I've heard a few English parents tell their children to take a "wild wee".
Re:What Happened to the Neanderthals? on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @07:54AM (#50272150)
The widely held consensus to this day is still two species. My point was mostly pedantic.
Re:What Happened to the Neanderthals? on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @05:56AM (#50271172)
Neanderthals are classified as Homo neanderthalensis and not Homo sapiens.
Probably because you are posting in "Ask”.

I'm assuming that means ad impressions and not unique ads.

Why not just make the new neighborhoods walkable with green space too?
Humans never hunted or lived alone.
Bing isn’t re-selling you back the content it took.
No, but that doesn't stop them from pushing vibe coded software at meetings and demanding it be put into production or otherwise regurgitating verbatim what their agents tell them.

Sometimes there is joy in discovering things for yourself. Also, the oracle currently relies on humans publishing new information, what will you do when the incentive is gone and the oracle has nothing to harvest?
Re:The Death of Shame Is Tearing Us Apart on Friday September 11, 2026 @07:12AM (#49656437)
Regarding the article's example of "tanking" in NBA games in the opening paragraph, what would solve this is a switch from the franchise system to a promotion/relegation system. No team would bench their best players or throw a game when relegation to a lower division is on the line.

Also behind Cloudflare's moats.

I would also prefer to avoid the tech fiefdoms and all the other idiotic nonsense reactionaries push these days.
Re:AI handles incidents, engineers lose touch with their systems on Saturday September 05, 2026 @06:33AM (#49575152)
Which model though? I have similar anecdotes but all with older models. The jump in capabilities in the last 6 months has been substantial.
Re:The asteroid currently hitting front end web development on Friday September 04, 2026 @06:54AM (#49562885)
That only works if viable alternatives exist, the moats aren’t too large and users have the freedom to switch. For example, Reddit was a viable alternative to Digg at the time, Facebook was a viable alternative to MySpace. Enterprise software has some truly grotesque UI but the user doesn’t have the freedom to switch and the moats are enormous.

Fridge water dispensers are usually quite flimsy and the first thing to break. I can fully understand why rental properties would disable them or get ones without the feature.

Let's not forget that PE demands cheaper labor costs for higher returns.

Yes, which is part of a wider narrative in the US that insists everything must be privatized because the government cannot be trusted or is otherwise incompetent.

You can add Pre-K education to that list. It's on par in terms of costs with sending your kids to college.

Your standard of living eschews patience and waiting?

Forget corporate owned malls, what US towns need are actual downtowns. When I first came to the US I was shocked at either the lack of a downtown or if there was one, it was mostly run down and abandoned. Sometimes the "downtown" was just an intersection of strip malls. I suppose the oddball zoning rules in the US don’t help but so many "towns" in the US are just blobs of buildings and not actual towns.

No, that’s not a new phenomenon. Tabloids and political rags filled that market well before the Internet. News organizations aren’t static entities, they come in a wide variety of flavors.

Yes, that’s also a problem too.
Re:Some more things about Django I've been enjoying on Sunday July 26, 2026 @09:31AM (#49058052)
Better yet, put gunicorn behind nginx, make sure all static assets are served by nginx, add appropriate Cache Control headers. Furthermore understand and use Django’s page caching.
Irrigation isn’t the only concern but also the loads of herbicides and pesticides that get dumped on them.
No, they want you to search multiple times to show you more ads.

That assumes OP will still be in business if that day even happens. Odds are that cheap AI access will be around for longer than freelancers can remain solvent.
