Or, theres the option of a 32gb v100 (about $600USD on taobao etc), where you can get 1200 of prefill at 80 of decode: https://github.com/geoffwatts/ninfer-v100 - that's _really_ cheap inference, and it's not a modified card - you just need to add a blower or water block.
Re:Air Con: $1697 for an on/off switch on Thursday August 29, 2024 @09:18AM (#41390509)
You're right! The serial bus isn't encrypted!

I got inspired, and have plugged in my scope, and then an RS422 to serial adapter, and I'm getting XML encoded (weird) CAN messages, which I presume are the same as what's on the CAN bus exposed on some of the control box's ports. I'll get out the can analyser tomorrow and check.

Now the trick will be to reverse engineer this protocol. Here's a tiny sample:

  <U>setCAN 0201000000236000000000000 </U=ce><U>getCAN 1 </U=00><U>Ping</U=db> <U>ackCAN 1</U=aa><U>Ping</U=db> <U>setCAN </U=b2><U>getCAN 1 </U=00><U>Ping</U=db> <U>ackCAN 1</U=aa><U>Ping</U=db> <U>setCAN </U=b2><U>getCAN 1 </U=00><U>Ping</U=db> <U>ackCAN 1</U=aa><U>Ping</U=db> <U>setCAN </U=b2><U>getCAN 1 </U=00><U>Ping</U=db> <U>ackCAN 1</U=aa><U>Ping</U=db> <U>setCAN </U=b2><U>getCAN 1 </U=00><U>Ping</U=db> <U>ackCAN 1</U=aa><U>Ping</U=db>

Not always - if it's used as a bus, it's 2 wire.
Re:Air Con: $1697 for an on/off switch on Thursday August 29, 2024 @07:26AM (#41389668)
I have something slightly different

1 is RS422 B

2 is RS422 A

3 & 5 - GND

4 & 6 - VCC

Not sure what 7 and 8 do.

Re:Air Con: $1697 for an on/off switch on Thursday August 29, 2024 @04:05AM (#41388450)
Interesting! Yours is a different rev to mine, and a different chip. Can you post photos of both sides please?
Re:Air Con: $1697 for an on/off switch on Thursday August 29, 2024 @02:30AM (#41387940)
No, sorry - I may be able to buzz one out of the a/c controller later on.

I do, have 2 spare USB-C to JST-SH adapters that suit the round advantage air circuit board if anyone wants one (Perth, Free). Email in profile.

It's an FT312D, which is a purpose-built android thingy that presents a serial port and allows the tablet to charge.

Speaking of sandgropers, I do understand Advantage Air are based in WA - so it's fairly likely they're reading this!
Re:Air Con: $1697 for an on/off switch on Thursday August 29, 2024 @12:06AM (#41387202)
It 100% is designed so that you have to use their hardware.
Re:Air Con: $1697 for an on/off switch on Wednesday August 28, 2024 @11:56PM (#41387144)
Oh, and you just need one of these and a TTL to RS422 converter off aliexpress to replicate the interface:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005918675239.html

The connectors on the small RJ45 daughter board are JST-SH 1.0

The yellow lead puts out 4.2v to replicate a Li-Ion battery (as far as I can tell). You can ignore this.

Red is positive

Black is negative

Green is usb d+

Blue is usb d-

Incidentally, if you root your tablet you can just change the build.MODEL to "MyAir5" and everything will work on a third party tablet.
Re:Air Con: $1697 for an on/off switch on Wednesday August 28, 2024 @11:51PM (#41387108)
OMFG; I am in Perth, I have the same system, the very same problem and solved it almost the same way and was in the process of writing it up.

The system uses RS422, with a base64 encoded AES key in the aaservice binary, and I was contemplating building an esp32 based open source implementation of the controller.

That's a crazy weird coincidence.

Re:Deepstream 5.0: Resurrected using MIT license on Sunday October 27, 2019 @08:09PM (#21373346)
The UI looks incredible - was it closed source, and did it die with the company?
I think it's probably a great way to understand the culture of the hiring organisation and to see if your approach would work with theirs.

It'll probably be relatively unsuccessful at a bigger company with worse internal comms, with an HR function that's too far removed from the engineering team.

I'm sure you'll find a job that suits _you_ with this approach, though.

Re:Steve Yegge Quits, Saying Google Is 100% Competitor Focused on Wednesday January 24, 2018 @05:31PM (#16226978)
Grab must have absolutely incredible internal comms and leadership.
Re:Twitter Reports Weak Earnings and the Stock Is Crashing on Tuesday April 28, 2015 @06:46PM (#9455558)
I bet the mood there is REALLY sombre.

Leak or not, missing earnings is a career limiting move for management. And it was a HUGE market reaction for an earnings miss, kinda implies that the market isn't convinced by the fundamentals of the stock.

Ouch!

Re:Let the Other 95% of Great Programmers In on Friday December 26, 2014 @11:48PM (#8801727)
I wonder if it's as simple as population ratios for programming talent.

Kenyan (distance) and Jamaican (sprinters) runners offer a counterpoint here, the world's best are all from tiny regions, in fact, some are from the same family, and most all train together.

It's unusual to see a coherent, from-first-principles explanation of a neural network. Especially one that's commercially valuable (i presume) to Totems.

Mildly alarmed to learn I'm only .039 probability male, though - better bloke it up on Instagram.

Data science, devops, engineering. Python & Javascript primarily, hiring 3 engineers today.

I'm the technical cofounder, and I've never worked with a smarter group of people in one place. It's a great team, doing important things for the fourth biggest industry in the world (fashion), helping them reduce waste and be more efficient.

We have a beautiful webapp, used every day by hundreds of people at ASOS, Gilt Groupe, Target, Gap and more.

Re:The Creator of 'Doom' Is Now A Facebook Employee on Tuesday March 25, 2014 @08:42PM (#7470609)
It's pretty much inconceivable that he'd have a "standard options package"

He would have been courted, offered a substantial slice of equity, and his contribution and membership of the leadership team (he's the CTO!) would have significantly contributed to the valuation.

He'd have made out huge-time.

Re:The Most Powerful Sales Tool at Lowe's: Satellites on Wednesday March 05, 2014 @05:51PM (#7350541)
I don't understand why they don't correlate EPOS, door and aisle counters, put it in their data warehouse, and have precise close rate based on 1) visits 2) store departments

I'd have thought this was totally standard practice!

Still though, really cool that they have confidence that satellite imagery is a good proxy for this.

It's their duty to, though I think I understand.

I've taken some (calculated) risks quickly so as to avoid hand-wringing over details. Not so big as understanding if I'm personally liable for something, but I could easily believe people building a fast growing startup would.

London (Old St Roundabout) - EDITD

http://editd.com/jobs/engineering/

Data science, devops, engineering. Hiring at least 4 engineers, and sales people in NY and London now.

We're one of the hottest startups in London (says the Guardian, top 20!). Last month, we had a new engineer join from HN, and the calibre of people coming to us from HN is just absolutely incredible.

I'm the technical cofounder, and I've never worked with a smarter group of people in one place - our team is just outstanding.

About us - we're doing the most important thing for the fashion industry possible, helping them reduce waste and make more money. Our customers are ASOS, Gap, Target, Missguided and tons of others - we're working with most of the fastest growing fashion companies in the world.

Record companies, movie studios and even automotive companies are all hits-based businesses, much like games studios. There's no fundamental reason you can't build a sustainable business around this model.

I think you missed a subtlety of nprogress, where it never fills the last 10 (or so) pixels unless complete is fired, presumably so that it doesn't make you think loading is finished until it's really, really finished.
One difference from yesterday's example is that it will get to 100% without 'complete' firing.

Yeah, someone from Apple emailed me and asked me to - so I did.
