet they also account for over 50% of crimes in the U.S [0]. Like I said, ask questions, don't just look at a graph and raise pitchforks.

[0]: https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2016/crime-in-the-u.s.-...

Never considered that. However, the question still remains: how did we get here and what caused this trend?
Re:Twitter tags Trump tweet with fact-checking warning on Tuesday May 26, 2020 @10:26PM (#23318778)
I find his Tweets entertaining and I get a good laugh out of them. As for the anti-white thing, I'm just making an observation about something I found interesting.

I legitimately want to know what's up with Twitter allowing these comments. I find it weird cause it'd go without saying that hating any other minority would land you a ban or suspension.

Re:Reading habits that changed my life on Tuesday May 26, 2020 @01:55PM (#23314306)
I'll second "take notes" and "paraphrase". My retention has drastically improved when I paraphrase a piece of text and then write it down.
I don't know, I think p2p is more a meme. Sure, it has its use cases but for "muh decentralization of authority", I don't think the future will consist of p2p tech. Just look at BitChute and Steemit.
Re:Sell Yourself, Sell Your Work on Wednesday May 20, 2020 @04:30PM (#23251405)
We're in a constant state of signalling. Think some book mentions that most of our actions are driven by our need to signal or convey something to parties.

So, I'd argue we are always "selling" ourselves in one way or another, both unconsciously and consciously.

Meh, nothing exciting.

Doom 2016 v Doom Eternal: same shit Valorant: it's in beta so I'll give it some slack but it's pretty boring Half Life: Alyx: a VR game. lol Valve. Much rather get a Source 2 update for CSGO

Atleast GTA V is free on the Epic store.

He was the best part of Vice along with other early members. They used to have AMAZING stories and documentaries during his time.

Afterwards, the company went straight to shit. Now, we're blessed with quality articles such as: 1)"Nintendo Switch's Joy-con Sync issue is Even worse if you put it in your butt" 2)"Three days of torture in a male chastity device" 3)"How to pick a chastity cage lock with a condom wrapper" 4)"Finally, a new emoji to mock men"

I will be celebrating when Vice (along with BuzzFeed and Vox) file for bankruptcy.

I wonder how things would be if Stage6 came out on top instead of YouTube.
> Glorified camwhore site Pretty much it, the jokes of Twitch being Chaturbate Lite are all too true. Worse is that they push the "Just Chatting" section too since they know it draws in a lot of viewers.
Re:92 of top 500 subreddits controlled by same 5 people on Thursday May 14, 2020 @04:38PM (#23185093)
Agreed, reddit is a goldmine for anecdata.
Re:92 of top 500 subreddits controlled by same 5 people on Wednesday May 13, 2020 @10:28PM (#23174560)
Oh yeah no doubt. they're informative, helpful, and good for legitimate discussion. It's just such a shame that the broader subs that aren't niche happen to be so toxic.
I know it's kind of a meme and hyperbolic to talk about the "commies at Google" but these circumstances are quite interesting.
Re:92 of top 500 subreddits controlled by same 5 people on Wednesday May 13, 2020 @09:58PM (#23174337)
Seriously, god forbid you have a different opinion otherwise you're instantly downvoted.
Re:92 of top 500 subreddits controlled by same 5 people on Wednesday May 13, 2020 @09:49PM (#23174272)
Such a cringe website; like ResetEra for the masses. There are probably only a handful of subreddits that are alright i.e. not full of living bots.

Everything else is just groupthink and tribalism, just look at r/politics or r/news. What's worse is that even neutral subreddits like r/gaming are prone to the mods a.k.a janitors being pissy and deleting anything that doesn't conform to the status quo (looking at you r/TheLastofUs).

And surprise surprise, the post got removed. xd

One thing I don't understand with these "fake markets" (ride-sharing and food delivery) is what's the end game? It seems like there is no path to profitability.
Re:Stop trying to make hard work easy on Wednesday May 13, 2020 @03:38PM (#23170873)
So do "Deep Work"? Kind of what it sounds like based on what you've outlined
Re:A first look at Unreal Engine 5 on Wednesday May 13, 2020 @03:23PM (#23170700)
I really liked the fluid simulations. It's always been something hard to get right in games. Albeit, it did look pretty janky in the demo but I hope we can get some quality fluid simulations in games soon.
Re:Godot 4.0 will get a new lightmapper on Saturday May 09, 2020 @07:35PM (#23129113)
+1 for reference
Is that "name" legitimately on the birth certificate or is he just memeing?
Re:Ask HN: How to get good at social media? on Tuesday April 21, 2020 @04:18PM (#22938913)
+1 for Jonny Giger mention. That guy is awesome.
Re:Privacy Not Included on Friday April 17, 2020 @07:44PM (#22904057)
There's some potential here. Not every Joe Shmoe knows or even cares about privacy so dumbing it down to "Product A: Good" and "Product B: Bad" is a start at least.
