they aren't being made whole by receiving "free credit monitoring" or a check for $12.83 18 months later either. maybe increasing the damages paid by the corporation is needed?
Re:Frontier Airlines Likely Breached on Sunday November 01, 2026 @06:47PM (#50331162)
I dont see why we should do unpaid work for megacorps. If I found a vuln, I would seriously consider releasing it on the darknet if I could even figure out how to use it. Not even try to sell it, just give it to them. I have no sympathy for the shareholders, or the corporate drones that work there. Who actually feels the damage?
maybe code will go the way of preciesely specified requirements. I guess that kind of exists already with formal proving, but maybe new languages will along that merge the two even closer. For example, instead of specifying a map data structure, you will specify a way two data elements associate, and AI will try various DS until it hones in on the "best" (highly dubious word there) one.

then: "big business and central finance are the reason fiat money sucks"

now: "big business and central finance are the reason digital money sucks"

Jet airliners do amazing things, moving people across continents. But they are seldom profitable. Airlines, in general, struggle to make money and have to try every trick in the book to sometimes squeeze a profit.
I notice these comments everywhere now. It's some rhetorical sleigh of hand that the absence of a refutal leads to a false assumption that their claim is obvious and needs no support.

What frustrates me is I _still_ can't buy a burrito with it! Cmon guys, I would gladly have a smart card or rfid phone app to efficiently move petty cash around and cut out the $0.50 that big banks make on every transaction. I won't have any more than $300 on it at any given time, so if I lose it im not out of a life savings.

Nope, using money for everyday purchases is not kewl enough for the bored apes.

Banks can't reverse wire transfers. Unless there is some super-level intervention that is very rarely used. But they can trace where it went.

Did they ever show proof that they actually hold $1 for every tether? This was big a few years ago but never heard anything about it since. (I could Google it but others here probably want to know)
> It's stunningly moronic

Lacing your message with insults neither emphasizes your point nor bolsters your credibility. democrats have assaulted the 2nd amendment, while enjoying all the benefits of having armed security for themselves. Hence, my original comment that they are just a uniparty, there is no right and left.

After seeing the real thing in a museum, I would love to have an Egyptian relief replica on the inside wall of my house. No sarcasm, I think it would be badass.
Taking AIPAC money for instance.
They have "evolved" to the point there is no difference between them anymore
That's patronizing. My point is that electrical code requires the use of safety devices (breakers are only one). Idiots plugging wires together without oversight cause fires.
Re:Apple introduces the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:35AM (#50260055)
I would buy apple hardware instantly if you could seamlessly install Linux on it just like a PC. Even if you had to "burn a fuse" to permanently detached it from Apples support and ecosystem.

I love and respect what Asahi has done but I want apple to support a turn key, open drivers, everything works, system.

I don't think it's that dangerous to work with 120v. There's arguably a greater risk with DC starting fires and killing you that way, or burning your house down.

IANAEE, but DC does most of its work with current instead of voltage. So direct shorts are more likely to turn into heating elements (you have to run thicker wire anyway to do the same amount of work). AC can detect and trip faster.

Also, adding/removing loads is more finicky with DC. It affects all the other things on the line much more dramatically than AC.

If I had the time and money to work on this, I would focus on powering heavy appliances with solar and just paying the power co for all the wall wart electronics. Getting a heat pump working with a thermal battery (water tank with heat exchanger), etc. Separate circuit for electric space heaters (with extra consideration for fire safety), and smart thermostat that runs extra heating/cooling beyond what I requested when the sun is shining, to try using the house's thermal storage.

It could be for fire code compliance. Not everyone knows that too much current through a small wire creates heat.

Cheaper now that they are running AI services at a loss.
I was looking at wireless cameras on eBay and had to stop because I realized I can't just check specs and price. I have to make sure they don't require a cloud connection and or a service plan.
Re:Full Disk Encryption on Fedora with TPM2 on Saturday October 24, 2026 @08:33PM (#50226985)
Doesn't MS use bitlocker? Or did for a long time, and haven't serious vulns been found in it? If so, I'm not even sure it's a valid comparison. One is real encryption the other is crypto-theater.

Also, isn't the insanity due to MS' influence? They were rumored to do this with influencing the UEFI spec, making Linux less desirable because it was so difficult to dual boot or even single boot UEFI when it came out. This conveniently helped windows hold market share (I'm going back to ballmer Linux=cancer days).

It would stand to reason MS would use their influence to make TPMs insane for end users to manage in Linux but a breeze in windows for the same reason. This is presuming we both agree that MS exerts control over hw manufacturers, I think this is clearly the case.

Easily repelled with knit wire though
I saw something recently about stun cuffs or something like that. Basically an electric torture device, being commissioned for US prisons. It might have even been a chair. This stuff has to stop.
Selling shovels is profitable even if there is no gold.
Re:Show HN: Making a smart TV dumb and then smart on Friday October 23, 2026 @08:57AM (#50208278)
This is a side topic, but relevant to those of us who care about UI/UX:

I have a webos TV and notice that it comes with free Samsung IPTV channels. But they are unusable because of the delay in switching between channels! This relatively minor detail could be the difference between a killer app that could grow and monetize, vs something that users try and give up on.

I'm sure there are ways to make it as fast as cable TV, even if it initially degraded the video or had other consequences.

I think we can get mostly there with AI and bug bounties. I think we're right in the middle of "peeling the bandaid off" right now. The code released in the near future will have the same opportunity to run through the 0-day gauntlet. So if it contains exploitable bugs, they generally could have caught them. Sweeten the deal with cash and you can outsource most of that.
Why punish the leadership? they were just following their "fiduciary duty to shareholders" to maximize value.
He's not attempting he's fucking doing it. Which to me signals deeper problems with our supposed "system of checks and balances" that we're taught since grade school. The system was specifically designed to prevent this, and yet it's happened. Whether Trump is impeached or imprisoned or whatever is secondary to plugging the holes he used to do this in the first place.

You're missing that properly prescribed meds to the people who use them responsibility and don't have any unfortunate horror stores .... do not write their experiences in online social media sites or blogs.
