News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

grooot

I’m confident that it’s closed because they claimed to have closed it.

As for the high protection mode - of course that reduces the attack surface.

No. I’m saying your information is outdated and wrong.
It was before the zero day was closed.
Frankly this is absurd.

Did you know that the file system of your computer contains your personal data, including files you save?

EDIT: No, that’s not what exfiltration means. You are simply misusing the word.

Do you seriously believe that your IP is private?

Do you know every site that has received your ip address?

I think the honest answer to both of these questions has to be no.

Sure but as has been pointed out, the likely explanation is that this is a function being performed locally for indexing or thumb nail generation.

Nobody has come close to showing anything malicious or that data is being exfiltrated, so why is this a problem?

Is your claim that data is being exfiltrated to Apple?
What are you talking about? It sounds like you don’t understand what is going on here. Perhaps you think some data is going to Apple?

That doesn’t prove they weren’t just image building. It proves they chose it as a topic to build an image around earlier than Gates.
There is absolutely nothing malicious that has been shown.
Isn’t this just URL prefetching extended to QR codes?

I don’t see what the fuss is about, unless there is some innuendo that data is being sent to Apple.

Which smart watch was made by people exploited to the brink of death? How is that different from the device you are writing your comment from?

Yes - it’s called the tragedy of the commons.

Trying to shame people into using less never solves this problem. It just means there is more available for the shameless. The solution as are either to regulate the commons, or find a better way to meet our needs.

> he only tried to join in on climate change way after it was politically convenient and he was trying to build his image

Who can you say this is not true about?

Do you really believe that his home is imminently about to be swallowed by the ocean?

Nailed it. We build the things, and it turns out they aren’t cool.
It sounds as if you’ve had to maintain a bad codebase in Python. I don’t think any language will save you from that. OCaml (a contender for my favorite language) certainly won’t. My comment is about what the language does for me when I write my own code.

I was happier when the internet was simpler because I was excited about all the cool things we could build to make almost every aspect of life better!

Obvious that was a delusion.

As someone new to python, I don’t understand this attitude.

I have decades of experience, having shipped code in swift, obj-c, Java, Scala, closure, ocaml, C, C++.

A few weeks ago I was asked to write something substantial in python. I have used python in the past for scripts of < 10 lines, so the syntax is not alien.

I have been extremely impressed by the experience. Async code just works and is very efficient. The match statement is very nice. Interacting with the OS is intuitive and well supported. I’m hard pressed to think of a language that would be more concise for what I’m doing.

I’ve had the same experience with JS recently too. It’s a good language now, and it decidedly wasn’t prior to ES6.

If I wind back 10 years or 20 years, there is just no way the languages as they were as capable as they are now. I can do much more with much less code.

The languages may be more complex, but they enable my code to be less complicated, and me to get more done.
