Re:The Raspberry Pi Interactive Timeline · 2006–2026 on Friday September 04, 2026 @07:58AM (#49563384)
My PC runs Linux now because I bought the Raspberry Pi back in 2012, and I'm very grateful for that.
Re:Ask HN: Remember Fidonet? on Tuesday March 10, 2026 @08:35AM (#47322397)
It was really popular in Ukraine in the late '90s, before Internet became widely available. [Former point of 2:4614/1]
Re:MacBook Neo on Thursday March 05, 2026 @09:23AM (#47261823)
No idea. Maybe Lenovo includes purchasing power in the price calculation for some reason, such as making more money in the U.S. while gaining market share here in Czechia, where purchasing power is lower. Apple may be able to afford not to do that.
Re:MacBook Neo on Wednesday March 04, 2026 @10:29AM (#47248934)
The Acers of the world can sleep well. The price of Neo in my country is about $810. Two months ago I purchased a brand new Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 with an AMD 7533HS CPU, 14" OLED display, 32 GB DDR5 and 1 TB SSD for about $860. And it also has an unibody metal case. This Lenovo offers much better value for almost the same price, and you can install Linux on it.

It's good to know that at least some people in the US tech industry have integrity.
Re:New Pebble Device on Wednesday December 10, 2025 @10:11AM (#46218559)
For all those people complaining about it being e-waste: With such a relatively long battery life, you will probably lose/misplace the charging cable anyway, and that cable is probably more e-waste than the ring itself.

MC is a great file manager, but Far2l is even better.
Re:How the Slavic Migration Reshaped Central and Eastern Europe on Monday September 08, 2025 @04:28AM (#45165899)
Sorry, but this joke is stupid.
This is largely due to the Model Y refresh. March numbers are pretty strong, even in Europe. Not that I support his behavior, especially his position on Ukraine, but facts are facts.
Re:US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s on Sunday March 09, 2025 @02:49PM (#43312345)
Giving Ukraine all the weapons it needed and asked for, instead of destroying them soon, would be a good start. Also, you know, not forbidding Ukraine to use its long-range drones to damage Russia's oil industry would also be helpful. This is to get started. I can continue.

It worked, but this reply is pretty Basic
Re:We're bringing Pebble back on Wednesday January 29, 2025 @06:00AM (#42863637)
Yes, it can, and pretty well. In fact, it's my favorite feature and the reason I still wear my Pebble 24 hours a day - reliable alarms and notifications.
Re:We're bringing Pebble back on Tuesday January 28, 2025 @04:56AM (#42850633)
Such great news. I still wear the OG Kickastarter Edition every day, years after the battery on my 2nd Pebble, the Time, died. I even still sync my old iPad to it to at least keep the time in sync.
Re:Bringing Back the Turboc Colorscheme on Monday October 07, 2024 @04:31AM (#41763909)
This reminded me of the days when I was learning to program in Turbo Pascal, which used the UI of Borland's Turbo Vision (1) framework.

[1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo_Vision

This is a body on frame(!) weighing 2.1 tonnes! That's too much for a two-seater, Tesla Model Y weighs less.
It may be a good resource, but as someone living in the EU, I am "protected" from using all the shiny new AI tools to increase my productivity. And then they wonder why the EU is so behind in innovation and startups.
Re:Tesla FSD Timeline on Wednesday December 13, 2023 @07:01AM (#38626107)
So what? It's a complex problem, and they're making progress. Why is it always only Tesla that has to be held accountable for all promises? Other companies often promise great things (with deadlines!), don't keep their promises, but for some strange reason no one cares.
Re:Investors conclude that Tesla is a carmaker, not a tech firm on Thursday January 05, 2023 @10:44AM (#34261317)
Every time there is an article about Tesla, the vast majority of comments here are either too critical, too ignorant, or just FUD. It's too unbalanced, no other company (good or bad) gets such bad treatment here. I see many of the HN audience here are just repeating the media narrative without their own experience or even trying to understand the topic. Yes, Tesla is moving at the forefront of EV development, and yes, sometimes not everything is delivered as promised or on time. But on the other hand, this is HN, we're supposed to love new technology and engineering! Why so negative? It's pathetic.
Well, 1000-1400 ppm is my typical level in the room 5 hours after the last airing. Just before morning in the bedroom it can go up to 2500 with all the interior doors open.
I'm using a relatively cheap (68EUR) TFA Dostmann AirControl Mini CO2 Meter (also available from different brands as well) based on ZyAura platform. I soldered a connector to connect it to an ESP8266 board flashed with ESPHome software [1] and then send measurements to the Home Assistant instance.

This system works well, the sensor is on my desk, the CO2 drops quickly below 600 ppm when the window is open, but then immediately returns to above 800 ppm shortly after the window is closed. For example, I currently have 982 ppm.

At night, with 2 people sleeping in the room, the level often rises to 2500 ppm. So even though I ventilate the house much more often than I did before I bought the sensor, it's still not enough to maintain healthy CO2 levels, and with the current energy prices and cold weather, I don't know what else I can do, I have no space to install heat recovery ventilation.

Re:Migrating from Vue 2 to Svelte on Friday December 02, 2022 @09:24AM (#33830748)
Maybe not as actively and fast as I'd like, but v1 is stable enough to meet my needs, I really like this framework.
Re:Migrating from Vue 2 to Svelte on Friday December 02, 2022 @03:53AM (#33828287)
People jump back and forth between Vue and Svelte (or another JS framework of the year), while Aurelia quietly does its job without too much hype.
Re:Jack Dorsey texts Elon Musk, March 26, 2022 on Friday September 30, 2022 @06:35AM (#33033176)
And so is Musk.
It's not a pleasant development for the original poster, but as a side note, I, for one, would take any opportunity to work for Tesla if I could, and being separated from SO for a few months would not be a reason not to accept the offer or quit.
Re:Russia Cannot Win The War on Thursday March 03, 2022 @09:14AM (#30541269)
As one of them, I 100% agree.
Re:Ask HN: What companies are you excited about? on Friday January 22, 2021 @05:27AM (#25870328)
There is so much to tell, I will mention only a few key points for the each field.

Software: self driving capabilities (i.e. autopilot), FSD (Full Self Driving) beta, shadow-mode neural net testing, OTA (Over The Air) updates, games and entertaiment, Autobidder energy trading platform, etc. Battery: tabless design, dry electrode, new 4680 form-factor, nickel instead of cobalt, manufacturing and cost improvements, etc. Electronics: efficient motors and inverters, custom ASIC chip for FSD computer, Dojo supercomputer, etc. Mechanical engineering: "octovalve" thermal management, structural battery pack without modules, "mega casting" aluminium body design, etc.

Edit: forgot to mention supercharger network.

Re:Ask HN: What companies are you excited about? on Friday January 22, 2021 @04:04AM (#25869808)
Tesla. Far ahead of the competition in software, electronics and battery technology.
€1665 in Czechia, and we have much lower purchasing power.

Maybe it's not even a studio, it looks so clean and polished that it can all be CGI.
Re:Raspberry Pi 400 – First Impressions on Saturday November 07, 2020 @07:40AM (#25014730)
I don't mind to pay extra $30 if next version of the PC will have a M2 port, even USB routed, full-size HDMI, and combined audio/composite video port, same as on RPi A/B boards. Separate DAC could make nice addition. Hope that Raspberry Pi Foundation will listen to people's needs.
