Re:Why the U.S. can't build icebreaking ships on Saturday September 28, 2024 @07:59AM (#41679685)
Ship building, like most other industries, is unionized in Finland and I would be surprised if it wasn't the same in Germany.
Make money gambling?
More likely that the offense by twatter was more egregious than what the courts are used to.
Pretty far fetched benefits
Re:How to Build Quickly on Sunday August 04, 2024 @05:04AM (#41152105)
At least OpenAI creates more noise than useful output if you try to make it tackle a problem this way.
Sedetary life style combined with lots of sausages, red meat an butter does that to a people. Alcohol is also a huge problem in Finland. Not uncommon for men to drink beer daily.
You lose all credibility with the butter is good nonsense. You can't even buy the unhealthy margarines anywhere. They have not been a thing for decades.
Re:AMD to buy Silo AI for $665M on Wednesday July 10, 2024 @11:55AM (#40928284)
Poro (reindeer in finnish) is specifically developed to be used in Finnish. GPT etc. general models struggle with less used languages. Unfortunately this sale likely means this development will cease.
Re:Americans Have Lost the Plot on Cooking Oil on Saturday June 22, 2024 @12:11PM (#40760065)
More sedetary life. Before most people worked in physically active jobs and past times tended to be more active too. If you work in an office and watch TV when you get home, your energy use is obviously smaller than working in a field for 12 hours.

Apparently more sedetary life does not effect the apetite of most people.

Said the dairy industry.

I'm qurious what that code was doing that could be just moved to the backend. Usually forms have some validation for a better experience with the final validation on the server. Did you get rid of that and just show an error if the submission failed?
Re:The darker side of being a doctor on Monday June 17, 2024 @01:39PM (#40708537)
The article reads like all the little annoyances is what is wrong when the doc is expected to work almost 24/7 for days on end. No amount of software improvement will make any realistic improvements.

It's insane that a truck driver _must_ have 8 hours of sleep before work (they should, not arguing against it), but a surgeon can work with a couple of naps for days.

IntelliJ also has "full line completion" built in that uses a local model. I've found it rather good and it's the only in-IDE code generation I use. It does not get in the way and usually gives me exactly what I want.

Re:The Decline of the User Interface on Monday June 03, 2024 @11:23AM (#40563581)
That is some custom theme they have on their VsCode though. Not a very good example to use.
Re:The Decline of the User Interface on Monday June 03, 2024 @11:20AM (#40563550)
That seems to be an universal issue everywhere.
Re:UI elements with a hand-drawn, sketchy look on Saturday June 01, 2024 @01:54PM (#40547746)
Where are you reading this?
Authorization code? Do you mean authentication?
Having two almost identical terms that mean completely different things is not a very good idea. Also here you are explaining what the words mean, when "login" and "permission" are immediately obvious. Most people don't speak english natively either.
Re:You are lucky Full moon tonight on Sunday May 26, 2024 @12:02PM (#40483195)
Thank you. Unbeliveable that twitter is apparently the best place to post these "long" stories...
TIL almost every european country is in a state of tyrnanny. Also Yemen which is one of the only countries with somewhat similar gun ownership compared to usa (bit less than half as many guns per capita) must be the epitome of freedom and safety.
Re:What UI density means and how to design for it on Tuesday May 21, 2024 @11:19AM (#40429589)
For the vast majority of people, the mobile bank app is far more useful than a desktop oriented web bank. Many (maybe most by now) don't even own a computer.
I got the impression they are focusing on the nordic culture as much as the languages.

>Silo AI and TurkuNLP are dedicated to developing models that not only excel in linguistic performance and inclusivity but are also attuned to local values and cultures.

Then again the culture of Finland is very similar to the other nordics, which looks to be one of the reasons for the project.
Re:A nice way to render Markdown in React apps on Tuesday May 14, 2024 @01:24PM (#40357627)
The blog post content may be static, the page is not.

Why is react overkill here?

Re:Show HN: Pi-C.A.R.D, a Raspberry Pi Voice Assistant on Tuesday May 14, 2024 @04:58AM (#40353035)
I didn't see a mention of languages in the readme. Does this understand languages other than english?
Re:A nice way to render Markdown in React apps on Sunday May 12, 2024 @02:23PM (#40336391)
The page isn't static.
Sounds about as succesfull as people destroying social media by removing or editing their posts. Only a tiny minority actually do anything like that.
Re:A fourteen-day free trial ain’t gonna cut it on Monday May 06, 2024 @12:44PM (#40276586)
Depending on the product, your trial may cost the company a decent amount of money. For example audiobooks are rather expensive to stream (due to publisher pricing, not bandwidth).
Same thing works for email/text alerts that tell you to open a link. I go to the service my self and see if the message is there.
