Re:AI is destroying my CS degree on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @11:49AM (#50354389)
Yeah. This is absolutely not the case when I worked on control systems, cryptography, or anything else that isn’t a CRUD saas.
The LLM bubble is fuelled by speculation and not current utility.
Are LLMs the best use Of ram? Many other extremely beneficial devices for extremely high value use cases are suffering because of this madman trying to corner the market. Show me the value of everything else suffering.
If we want to talk efficiency, the market and investors seem awfully irrational to me. The whole scarcity and costs skyrocketing for other proven and more valuable use cases is because of inefficiency imo.

It’s more akin to giving up smoking.
No. And this reminds me of the “meat proxies” we see now who are “smart” and “powerful” using Claude.
And crime.

Heh yeah. Sounded to me like “I agree with everything but realized this is a right wing article and just can’t.. so here’s a left wing rage bait instead”

Re:There isn't an easy exploit for this PHP vulnerability on Thursday October 22, 2026 @02:10AM (#50191766)
This is the least professional Video I’ve ever seen for anything like this. I can’t even follow what’s happening on screen.
Very little tbh in the ones that did well. The provinces that do well end up feeding and transferring money over to others.
I’ve been in municipalities and provinces running healthy surpluses and the economy booms during those times. People do better and schools are better run and so on. And for that matter, Canada boomed after the government fixed the budget in the late 90s. We went south again when the new government showed a complete lack of respect for money.

That may be anthropomorphism things. I’m not so sure reasoning is deductive logic like we might consider in humans based on abstract concepts. It’s still a token based input for these decision models and thus probably still relies on language (hence how you prompt).

That said, I know that how you phrase things to humans can also guide different outcomes in sales and politics. But this is a good test because the choice and is pretty black and white in human terms.

Re:CPI-U rises 7.2% annualized in September (3.7% YoY) on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @04:21PM (#50094549)
People don’t realize just how much of our economy is driven by oil. Nearly all of it.

Who buys the hundreds of trillions in government bonds? The USA has a lot of buyers, they’re lucky as that’s not the case everywhere. Sometimes the spending is too out of control and there aren’t enough organic buyers. That’s when central banks come in and go brrrr and money supply increases.
They burn out in the life of a dc.
Re:New Apple TV 4K on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @10:47AM (#50072609)
I have an AppleTV because I never want to plug my TV into the internet. I just need a box that can stream videos. Does it need to have AI? No. It really doesn’t. I wish Apple just dropped all this junk and figured out what they want that TV app to do.
Re:Kevin Kelly's 2016 AI Predictions, 10 Years Later on Monday October 12, 2026 @07:09PM (#50064333)
It’s still search. They had an AI based search for quite some time. Now it spits out a summary.
Re:Type-safe HTML templating in Zig on Monday October 12, 2026 @06:52PM (#50064200)
You can have a safe library that does this and then enforce its usage with a linter or something. Template engines print strings and escape them under the hood.
Re:Fingerprints Are the New Cookies on Monday October 12, 2026 @06:38PM (#50064068)
There’s an idea for a new blocker. Fingerprint the fingerprinters and block them.
> if this bet holds, a user could get the same or more done with a cheaper model (running-cost wise) while paying the same subscription

I think there will be a few forces driving prices lower if anything.

Everyone is currently looking at their spend on AI and the revenue growth for their own companies that this spend is not yielding.

I also think that if there is any competition, they won’t be able to lock in prices where they stand. Especially with open source models.

Telnet still very popular with embedded. SSH is not a spring chicken either.
People make the best decisions for them and they have the freedom to do so. Who am I to decide that their 2 bedroom bungalo needs to be torn-down for a massive 5 bedroom infill for example.
Let’s say you wee solid middle class and bought your forever home, in what was at the time, the near suburbs. Now that neighbourhood is unaffordable. The city might set a percentage of the home value as their target but now your well placed forever home is beyond your what your pension can afford. This happened a lot in Canada.

The worst part is that for all these taxes, the level of service has dropped since that home was bought.

The funny thing about land and population growth is that land doesn’t. It’s fixed.
> - In China, of course, public surveillance is also huge (at least in the big cities). I don't know how Chinese citizens think about that.

And thanks to surveillance, you never will.

Don’t paste your research into these AI because they will train on it and then scoop you.
Re:Vibecoding isn't as fun as writing code by hand on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @05:11PM (#49984214)
This is new to me (last 6 months or so). What I’m observing is people growing lazy. I think it will take a while for it to swing back because momentum is still in the wrong direction.
Re:Vibecoding isn't as fun as writing code by hand on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @11:01AM (#49979540)
I’m doubtful. I’ve seen increasing hands-off work where bots are now replying on PRs, tickets, and even DMs!
I don’t believe any of these AI detectors.
Re:Web Search API on Monday October 05, 2026 @08:34AM (#49964037)
Curious what other people’s experience is with cloudflare billing. When you go through an AE, everything seems made up anyways.
