I prefer less terse code for readability too. LOC is a decent approximation for complexity but it breaks down when people optimize for it.

It's a tricky problem to decide which idioms are most expressive/readable/maintainable as it's has a group dynamic. My rule of thumb, if I feel I've written clever code it's time to rethink approach.

DDT has been demonised with much good cause, predator bird egg fragility leading to extinction and near extinction being a red light of many environmental issues. However, there maybe sensible case for usage of it or analogues that is prevented because of prejudgement.

We defend against DDT and ignore names we don't know at all.

There has been no write off of debt.

The bailout was; Greece was lent money it could not have gotten on the open market. Mostly to pay off debts from bank the Eurozone feels too big too fail ( my speculation ).

The creditors ( banks ) are part of "moral" game here too. If the Euro cannot handle Greek ( and Spanish , Italian, Portuguese , Irish ) default then members of the Euro must share the imbalance.

As an american tax payer it hurt to watch bank bailouts here. In europe I keep hearing countries names, but this is a bank bailout fundamentally.

Sticking the debt on national governments while also forcing austerity ( defacto shrinking of GDP ) leads to a lose:lose.
