update: idk how I have positive points on my comment above

I wouldn’t make one like it again. simply because I really have no clue how long the author thought about their project

hell, another front page Show HN has a single commit

4y5k, have some self-respect. you could have cooked on this for a little bit longer than: yesterday. there is one commit! this is ... quite possibly, but I'm unsure, the first "show hn" with a single commit, lol
no one can view old.reddit.com w/o being authorized. idk if you're aware, but it lost a lot of appeal as such. what i'm saying is, folks can view reddit.com w/o logging in, but not old.reddit.com
Re:Shitter – A Nitter Fork on Friday October 23, 2026 @09:28AM (#50208668)
see: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49571634 "Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns"

many working instances right now: https://codeberg.org/shitter/shitter/wiki/Instances

while this points it out, i'll show you what I had in place:

~/.codex/config.toml

    [features]
    daemon_auto_start = false
hell, I also have this redundancy configured in bash:

    codex() {
      command codex --no-daemon "${@:-.}"
    }

You can watch some English subtitled rips here:

https://archive.org/details/takeshis-castle-with-english-sub...

The other archive link shared here, it's to another set of rips that appear to lack subtitles.

Re:Theranos.World on Thursday October 08, 2026 @05:04PM (#50012259)
This is inspired by jmail.world, which may have been inspired itself.

It is obviously not as interesting as jmail.world, but, give her time

Re:The cost of lies: A Mineserver story on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @09:43AM (#49992785)
Yeah, that's what started the speculation though. I grabbed the obit link from that discussion. The person who posted it, that's the only post they've made.

He may be resting in peace, but I don't really know

Re:The cost of lies: A Mineserver story on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @12:41AM (#49988258)
It would be an amusing troll. I wonder what minimum efforts are to publish here: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/name/mark-stephens-obit...
Re:Making a GTK application in Haskell, part 1 on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @03:32PM (#49982936)
I did leave out the disclaimer. we can't please everyone can we

with segments of code, I'll read it w/o syntax highlighting. i'll even think of the people who prefer it that way all the time

Re:Making a GTK application in Haskell, part 1 on Monday October 05, 2026 @02:31PM (#49968628)
desktop and mobile browsers have a reader mode icon you can click. it is useful for 1) this 2) website blocking fully loaded content with some paywall popup 3) and more!

click it for a better time

Re:FTL: A new operating system for clouds on Saturday October 03, 2026 @02:06PM (#49946390)
thanks to your comment we all understood that you got it though, which is the point!

also, thanks to your comment, unaware folks will probably figure it out, which is the subtler point!

Re:Tcl/Tk 9.1 Released on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @06:12PM (#49901463)
if anyone was curious! "soft spot" has an Indian English "soft corner", so says website dot com
Re:Two Git ignore files nobody told me about on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @10:28AM (#49816753)
this was probably discovered by many when seeking how to globally ignore agent configs, until perhaps they decided they'd like to start committing agent configs. though that's just a `git add -f`
Re:ZuckOff Know when a camera is in the room on Monday September 21, 2026 @09:40AM (#49787167)
"even worse", I searched "nearby glasses" on app store, and it's 2nd, under the ad sponsored "ZuckOff"

and so I leave this comment as off topic, but, is it pretty easy to get your new app to appear in that ad slot, above the main contender?

Re:Rat and Mouse Gazette: Nursing Care (1996) on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @03:06PM (#49717268)
Fine but, probably post the burrito-for-rats next time

https://www.rmca.org/Articles/recipes1.htm

as the other comment said, you can put in user.js but more specifically, that goes in the root of wherever your profile is. for me, that is:

    /home/<user>/.mozilla/firefox/<name>/user.js
this file doesn't exist by default, there's caveats with how it is overwritten, etc. i don't know much
Re:DeepSeek Harness on Monday August 24, 2026 @04:23PM (#49425367)
I didn't wanna press, but ... seeing "Responsible bot." on a ~10 month old account, it is a different signal lol

Only reason I said anything at all.

Re:DeepSeek Harness on Thursday August 13, 2026 @04:30PM (#49291446)
why advertise your account as a bot? idgi

    about: Responsible bot.
Re:A shell exclamation mark is not for yelling. Be lazy. on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @04:08AM (#49269218)
i love the mkdir example, so i’m going to exercise that muscle and see where it goes

and yeah ^r works, though i still type a few chars and ^p till i get the match. history-search-backwards in your inputrc, iirc

I like to think this'll be around forever

https://discworld.starturtle.net/lpc/

I love userscripts. Aren't we all using https://github.com/violentmonkey/violentmonkey now though?

thought I realize "if it works it works", https://github.com/Tampermonkey/tampermonkey

Re:Hologram works. Elixir runs in the browser on Thursday July 23, 2026 @01:14PM (#49025002)
that's fair. probably i attached more weight to the opening line: "We're in an interesting time where my framework/stack choice is now much less dictated by existing engineer expertise and more about fundamental capabilities in the framework and stack themselves."

assuming author wouldn't choose X _just because_ it is the new hotness

Re:Hologram works. Elixir runs in the browser on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @04:13PM (#49012728)
right, you're using the tool for the job. author was reaching for reliability, re: OTP/beam. now we don't know if they actually needed it, but, you're saying the same thing to me
Re:Judge a book by its first pages on Saturday July 18, 2026 @06:21PM (#48963041)
maybe it is mostly books, but the first one it served me was a /r/aita post

https://uncovered.ink/?b=9781538704448

they're right, we're wrong. look, if you got XXXL shorts on a medium waist and tie an _excellent_ standard knot, and you are very active for a while? those shorts are gonna loosen up for sure

this knot rules, i'm glad i went back and tried it :)

I got through an entire day yesterday in massively oversized gym shorts, by simply forming a standard loop, and wrapping it _twice_. That extra friction (the second wrap) has worked for years on shoes, boots, and, very large shorts

I will not be learning a fancy knot because I have no need

Re:1k Words: A Writing Contest on Monday July 06, 2026 @12:27PM (#48806904)
fwiw, this entire thread exists because of the ignored [2] in the link.

[2] Write 1,000 words about it by August 31st, 2026.

this is 1 of the two constraints. you may have to rework sentences. the skills exercised are these efforts
