Jenga effectively. 3 others and Bob spent time destabilizing but Bob over here pulled the block before it collapsed. It's his fault.

Did people think it would just keep going up?
The ask was about malware. So the computer is the hostage... so probably ??
This and yes also excessive refactor (I'm guilty).

One case I recall was an SRE that was quite intelligent asking smart questions and management took it as insubordination. The thing is he was fighting against shipping crap that later would ruin oncall.

Another time a coworker solved a big problem, saving time. But because management was not too involved, she got a pip.

One would assume making the system more reliable would get rewarded, in some contexts this is true. Others, it has to be blessed otherwise it can cut against.

I work with 30hz and cannot tell the difference. Mind it's mostly iTerm work.

Windows NT in 1994 holds a special place in my heart. Such pure computing. Makes me happy to see this project and hope it does great.
I actually have seen good coworkers get chopped down because they cared more about the system than others egos. It saddens me when management supports egos more than the product. It shows up years later to the customers.

Airpod cases are horrible. Best wrapped a rubbery non-slip case

I loathe mobile first design, seems to me it's "mobile matters, on other devices just deal with it.".

The Wells Fargo website screams this for me - it used to be dense and packed with info, now it's got large elements and wasted space.

ah. No idea.
The book "Never split the difference" is a great read on hostage negotiations.
The failure IMO is trusting anything that has not proven itself first with a year or three of experience.

US privacy laws - has anyone gone to jail or massive impacting fines for violations?

I joked to wife about paying for Facebook in 2011.

Monopolies suck.

Performance review 2025: yes

Refresher: a few lambos annual raise, small town as a bonus, larger town in RSUs

Re:My static site was serving my internal docs on Thursday October 15, 2026 @08:32PM (#50112199)
you mentioned the second use case.

My comment was regarding separation of concerns.

Copy out the hosted content to /var/www or somewhere else outside of git, separated from the repo.

there we go - thank you.
I got their blood pressure cuff for a couple years ago. I declined the setup and BT sync, partly from privacy, partly from apathy of "when will it break".

The cuff works well, I enter the numbers manually, no failures so far.

Oh they know I am certain. For these sites it's a game of reload and go into airplane mode before too much crap loads.
Re:Amazon pushes up prices across the Internet on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @05:41PM (#50095753)
i'm the 10th person, we don't stay for returns. However, I am doing a lot more shopping on different websites nowadays as I see Amazon is the most expensive option.
And it pays well too.

What about have the output directory outside the repo?
We know the solution to the decline of journalistic integrity but it's hostile to profits.
Especially those "one package wonder" ISO vendors, $20 is steep.
The developers do care, but we are judged on other metrics, and sometimes working crap code meets the need. Caring takes time we sometime don't want to give up from family or life. So crap we ship.
