Wrong again, Xanax is prescribed for years at a time. Many people go decades taking a few mg of Xanax a day.
That is false. Xanax withdrawal is extremely dangerous and suddenly stopping can cause death.

Please google Xanax addiction before posting more nonsense.

Guess I was misktaken. I had the choice between a thinkpad and MacBook and given an iPhone, didn’t realize we could get an android or just didn’t pay attention...
I’m not sure about an Android internal app, all employees are given brand new iPhone x’s.

When I worked there we all had to use the internal fb and IG apps and do all communication through them.

Switching to android would mean a huge IT change and mean replacing every employees phone.

I had to use the BART the other day. The choices were $2.50 in cash or use a card where the minimum was $20 to fill a pass. I choose cash since I’m not from the Bay Area.

I don’t know about Seattle, but in California most recreational cannabis stores don’t accept card so that was another couple of hundred dollars I had to withdraw and use this week.

$670 million this year. Due to our our exploding home values and decling enrollment.
As a native austinite and engineer I completely disagree. The eastSide was a terrible place before. Going into pan am park was a no go at any time of the day. Comunities and infrastructure were dying in eat Austin. Also, It had extremely low home ownership rates so the lower class didn’t even own homes in these areas but made money for westside landlords.

South congress was full of crackheads and prostitutes as early as the 90’s. We had real urban decay. Now we are growing like crazy and if you’re willing to work hard any immigrant can get a construction job and make a great living for themselves.

This is true for alcohol but I'm not sure about cannabis.

In California, a heavy indica is a recommended by doctors for sleep. My understanding is that it only affects R.E.M. sleeep.

Anecdotally, I track my sleep and when I smoked a heavy indica before bed I would consistently get at high 80 to 90% sleep quality. I'm on a couple of month tolerance break and have a hard time breaking 80% sleep quality.

Counterpoint. I've had three thinkpads over the past 5 years for work. For two years I used Linux and am currently using windows 10.

Just bought my first Mac Pro in December. It is miles ahead in design and quality. The keyboard is brilliant and while I miss the trackpad dot the Apple mouse is the greatest I've ever used. The OS is still more intuitive and easier to modify.

It might not "freak you out" how would you feel if your kids told you their new favorite rapper is 6ix9ine.

Check out hip hop. Many of the current stars started out posting videos to YouTube or tracks to SoundCloud.

The diy hustle of making mix tapes and homemade videos is how the current stars of rap, Migos, blew up.

SoundCloud rappers are a thing. It's a drug influenced, dreary subgenra that's launched dozens of stars, lil uzi vert or for example.

>contemporaries drank alcohol, smoked marijuana, traveled extensively, spent rather than saved, and otherwise wasted their gifts

The point most people are bringing up in this thread is that the children of the upperclass do that all the time and still inherit enough wealth and property to earn more than you.

What exactly is the phenomenal technology?

Most people on HN understand the Blockchain can be described as a p2p distributed database. It has great use cases, like asset registries, but im still waiting for the killer applications.

Personally, I've only used cryptocurrency for buying drugs on darknet matkets. We were the people actually using btc. Until the transaction fees got crazy and people moved toward better coins.

Seattle?

But I don't think every city needs Manhattan style density. Four, five story mid-rise density is the answer. Austin's urban core is building heavily in that style. I was just in Milwaukee for work as was surprised by the huge number of mid-rise buildings all over downtown. Just to show two midsized cities with insane growth at the core.

I remember reading about african immigrant being paid 4 euros an hour on Sting's vineyard.

Please read Ghost Wars by Steve Coll or read up on the various Latin American dictators the CIA supported.

The US may not be the 'worst' but we certainly have our hands bloodier than most nations.

This is also a well known contributor. Remember when Google and Apple were caught (and maybe fined?) for suppressing wages a few years ago?
Uhmm... maybe you're not there yet but we had a civil war a hundred years after the revolutionary war :).

I think it's important to note that the majority of these protests are happening in large urban cities on the coasts that overwhelming did not vote for Trump. There are no large protests in the Middle of the country.

I'd also like to see the source for he 3% number that leads to overthrow.

This is a proposed bill by California democrat Zoe Lofgren.

Thankfully it has zero chance of passing.

Does anybody know of a good, complete, ebike conversion kit for an older trek mountain bike?

I have a 4.4 mile round trip commute but I don't really want to spend $1000+ , plus I'm pretty diy.

No, the economist is nearly all commentary and investigative reports. I still like the Wall Street Journal.

Just compare the current front page of both to see the difference. wsj.com economist.com

Ok... what would we call your strong opinions?

Re:What Makes Texas Texas on Friday May 13, 2016 @07:16PM (#11693812)
You're right, I had to google it.

Apparently only 51% of the state said they would disapprove of accepting Syrian refugees into Texas even with a security clearance process in place

Re:What Makes Texas Texas on Friday May 13, 2016 @06:58PM (#11693733)
Yes it's a common troupe, like in portland or seattle, that Austinites don't want more people, especially Californians, migrating in.

But come one come all! We have plenty of space and opportunities.

Re:What Makes Texas Texas on Friday May 13, 2016 @06:55PM (#11693722)
Well considering 40% of Texas is hispanic, including myself, it's not really about the color of your skin. That incident was because syrian refugees cause a lot of trouble all over Europe and we don't want them here.

Hillary Clinton is Bush III.
Really, any day?

It's 65 and sunny in Houston today, it's 16 and snowing in Ottawa.
