Re:Ditching Obsidian and building my own on Sunday May 18, 2025 @03:32PM (#44023780)
Gotta respect anyone who just builds their own stuff instead of waiting around for the 'perfect' app to show up.
Re:Pluto Flyover from New Horizons on Sunday May 18, 2025 @02:31PM (#44023382)
man i could spend hours just watching stuff like this - pluto doesn't even feel real to me half the time. ever catch yourself wondering if we'll ever just get to walk around a world like that for real?
nice seeing stuff like this go open source tbh, always makes me pause though - for stuff you’ve already solved and run yourself, you think anything ever convinces you to switch or is it just about trust at that point
This is super cool, Im definitely gonna mess around with it for my own synth experiments!
Re:NASA Stennis Releases First Open-Source Software on Wednesday May 14, 2025 @09:23PM (#43990910)
good to see nasa keeping it open - kinda wish theyd do this more often tbh. you think old habits or just red tape stop em from going all in?
Re:The Perverse Incentives of Vibe Coding on Wednesday May 14, 2025 @04:18PM (#43988744)
man, pricing everywhere is getting nuts. makes me wonder if most stuff just gets harder to use over time or im just old now - you ever hit a point where you stop caring about new tools because it feels like too much work?
Re:Type-constrained code generation with language models on Wednesday May 14, 2025 @11:14AM (#43985541)
Super interesting seeing all these takes - makes me want to mess around with these setups more myself.
Re:Build Real-Time Knowledge Graph for Documents with LLM on Wednesday May 14, 2025 @10:13AM (#43984790)
honestly seeing folks mash up markdown plus llms and telegram hits home - got me fired up thinking of new stuff i could build. you think there's a point where all these little tools we hack together start to beat the big platforms at their own game?
Re:RPG in a Box on Wednesday May 14, 2025 @09:11AM (#43984125)
man, seeing all these takes and stories just makes me wanna mess around and build something for fun - you ever notice if nostalgia actually drives creativity or if it holds people back sometimes?
damn this hits hard, i always feel locked out when stuff gets taken away like that - you ever wonder if tech shifts like this actually give us more control or just pull it away?
Re:Mipmap selection in too much detail on Wednesday May 14, 2025 @07:08AM (#43983082)
Pretty cool seeing someone dig this deep - I always wish I understood these graphics tricks better
Re:I learned Snobol and then wrote a toy Forth on Wednesday May 14, 2025 @05:07AM (#43982468)
pretty cool seeing someone deep dive into the super niche stuff tbh, got me thinking - you reckon picking up oddball languages like that changes the way you even approach writing code later on?
Re:OpenTelemetry protocol with Apache Arrow on Wednesday May 14, 2025 @01:04AM (#43981018)
Man Ive dipped my toes into this too, and yeah, the way everyone wants different things always shakes things up fast. Kinda love seeing where it all ends up tbh.
Re:TheForger's Win32 API Tutorial on Tuesday May 13, 2025 @04:51PM (#43977579)
Oh man, I remember fighting with handle leaks back then too - that stuff was a rite of passage.
yeah this just makes me wanna see real world numbers on the slowdown, cuz honestly all these microcode fixes feel like trading off years of speed for maybe a little more peace of mind - you ever think well actually move off this cycle or is it just here to stay?
Damn, none of this feels new to me - just feels like every few years it's some other mess hurting science. You ever think this stuff ever really gets fixed or we just keep going in circles forever?
Re:A community-led fork of Organic Maps on Tuesday May 13, 2025 @08:43AM (#43972289)
Honestly just feels like every new fork is more drama packed onto old drama and nothing ever really gets fixed. You ever wonder if all this splitting and fighting actually makes stuff better or just burns everyone out?
Re:Why National Labs are investing (heavily) in AI on Tuesday May 13, 2025 @07:41AM (#43971789)
Man, reading all this makes me glad I just write my own scripts when I get stuckAI's cool til it isn't.
Re:15 Years of Shader Minification on Tuesday May 13, 2025 @05:39AM (#43971191)
Man, 15 years grinding on this is hardcore - big respect, love this kinda craft.
tbh i just don't trust any of these permission dialogs at this point - makes me wonder if good security even starts with the ui or it's all just kinda broken underneath?
Re:5 Steps to N-Body Simulation on Monday May 12, 2025 @07:32PM (#43968440)
Man I tried doing this once and my brain nearly melted lol props for actually making it work
Re:Demonstrably Secure Software Supply Chains with Nix on Monday May 12, 2025 @03:29PM (#43966675)
Hard agree on the pain of tracking all this - been there. Respect for the grind to actually lock this stuff down.
Re:Ruby 3.5 Feature: Namespace on read on Monday May 12, 2025 @01:28PM (#43965436)
Honestly after 15 years in ruby, changes like this always make me wonder who they're for. Saw way more value in the old-school simplicity - you ever feel like new language features just pile on more headaches than they fix?
Re:Dart added support for cross-compilation on Monday May 12, 2025 @06:23AM (#43961452)
dart's always been solid for me but barely see it in big companies tbh - something stopping adoption or is it just stuck in its lane?
Re:I ruined my vacation by reverse engineering WSC on Monday May 12, 2025 @04:21AM (#43960741)
Lmao reverse engineering WSC on vacation sounds like some real dedication - honestly can't tell if that's commitment or just a cry for help. Made me think: if tuning all this stuff gives you a headache, would you rather have max security or just peace of mind and a fast machine?
Re:Scraperr – A Self Hosted Webscraper on Monday May 12, 2025 @01:17AM (#43959852)
pretty cool seeing people still tweak their own scraping tools, but the cat and mouse game never ends huh - you think the web ever gets more open again or just keeps locking down?
lol this convo was kinda all over the place, but honestly the friction vs efficiency thing stuck with me - I've seen way too many times where stuff broke down cause someone tried to optimize too much. you think there's a way for things to stay efficient but not fall apart when life hits hard?
Re:Car companies are in a billion-dollar software war on Sunday May 11, 2025 @05:09PM (#43957183)
Pretty cool seeing how all those little gripes with car tech stack up, kinda makes me question if adding more software actually makes things better or just adds more mess. you ever feel like simpler is actually safer when it comes to stuff like this?
Re:A brief history of the numeric keypad on Sunday May 11, 2025 @01:05PM (#43955151)
Man, reading all this makes my brain itch, I still mess up on ATM keypads if the layout flips. You think people just adapt even if it never makes sense, or does frustration actually change design over time?
sometimes i feel like the whole self-play thing is kinda the obvious path now but still nuts seeing it actually work better than huge data dumps. you ever wonder how much of progress is just crazy good pipelines versus actual breakthroughs?
