Re:Moving our warehouse off DuckDB on Monday November 02, 2026 @01:52PM (#50341691)
Right, there is an option to scale horizontally, if a lot of queries are queued, Snowflake can spin up another node. But that doesn't help if you query is spilling to remote storage. You need a bigger node to speed up those queries.

Snowflake has an option to add more resources, which is supposed to be vertical scaling, but it doesn't work as well as increasing the size of the warehouse

Re:My Favourite Laptop on Monday November 02, 2026 @01:20PM (#50341160)
I don't think Framework aims to be a laptop that you just set it up and forget. You own everything and that comes with some concessions. Things won't always work, software will always be tricky to make fully compatible, etc.

But that's the price to pay to actually own your laptop.

That said, I heard Mac OS quality has been going downhill since a few years ago

Re:WTF Ubuntu? on Monday November 02, 2026 @12:14PM (#50340054)
Which OP doesn't pay, as they claim they use Ubuntu because it comes as default with VPS
Re:Moving our warehouse off DuckDB on Monday November 02, 2026 @12:11PM (#50340009)
How does Snowflake use that information? You still need to pick the warehouse. It would be cool if there was an "elastic warehouse" where heavier queries are routed to bigger Warehouses, but that's not the case

"The free operating system that I use is not giving me enterprise level security updates"

I believe you can contribute to Ubuntu's source code right? Why don't you fix the issue then?

Re:So I guess everyone uses LLMs to think now on Sunday November 01, 2026 @07:29PM (#50331489)
In which ways are you forced to use it though?
After stealing all personal work from the internet one must say
Yes, and distance from Earth actually decreased during part of the year (I believe)
Re:A/SIDE – Private photo sharing and encrypted messages on Saturday October 31, 2026 @01:29PM (#50318123)
Yes, exactly! If it reads that it took you 10 minutes to code then I'm not paying shit
I can send you a picture of the undercarriage of my 2014 car
Re:Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue on Thursday October 29, 2026 @01:58PM (#50293250)
Search numbers are down because Google search has become crap. I know a lot of people which I don't consider tech enthusiasts and they moved from Google to duckduckgo.

I have moved to Kagi myself

Jokes on you. In the Northeast cars rust in less than 10 years. We don't need parts
I think the solution is to make childcare affordable with government intervention. But that's not going to happen if people keep having kids. There needs to be an actual demographic crisis
I'm not even referring to that. I'm talking about basic stuff that anyone should research before having a kid like "childcare is too expensive" or "I don't get enough sleep"

I thought that was obvious

Then maybe it's best not to have kids no? I don't know why people bring it up like it's mandatory or something Like if you want a robot to take care of your kid you may as well just skip instead of putting your kid through that.

(I'm not saying you specifically, but a lot of people complain all the time about how hard raising a kid is)

Why?
Re:The Agent SDK on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @10:32AM (#50274311)
That's the whole point with AI. It's consumerism applied to software... And it sucks
Re:Two high-speed trains collide near Toledo, Spain on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @09:58AM (#50273648)
Incompetence on whose part?
Re:Hex Raises $100M on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @06:15PM (#50266625)
How do you share a dashboard built in Marimo with someone that doesn't have any coding experience (for example someone from marketing) Can you host it somewhere?
Re:Hex Raises $100M on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @06:14PM (#50266606)
I liked Hex. I introduced it to my company and now it has become the main BI tool.

However, since they started pushing the whole AI thing I no longer like them.

It may speed up doing analytics, but makes everything hard to maintain, creates a ton of duplication and adds yet another layer to take care of.

I also think AI may come back to bite them in the ass. What's the point of an analytics platform is you can create dashboards from scratch directly using AI. What are they adding to the table?

They should have stuck to just making developers lives easier instead of that weird objective that is trying to make analytics accessible for everyone

It's funny that a lot of the "helping" is just actually filling paperwork.

If that's the bottleneck maybe we need to rethink all the bureaucracy around the process instead of using AI to fill a document and then using AI to read it. That's just plain stupid.

I think they meant six scientists from "Generate Biomedicines" (the company)

Either that or six degenerate scientists. Both options work just fine

At that point you are just defining the requirements, you may as well write the code for it

Helium is really hard to store and transport
Re:US Wages Share of GDI at 75 Year Low on Monday October 26, 2026 @07:17AM (#50241939)
Large tech companies have been excellent at claiming that they are doing R&D and claiming tax breaks for that.
Re:Air Purifiers as White Noise Machines on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:31AM (#50231384)
Those websites look really sketchy
Re:Air Purifiers as White Noise Machines on Sunday October 25, 2026 @08:05AM (#50230716)
Which models would you recommend?
Do you just show a different page to scrappers? How do you know they are misconfigured? I would like to implement something similar
They obviously mean whoever created the LLM. We don't judge the weapon, we judge whoever uses the weapon
Nice, let's repost it tomorrow then
