Bro is using the Factorio model of resource reallocation.
What do you mean?

Doesn't every Googler have weekly meetings with Tim Google?

> Try to find insightful reflection of humanity and truth in a Marvel movie...

Why would you look for that in any standard action movie?

Not every movie needs to awaken your soul to some big revelation about the universe.

The industry is called "the entertainment industry" for a reason. People are able to be entertained without deep philosophical introspection.

Re:Genie 4 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @08:49PM (#50267984)
I watched it on mute, and even so I figured it didn't sound great, given that the guy's fingers barely move at all.
You can't even stick by the same opinion from one comment to the next.

It seems that you want to oppose something really badly today, but you're struggling to find something that makes sense for more than 5 minutes.

"I know I'm not the target audience and I don't have any interest in how things work, but let me tell you how you're wrong by telling you who the actual target audience is"

What's next? Are you going to give us your opinion of music genres you don't ever listen to? And tell us who should listen to them too, I suppose.

I was gonna say "too pedantic even for an LLM" but then I got worried that it might be read as a compliment.
That is literally what this does
Re:No Man Is an Island on Friday October 09, 2026 @06:28PM (#50027368)
I'm glad you posted this, because I only knew the last two sentences, and I had completely misunderstood the meaning.

I thought it was more of a warning, like an omen. It turns out it's closer to the Tao.

Re:No Man Is an Island on Friday October 09, 2026 @06:24PM (#50027340)
I didn't buy into the "copying unauthorized zeros and ones is theft" narrative (because it's not even an argument) when old music industry executives were screaming about Napster, and I'm certainly not gonna start now.

There's absolutely a moral debate to be had in this topic, but if your starting position is redefining common language and twist the meaning of words beyond reason, then you've already shut it down before it's even started.

Re:Animated ASCII Art for Web Pages on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @04:32PM (#49998426)
Well, it's technically PETSCII art, but the model can be trained on any bitmap charset. So you can make ATARIART or SPECCYART or whatever.

It's not correct to say that most of the information is in the color, though.

I can't remember if it's explained in the readme or not, but what makes this different from other converters is that it matches 1bit 8x8 blocks from the source image to the best matching character, increasing the perceived resolution of the output image.

It's a dumb idea I wanted to implement to amuse myself, and it's not better or worse than any similar tools, but AFAIK it uses a novel approach: fast by using a custom trained NN and uniquely looking output, similar to what a human artist might create by hand.

So your point is that it's cool to misrepresent what things actually are in order to promote them, because if you were honest about what it actually is, nobody would be interested?
Re:Animated ASCII Art for Web Pages on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @02:17PM (#49996684)
> affectation of technical austerity,

How does one learn to write like this? Damn.

Re:Animated ASCII Art for Web Pages on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @02:16PM (#49996660)
The point is that what you've described is no longer a useful definition of "ASCII art". That's now "art with dots". The fact that it's "technically" ASCII is as irrelevant as it is unimpressive.

"ASCII art", defined honestly, means "limited set ASCII art".

Wasn't the main reason that it was really difficult to keep the sandbox secure?

Thank God we made the web so much safer!!

There's at least one industry that reaaaaally got fucked with the sunsetting of Flash: e learning

If you liked Y2K, you're gonna love 2.2f!

If you quote the article, then you are implicitly telling others that you have read it.

But it's pretty clear you have not?

It's much simpler than that: You don't have to be an expert on anything to be a complete dunce in everything else. Hardly rare enough to call it a "phenomenon"
That quote is very interesting, because I think I interpreted it the opposite of you:

"we could be attacked by an infinity of problems, which means that worrying about all of them is statistically unpractical"

Re:Mistral raises €3B on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @02:26AM (#49606248)
Ok, so once again South Park sounds completely deranged when they let reality do the writing.

I miss when "reality is stranger than fiction" was a cool phrase because it didn't happen all the time.

I don't know what Europeans are worried about. You'd have to ask them. Who's dying from "heat warnings"? Are you trying to make my point about rampant idiocy in my country?

If you were assuming that I'm European for some dumb reason, then rest assured I'm not worried about this passing thought on the writing style of a publication I never read.

Thank you for your concern, but I will be alright.

Re:AI Chip Architectures on Monday August 24, 2026 @03:07AM (#49416127)
I am one of the ignorant ones, after all, so I'm probably wrong on this. Wait...
Re:AI Chip Architectures on Sunday August 23, 2026 @09:41PM (#49414379)
Wise people tend not to talk in absolutes, because they always realize they might be wrong.

Ignorant people are always certain.

Re:AI Chip Architectures on Sunday August 23, 2026 @09:40PM (#49414371)
There's no borderline about it.

When the density of italicized words is about 1:1, I'm out.

> This will make you famous, we will write it up and share on news.ycombinator.com. I know you can do it

This part is freaking hilarious.

Re:Art Invented Humanity on Thursday August 13, 2026 @03:40PM (#49290926)
> Is it?

Absolutely. It is the nature of sharing radical ideas with the world to be provocative. The range of reactions in this thread alone supports the "provocative" part, and of course it's deliberate. Otherwise you would be saying that the author is not aware of how uncommon these ideas are, which I would find extremely hard to believe.

> It's not black and white

Yet you are so firmly convinced that it's white that your whole comment only talks about why it can't possibly be black. You haven't shared your opinion, all you have done is try to invalidate the one you responded to.

> most folks here are accountants:

But it's not that black and white, remember?

That's the question that popped up into my head shortly after starting to read the article.

Correlation != Causation
