Seems pretty straightforward. If you are surrounded by adversaries that vastly outnumber you, you invest in other forms of strength
Interesting experience I supposed. Mine is the exact opposite. Neighbors in the suburbs are a community , whereas in the city, it’s common for neighbors to remain strangers.

It is also true developers can have a myopic view of what should be valued and that can be incongruent with the business.

You can make a perfectly rational business choice to take on tech debt to get a feature sooner.

The key difference is that the models upgrade multiple times a year. It is an inherently different than a commodity market
Re:Scrap on Sunday August 23, 2026 @03:36PM (#49411768)
That is a fairly sterile reading of the situation. It’s hard to explain to those who haven’t been close to it.

It’s like how defaulting to invest in a 401k creates massive improvements for savings for the population with a 401k

There are those who will frivolously spend money that could pay an electricity bill, then end up without power.

Depends how pervasive the issue. I agree a human in the loop for reasonable redress is appropriate
Re:Scrap on Sunday August 23, 2026 @02:54PM (#49411385)
I think the most reasonable answer is that first world countries provide access to many opportunities that do not exist elsewhere. People can and do lift themselves from poverty with these opportunities.
Re:What Is a Harness? on Sunday August 23, 2026 @02:51PM (#49411359)
It really doesn’t need to be that much more specified, give it context to the tools and level of analysis you expect then “why app slow” is a reasonable prompt

The parent was obviously referring to 1st world countries
Re:Scrap on Saturday August 22, 2026 @08:22PM (#49405139)
In my lived experience, the majority of poverty is the inability to delay gratification. Whether you want to attribute that to personal failings or to other things is a separate question

You can buy a 5 bed 4 bath house in Tulsa, OK for under $400K
Anthropic has gotten much better results by just having a different agent audit the actions of the original agent. It works surprisingly well

The 90s were very different from the 2000s
Sure in the same way you could automate Shakespeare plays by having a room full of monkeys with typewriters.

The space of mathematical statements is infinite. Having the taste, insight, and creativity to reach points in that space that are meaningful to humans is the entire game

That is completely discounting future capabilities and new use cases. Sure in 10 years you will have current SOTA locally, but in no way is it obvious we are anywhere near the limit of marginal value from improved capability
Re:OverpAId – Fire your CEO. Hire the future on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @10:56AM (#49007818)
Is your opinion that groups of 1000+ naturally align and deliver business value lock step with company needs? Is coordination not needed? Is leadership not needed?
And my point is it’s a strawman. Advanced math is obviously creative to those who practice it, and it’s disingenuous to boil it down to grade school triangle proofs

That would be like saying Shakespeare isn’t creative , since grade school grammar doesn’t feel creative

Why is your example SAS triangles and not something like the modularity theorem?
Re:Rewriting Bun in Rust on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @11:35PM (#48840683)
It is widely accepted that you can get better performance with c++ far easier than C. Outside of custom rolling assembly , a large aspect of performance tuning is compile time optimization, which is extremely non trivial in C, while being supported in language with C++. All the things people associate with C performance can be done in C++, the converse is not true

Re:Meta to cut 10% of jobs, or 8k employees on Friday April 24, 2026 @01:26PM (#47893248)
What is the intended purpose of giving a generic notice like this to employees? Are they suppose to compete for job security or start interviewing elsewhere?
We already have data on one of those…

Pragmatically, the main reason that has been true throughout all of history is that women are more valuable reproductively. A country can lose half its men in a war and still recover. The same is not true if it loses half its women.

Physicality. You don’t even own digital games, let alone cosmetics for your digital game license.
