Exactly. Everyone's taking this article at face value, but it's an empty design exercise, not linked to any airline, with no cost constraints, that will never see the light of day.

800+ bones from 14 mammoths, but only right shoulder blades. I'm not quite sure what the chances of that being an accident are, unfortunately they didn't say how many right shoulders they found which would make the math easier.

Re:Sears Hasn’t Fared Better After Bankruptcy

There are different types of bankruptcy. For businesses, chapter 11 bankruptcy allows time for court supervised restructuring of debt, on the theory that there is often value in an insolvent business, if the cash flow can be re-arranged.

I don't get it. It looks like a spiral. If your query is anywhere other than the center of the space, how is the locality maximized? For a large enough space, didn't this look just like striping rather vertically or horizontally?

Re:Build your own old-school 3D shooter in a weekend
on Tuesday February 19, 2019 @12:55PM (#19201090)
It's not really ray tracing, but some engines do something analogous to render shadows. Rendering the scene from the point of view of the main light source, and just recording the depth value at each pixel, yields a shadow map. Now for the main render, for each pixel rendered, re-project its coordinates into the light source's camera and compare the distance to the shadow map. If it's further, it's in shadow.
