Hay here it is: The idiot of the day award. Go move to russia. Hopefully we will send back their millions of "proud" migrants that are swarming Europe still.
This whole thing started because of some power pylons got destroyed and electricity was not restored for about a year right?
Best solution is to never use any of those useless apps ever again.
Best move you could have possibly done.
Re:Fastmail offers EU data region on Saturday August 08, 2026 @06:24PM (#49226467)
Your reply is dishonest. I obviously couldn't replicate the entire article, but I'm assuming everyone that reads my comment also has read the article. And so you know very well what I meant.

If you advertise foolproof safes, but they end up not in fact being exactly that very thing you advertised then I'm sure you will have a great reason as to why actually your 'foolproof' safe can not be foolproof and you never guaranteed such a thing in your tos.

But at the end of the day, you promised foolproof safes, and you did not deliver.

Your argument is "well if you leave the lock open then...". And the reply to that argument is that "yes, we all know". The fact that I the user can make a mistake, does not excuse the company from saying "well, anyway, he would have made a mistake anyway so why bother"

Re:Fastmail offers EU data region on Saturday August 08, 2026 @02:35PM (#49224544)
The article states that they do not offer any guarantee that my data will stay in the EU!

I feel that that's the whole point. And the whole point of them making this article/advertisement.

Re:An all-sky map of half a million supermassive black holes on Saturday August 08, 2026 @09:33AM (#49221717)
Neither is 'fascism' or 'rip tides'! Some of us find the beauty and power of nature awe-inspiring, regardless of our day-to-day problems.

Exactly. "We did ruing the only planet we ever knew, but at least for a brief moment in time we made a lot of value for Musk and his friends"
A fully agentified economy. I'm sure some tech-overlord will love the idea. Let's hope they don't frequent HN.
Scary as well though. All those cosmic powers, and here we are, not even ants standing on a hilltop.
If we all die, whom will they charge 100 Euros per 1M tokens I wonder. True dilemma right here.
> "We welcome RWE's agreement and voluntary investment in projects that strengthen our nation's energy security,".

We do live in a dystopia don't we?

My reasoning is that you cannot save the environment by regulating and degrading human life. It's like claiming that you will cure someone by killing him, technically correct... but the kind of correct that works on a weird leftist brain only.

The upper class are living lives so lavish, the emperors of Rome could have never dreamed off. We should change companies like Nestle, every single non-European company, data center companies, etc. from destroying our environment for profits. We should regulate the usage of jets and airplanes (for everyone, not just poor/middle class). What we should not do is say stupid stuff like cow-farts are destroying the environment and you need to eat bugs, or forced through digital currencies and social credit systems to only be able to go wherever the government tells you you can go. This is not even remotely near the realm of 'conspiracy theory', it's a reality for china/russia, and seriously studied by the EU, and even tentatively tried in the UK.

You can flag it. But you are still stupid. A mentally deranged leftist (the adjective was not needed, you all are) thinking that the 'new frontier' is making meat illegal should be made fun off. How about the next frontier... not allowing poor people to travel or move more than 15 minutes away from their registered address!
Ok, then how about we hit you in the knee right before a 100m sprint, and once you lose we can talk about your 'lack of ambition'. No, regular people have plenty of ambition, and the fake chinese papers and patents that get deleted as garbage every 5 years that ieee cleans them up are not 'innovation'--there's a reason their main survival strategy is copy Western technology and resell it at a cheaper price thanks to slave labour. There is no one truly more innovative that us and has never been.
The only thing that I'll agree with you is that European politicians are worse than having a literal random number generator making decisions. And no, we all appreciate the fact that Europe has the highest living standards to ever exist in the planet. We don't have them thanks to political parties though. We have them thanks to our ingenuity and quality of character.

I don't want to become china obviously, I love the environment especially in my village. But the 'green' craze is not it. It's just a scam to extract even more money that will go to friends and family of the various parasites we have as leaders. We were and still are the best in nuclear energy, we have infinite amounts of fossil fuels, and Europe contributes almost nothing to global warming, even if we removed the entire continent then the amount of air/sea pollution would drop by no more than 2%. And crippling our feat because the sheep fell for one more 'global warming' scam is not something I'm OK with.

For 40 years now we have increasingly richer wolves screaming global warming will kill us all in a year (while they fly on private jets to buy a coffee and have 9 seaside villas each) and increasingly more stupid sheep that enable them (and are poorer and more sad every single year). The temperatures are normal, that's how it has always been. And if they are not, me destroying the economy and civilization of my country is not going to stop that. You can try and gather cow farts though. I'm sure that will 'save' the environment.

Breaking news: "Wind and solar overtake fossil fuels in <insert_European_country> for the first time" for the 10th time this year.

Also on other unrelated news German economy is rocketing to the bottom, their industry is dying with thousands of layoffs, closing factories, and complains on energy prices and they can't even maintain their rail and road networks for the first time since forever. The signs of decline are not even signs anymore they are bright neon signs. But at least we are taxing cows farting. While china is steamrolling ahead and we are regulated to death by bureaucrats.

So then... the average CEO's behaviour?

I was kind of excited but then the "made with Claude" ruined it. I wanted to study your code but there's little point in studying LLM code for me. Same as looking at LLM art.
Yeah, not thanks. A company being kept alive by the US government is not one I'll ever trust with my life.
I think there is a saying about having a million monkeys with typewriters... or something of that sort.
The problem is that police misuse every single power they have been given and public trust is very low for years now.

I do not want to live in a world where random drones/cameras control my every move, and if your response to that is "I don't understand the problem" then we cannot live in the same society. It has been proven for thousands of years now that more laws do not fix society, and especially the problems we have now. Usually the laws increase in size and absurdity proportionally to how close said society is to its fall. Yet people never learn, and we just add one more line to the list.

Yeah man, like ... the EU just wants to control what you say, where you go, what you buy, while themselves are one of the most corrupt organization in the history of Europe, why don't people love them is beyond me.

I think you are confusing what a private citizen is. Focus on the word 'private'. Ursula should know NOTHING about me. I should know everything about Ursula, she lives on MY dime.

I think this should go one step further. If you don't praise the magnificence of your local EU politicians then your car's breaks will stop working and an electric shot will be administered to everyone presently in the car. That will satisfy EU-rocrats.

The coming revolution will be well deserved I think.

In the list of people that are worried about children.... the government is at the very end.
I agree with you somewhat, and I like what is described in the article. But I also feel like we are diluting the meaning of the word to make things sound better. Lossy/Lossless is inherently binary, and it carries a specific meaning. It would not detract from the work at all if it was described differently.

You can't be a little bit on fire :)

That's why our relationship is ending.
Re:Google loses fight over record $4.7B EU antitrust fine on Thursday July 02, 2026 @10:28AM (#48762160)
Unbelievable. Heading towards a dystopia at full speed.
Re:Google loses fight over record $4.7B EU antitrust fine on Thursday July 02, 2026 @10:26AM (#48762124)
Could this be some sort of """legalized""" corruption? Because the profits Google makes by very consciously and very deliberately doing what it is doing amount to many billions of dollars. And they are obviously not going to stop, while on the meantime we get one of these articles almost every year.

So then the EU signals how "tough" they are... Google pays for the cost of doing business in the EU... little people like us think that "we are fighting the big bad corporation", and all is good for one more year.
