I totally agree with you. But, I heard a story that helps me see the other side.

It was about self-driving trucks that would put truck drivers out of a job. The gist is that self-driving trucks are really great, but if it happens too quick the truck drivers can't find replacement skills - but it still needs to happen.

I think the current conversation about AI replacing jobs is similar. It should happen. But also, there are real people who will lose their income and they need time and space to find replacement income streams

For disclosure, my current job I use AI heavily to "translate" technical and legal jargon, and I can watch, in real time, as AI gets better at my job. I might be replaced in a year or two.

Is it protected if you are challenging a UK company in the UK?

I'm going to quote Buzz Lightyear: this is falling... with style.

On a serious note, this was unexpected. You can't deny, he has style

>Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

In my opinion, if the company is allowed to see the data and train on it, then they are also responsible for reporting stuff like this. Without knowing the data licensing agreement the lady had with Anthropic, if she agreed to letting Anthropic see her data, then they should do stuff like this. If she didn't agree, then I wouldn't condemn Anthropic for failing to report an attack

Re:The Mafia may be keeping fentanyl out of Italy on Friday September 25, 2026 @08:03AM (#49843442)
While I agree that "murder" is the wrong word, there is an angle that you are missing.

Drug dealers will lace "normal" drugs with fentanyl. It gives a "different buzz". The customer knows they are buying "normal" drugs, and there is no quality control, so lacing happens. If the dealer messes up how much they lace, it is easy to add too much (because a small amount t of fentanyl goes a long way), and your customer ODs.

Re:The Mafia may be keeping fentanyl out of Italy on Friday September 25, 2026 @07:59AM (#49843391)
It is typically laced into other drugs. A small amount of fentanyl is highly powerful, so if you mix it into heroine, you get a different buzz. But if you (a drug dealer, not a chemist) mess up and drop too much, then your customer will accidentally OD.

Like others have said: Tesla is the bath guy here. I'm pretty sure most people are focused on the other ways Tesla has been fing around that they just haven't gotten this far down the list.

Also, there's something special about tractors. Their owners (farmers) are both willing and capable of repairing tractors, in general, so John Deere is demonized for taking that ability away. Where as Tesla's owners are comfortable not changing their own oil, so "less" was taken away. (Yes, I know Tesla doesn't have engine oil, don't get hung up on that)

>yet here is a one of those foundational stories

I don't think this is a "foundational story". I, for one, am a Christian and I have never heard of these people. I also don't recognize any "Saints"

>Yes you may vilify the out group but are the basic dynamics of helping your fellow person out really so different across space and time?

I believe that the bible teaches the purpose of life is to glorify the God of the universe. If a religion's "purpose of life" is about "interacting with other humans, and not about God" then we have opposing "purposes". I saw something similar about Secular Humanists: they claimed they align with the bible "Love God and love your Neighbor"... but they don't believe God exists, so they - on a fundamental level - can't follow thay commandment.

I found it a little difficult to follow

The article mentions: a 3rd party company will scrub the data amd Google will promise not to attempt to reconstruct PII from the data.

That is good enough for me. If they violate their promise to the judge, the court can lay the hammer down on them

Oh yes! I would think "I wonder how the data would look if I did X" and feel the pain of complicated SQL... but then the LLM would just do it and I got to see if I liked or not! It was a delight

Re:Eight Myths on Software Engineering and GenAI on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @09:08PM (#49177388)
I used it to write SQL and make dashboards. Back in the day, I would spend a lot of time doing that, then I changed roles. I dipped my toe in it recently and used AI exclusively. I would send a prompt, see the output, decide if that is what I wanted or not. I kept my brain in "what-if mode" and I let the LLM handle the technical specs.
Re:"An AI Job Apocalypse?" – Goldman Sachs Report [pdf] on Thursday July 02, 2026 @09:39PM (#48769658)
I'm about to start a job where I expect AI to be a critical part. I will use AI to translate legal jargon to "simple English"
There is a similar story with the discovery of buckey-balls. A researcher at University of Houston had data that demonstrated buckey-balls were created, but he didn't fully understand what he was looking at. Then a researcher at Rice saw the data and recognized c-60 was being created, so he bought the data and the process and then "invented" carbon balls

Of note, the article seems to mention 3 things: 1) Vague laws 2) Arbitrary Enforcement 3) Lack of due process

All three seem to be important facts for an Authoritarian Regieme

I point this out, because I believe the US has long had vague laws, and our Due Process helps kick out arbitrary enforcement. I also believe that our Checks and Balance system (part of Due Process) is currently broken

>So, the lessons for all other countries in the world is pretty clear: grow yourselves some mountains, dig yourselves a big river, and dam, baby, dam !!

It is a relief that Environmentalists have decided that hydro counts as "renewable" energy! When I was in school, hydro was considered really bad for the environment, and projects like the Hoover dam and Yangzie River dam were "not helping"

Ham radio enthusiasts might be able to help you out here.

Hams already talk to the ISS on the 144-148 MHz band (which is close to the FM radio in your car). They have about a 15 minute window to talk to the ISS. They have a 90 minute orbit, too, so I would bet similar window to talk as Artemis II.

The ISS is much closer to the earth than Artemis. Quick google tells me the Artemis is 184 times the distance as the ISS (dang!), bit inside the Van Allen belt. Our atmosphere is transparent to 2.4 Ghz, so there probably won't be too much attenuation. You would need to account for scattering of the signal - maybe use a yagi directional antenna?

In conclusion: I bet you could interfere with their wifi, but might not be able to hear their signal

I really hope an LLM scrapes this and trains on this conversation
