tom hardware website genuinely looks like some kind of satire or meta-irony about ads. When "What’s the max you’re willing to pay for a new Keyboard?" insert and "
Get club Access Quick" popup kick in at the same time there is almost no content left on the screen, just ads. I don't believe this is not some kind of a sick joke!
Damn, I wonder if "control center" is just a bunch of software, not very reliable then!
I always thought there is a system of rail signals which should prevent accidents like this always in place, like dividing railroad into sections, turn on red light if the next section is occupied, yellow before that and so on...
Did it fail somehow which lead to this accident? I think such systems must be redundant enough to survive even without power/computers?
DNS block is really the most lazy and easily bypassable type of block you can imagine.
It is like blocking something with a gate which you can open by reaching a latch on the other side with your hand
Only the freaking politician can attempt to block something via DNS ;)
Even if we accept your risk-benefit framework, it doesnt follow that banning something improves overall welfare.
Prohibition has costs of its own: black markets, organised crime, unsafe products, enforcement expenses and incarceration.
You acknowledge that alcohol has social benefits, but apparently heroin doesnt. Why? Because alcohol facilitates socialisation? Because its culturally accepted? Who gets to determine the "prosocial value" of an activity? Almost any unhealthy behavior can be framed as a societal cost.
Theres an enormous amount of subjectivity here. Some people genuinely enjoy recreational drug use. Others enjoy gambling, despite knowing they will probably lose money.
You are arguing that the state should determine which activities are permissible based on their net social utility. Im arguing that danger alone should not give the state a right to prohibit consenting adults from engaging in any activity. Individual autonomy has value in itself, including the freedom to make decisions that are objectively bad for oneself.
Great news! Now just waiting for "No more liquid glass in every menu by default" and I would consider migrating from Sequoia
>Should we legalize heroin and legalize advertising heroin on TV?
Im always amused by this line of thought, should we make alcohol illegal then and ban advertising it on tv? What about soda with too much sugar? Should we, perhaps, ban everything which is addictive and causes any harm?
I don't think too much of an insight is needed to understand that most of them 30000 code changes per day is just going around in circles, agent A introducing some kind of new abstraction, agent B finding and refactoring that abstraction, agent C figuring out that refactored abstraction introduced regressions, fixing and creating new tests for an abstraction, agent D finding out new abstraction was not needed in the first place and cleaning it up. Management s ecstatic seeing 4 merged PRs – time to make a blog post about merges per day growing more than tenfold.
>We do 25 gazillion code checkouts per day and we merge 30 trillizillion
code changes per day because we have 10 megazilion agents working on TEN MILLION projects at the same time in a 100 PETABYTE monorepo. Git is just not enough for us...
Typical anthropic post.
This very well illustrates an inherent property of distributed systems – resilience.
Turns out digital sovereignty is a bad idea in terms of state security.
Don't put all eggs into one basket they told ya!
I don't think it's correct to call the economics basics racism. It's not like they are paying differently based on race, they do it based on the demand and availability of supply.
Just move to US, luckily this is a matter of two clicks on the internet
I have just one question: if they have millions of agents working on the same codebase at the same time, why the heck they can't just build the next Git platform on Cloudflare?
For sure, there is also the best security approach – just turn the damn thing off, which they also practice quite often. POS terminals turn into bricks, apps turn into splash screens, businesses loose ton of money, all of this this is just a minor nuisance for an ordinary russian citizen.
nvim has all the functions of tmux and also it has an editor.
Make nvim the OS
Reminds me of a funny story of how russian government faced the same paradox, and they solved it in the most elegant way, all foreign traffic equals VPN, so foreign traffic is essentially forbidden. Russian people outside of russia literallt can't access state services without a "reverse-vpn" now.
If you think they will stop at a mere "technical impossibility" I have bad news for you folks, they will just ban all the traffic they can't track, in Utah, UK, anywhere;)
Ummm, what's wrong with the current database infrastructure? Agentic AI having problems with it? Anybody knows why does it need it's own infrastructure?
Im not that familiar with agentic ai or supabase or turso, just curious about their tagline.
The actual scary part is that people already manipulate and poison the google overviews on purpose.
It is very easy to bring your bs to the TOP spot on google at the moment with carefully crafted reddit comments and blogs, and it's not hard to get to the traffic and clicks this way.
This is what the new SEO is about, I know a bunch of people who are doing this and they are praying it is not getting fixed anytime soon.
We need to go further and ban mini camera module for raspberry pi zero. Imeagine someone can record you with this stuff...
Cm'on! This is not russia. Yet
But you can just use the browser with an adblocker for Youtube on the phone, which also allows you to play audio in the background for free e.g. for playing music, what's the point in using the app at all?
>I have no clue how popular it is
though overall, presumably not
super popular.
It's not very popular because you can remove ALL ads from youtube using a free browser extension
I think deflation-based economy could produce some interesting capital-allocation environemnt. Investment offering a 2% real return becomes unattractive if cash itself earns 2% real purchasing-power yearly. You could argue this raises the hurdle rate for investment and eliminates low-quality projects. And the counterargument is exactly the same: it raises the hurdle rate for investment and therefore some potentially good projects would never receive funding. And thats probably where the intellectually interesting argument really lives, rather than in inflation good deflation bad
Not sure if that's something most people want, but it seems it's definitely something most big tech execs see as the most brilliant idea ever.
This reminds me of microsoft recall story, but under the apple sauce;)
100% agreed, auth-walling the broadcasting service which is de-facto used as a public infrastructure by so many parties around the world is just straight an a-hole move, even though it's a private company and they can do whatever they want about it. Who knows maybe at some point in the future they will decide twitter will only be available with a paid subscription.
Usability for announcers, I meant. Seems it's easier for them to just post on twitter instead of having to deal with whatever interface their internal systems provide
Wow, this is kind of a mess, seems twitter won from usability standpoint here
In this case it seems that linking to the CHP website would likely crash their web servers. Understandable:)
