Waited for it so long but.... still no memory option for more than 32GB. It would be nice to have some kind of a pro model.
Re:Suits Are Better Tech Than Modern Clothes on Thursday October 01, 2026 @02:51AM (#49918514)
I find there is no clothing more uncomfortable than jeans. I simply don’t get their appeal. Washing makes them lose color, their material is rough. Maybe a good choice for workers, but not for wearing them every day. Alternative trouser choices (including those of suits) look better, are usually more comfortable and, at least for me, are good for years.

That said, the other issue of mothern clothing: sneakers… sure there are some high end ones that look amazing. But most of the time they just look cheap. The trend of making the soles white means you almost always look like wearing dirty shoes, as those rubber soles are almost impossible to whiten up again. Compare that to a good goodyear welted shoe: if the leather is good, you can wear them for a decade and just let the soles be replaced every few years. Leather shoes are not too comfortable in the first two weeks of wearing them, but with movement the leather softens and adapts to you. Even paying hundreds for them is ok: you’ll rarely have to replace them.

... just developing for Linux has always had it's own attraction: the one of being free to do what you want.
Re:More German than many Germans on Monday August 03, 2026 @05:16AM (#49153218)
I think there are two aspects. First, quite obvious, everyday life and overall infrastructure is really good. It is clean, well maintained in most places. And there are only few countries where all open landscapes are yours to have. Germany is one big park. You have a small garden? No problem, every forest or unfenced meadow is yours to use and to enjoy. The other aspect, which makes people leave, is the direction in which things are going. It feels like things get a little worse every day. Bureaucracy was never easy in Germany, but since Covid, it feels like certain parts of it have mostly stopped working. All that while they add more taxes, more regulation all the time. This is what drives motivated people out.
Re:The World's 2,400 Castles on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @03:47PM (#48997267)
Interesting, still I miss most castles around me.
Re:The World's 2,400 Castles on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @03:46PM (#48997252)
And if I ever make an exit, the money will buy me a Germany castle! I want to be a good guardian of one.
How is OpenCloud a serious competitor?
Re:EU Inc.: A new harmonised corporate legal regime on Wednesday March 18, 2026 @04:10PM (#47430800)
Will I be able to freely move between EU countries when I own such a company or will Germany tax 340% of the average profit of the last three years for doing so as they do now? People with German GmbH are essentially unable to move anywhere.
There are always companies profiting from war. When ypu sre one of those, take the money, work silently. But being loud about being proud to be part of a war… this is just disgusting.
Re:/e/OS is a complete "deGoogled", mobile ecosystem on Monday March 02, 2026 @04:50AM (#47215797)
How is the experience in practice? What works, what doesn't? Are updates prompt and regular?
This is exactly what I felt the last two times I was in the US.
Re:Amazon confirms 14,000 job losses in corporate division on Tuesday October 28, 2025 @08:36AM (#45732028)
Yeah, finally 1-2 billion profit more on top of the 68 billion they already generate.

Re:F-Droid and Google's Developer Registration Decree on Wednesday October 01, 2025 @01:05AM (#45434406)
Shift has more products to offer. They also have a slightly different concept. For example, the batteries are compatible across device categories (put the phone battery in the tablet keyboard) and the make sure that only ONE type of screw is needed for the complete phone. They also have hardware kill switches on their devices Shift is more or less a non-profit (their type of LLC/Gmbh has a special status) and they have a broader opinion on what „fair“ means.
This was obvious shortly after the Cybertruck was presented to the world and it never seemed like a smart move to let it on the road the way it is.
Re:F-Droid and Google's Developer Registration Decree on Monday September 29, 2025 @03:21AM (#45411132)
... Shift Phones! They even have an installer so you can install a phone OS of your liking (e/OS, Lineage, Ubuntu, etc...).
Book trips from European websites in the future. Prices here need to include everything upfront. Which might lead to situations where you reserve a hotel room in the USA for 1500, but then only pay 1200 at checkout because the remaining 300 are the "resort fee" that will be paid at the hotel. Or take car rental: the cheaper, more complete packages for the USA are often booked in the EU at at better price.
Re:Exit Tax: Leave Germany before your business gets big on Friday August 08, 2025 @02:55AM (#44834268)
The crazy thing is that as a business owner (GmbH/AG) you can’t even move to another EU country any more since 2022. As the owner of such a company it feels like I have become a slave of the government.
Re:Tesla sales drop for fifth month in a row in Europe on Sunday June 29, 2025 @06:25PM (#44417120)
Aside problems with Musk it has to be said that the model lineup of Tesla is poor by today’s Euopean standards. We have lots of models and brands available in all sizes, luxurious and expensive to small and fun. Tesla was a great choice in 2019, but now it is just one among many and it doesn’t boast a great design or interesting imterior.
Re:Radio Garden on Monday June 23, 2025 @05:40AM (#44353915)
What an absolutely lovely webapp! I have loved listening to far away stations since early childhood, when I built antennas in the garden to catch far away waves....

Re:Pope Francis dies aged 88 on Monday April 21, 2025 @04:14AM (#43749483)
God bless him. Religion aside, his encyclicas covering more earthly subjects (Fratelli Tuti, Laudato Si) are really worth to be read. Download and read them as PDF in the language of your choice, no matter what your religious views are.
… in the US and Canada.
… yeah, never give rights to workers! Back to the middle ages again!

Betriebsräte are actually a really sane measure once you think about it. And the more intelligent managers take them as an asset.

Re:The Lost Art of Research as Leisure on Wednesday March 19, 2025 @06:33AM (#43410226)
Currently re-visiting and re-describing old tumulus tombs in my area where the last survey was decades ago and where no current description exists. Also, I found tombs via Lidar maps that have been unaccounted before and I am cataloguing them. All that as a hobby and as a member of an association of local history.

Things can be done and should!!

Re:Carlos Slim Cancels $22B in Starlink Orders on Tuesday March 11, 2025 @07:20AM (#43331326)
It has far less potential to be sold in millions than the Model 3. The cybertruck is built ignoring certification standards in many jurisdictions (no way of legally drive on in Europe). Then the design is super controversial. Compare that to a Model 3 that is sold worldwide and that has a design which is acceptable to many.
Libreoffice Draw is an often overlooked application that I've been using for years to create one-page/two-page designed documents. It has become quite powerful over the years.

Also, you might want to have a look at the open source "Scribus". I never liked it too much, but it gets a lot of jobs done.
