After that comment - you very well may be my spirit animal.
Re:Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds on Friday December 06, 2019 @05:49PM (#21726806)
The record mentioned was my introduction to the War of the Worlds. I had a much older cousin who played this album at least once per day for months. As I grew older I read the story and the various adaptations of the story and it has always been a favorite of mine. I still have great memories of the music and the story as it was told by the album - the standouts to me are "the chances of anything coming from Mars is a million to one they said" and "OOOOOLAAAAAH". That album may be what tipped me towards science fiction as well now that I think about it.
Re:Why the Cool Kids Are Playing Dungeons and Dragons on Monday April 08, 2019 @11:34AM (#19606140)
I started playing AD&D in seventh grade a very long time ago. The cool kids have always played Dungeons and Dragons. Best distraction and creative thinking platform ever.

I watched that show "7 Days Out" specifically for the Cassini mission. It did not disappoint. There were feelings involved.
MAFANG?
My number one pointer would be: Don't be afraid to scale either the routine or the exercises done.
As did I and the excellent rabbit hole that it led to.

I work on St. Simons Island and enjoy the environment completely; great place for a vacation. I would also like to plug Jekyll island which is just south over the bridge - there is a fee to get onto the island and passes are available. Beaches, a water park, hotels and a largish island to explore. Good times.

The horses roam all over the place - I can nearly guarantee you that you won't miss them. They are everywhere! As to where to go and what to see - choose one of the trails that hits the beach. Lots to see!
Especially prior to working with Disney.
And that is really what I was hoping for - maybe something that I'd not heard of or contemplated. Not even a suggestion.
I've never been able to tell when my blood sugar was high or normal just by how I feel alone.
Even simpler: don't want to be tracked? Don't have a mobile phone.
'Our military is already trying to pick a fight'

Our military doesn't get to pick the fights. They get to fight the fights.

The US Military has zero hubris in and of itself. The 'US Military' has so many moving parts and sub-cultures, not including all the support systems, contractors and so on. On a unit by unit basis; it is just a job for many many people. You might be talking about the big picture 'US Military' - it doesn't wield itself either.
That is a great thought process that I agree with but haven't been able to put it in words. I ascribe it to 'hindsight being crystal clear'. Of course it is. There always seems to be dots that can be connected once 'something' happens - regardless of what that 'something' is. But until that 'something' happens, the dots are without meaning and who cares about connecting them.

Could not guess my name either.

Thanks for that link - I never would have come across that 'organically'. Now I have some bedtime reading as well.
I had so hoped that at one point Fry's would buy out all the Radio Shack locations and make them out to be Frontier Fry's Locations that was more tuned to hyper local Maker Scenes.

I use it for work and personal everyday.
Re:Japan to buy at least 20 more F-35A stealth fighters on Wednesday February 21, 2018 @02:37PM (#16432262)
This all assumes that the aircraft even leave the ground. First strike to cripple combat capability will most certainly be utilized among other things. The deck will be stacked, so to speak, for overall victory. Don't assume there will be a classic force on force engagement.

And hopefully it will also destroy RDS connectivity and mangle printer drivers. 1703 and 1709 did both quite convincingly.
Re:In-N-Out managers earn triple the industry average on Tuesday January 23, 2018 @10:04AM (#16214079)
I've thought this as well - location might play into all of this as well. I live in a relatively small county in southeast Georgia and all of the fast food joints here start great but end up abysmal simply due to the caliber of people that are working there. Pay? Location? Manager? Over all framework with all of the above applied as cause? Not sure. Recently several places here (Waffle House and Burger King) are super short staffed because they simply cannot find anyone to fill the positions with the pay advertised. That kind of thing here is becoming more of a problem.
Re:The Oversimplification of Results and Hard Work on Tuesday January 16, 2018 @11:42AM (#16159501)
Yep. Sounds like that company did her a huge favor in hind sight for not hiring her. If that is how HR is handled, cannot imagine the rest of that operation being much better.
Or. The Zuma payload is working exactly as intended and will be forgotten in a weeks time once this fades from daily news. Might be a good time to reinforce your tinfoil hats.

Re:Ask HN: What is the point of encryption at rest? on Wednesday December 20, 2017 @12:57PM (#15972001)
At rest encryption would not prevent a breach from happening per se. The data the breach reveals however, maybe less than accessible due to the encryption. The data could be accessed but not easily read. That is the hope anyhow.
