News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Sorry to be blunt, but you have no idea how "Targeting" works on Advertising/Telephone co.

When Verizon/Att/Tmo/etc sells your information to Advertising companies, they will "infer" your identity. They do not care if phone SIM have your ID associated. That ID is built from traffic.

If they see DNS requests to real state sites, they may put you in a bucket that says "high income", if they see searches (via DNS hijack to when you search by your addressbar like tmo does) for things like fastfood breakfast delivery, up in the "low income" bucket you go. Also, it will always have your Phone number.

Then those Advertising companies "enrich" this data with data from google or others, and can pin point you by email plus all the correlated data. Happy that you have facebook two factor auth to your SMS now?

It shocks me that people in this forum are completely oblivious to Tracking and think that the aborted "think of the children" law that requires you present an ID to buy a phone line has any importance...

So, to conclude, the traffic here is observed by the proxing entity, by the tel co, etc.

you say that until some terrorist screw a bomb to his head and kill YOUR CHILDREN!!!!1!!
unless they sell it all in soda. it's the highest profit margin you can find at such places.

but yeah, i don't think this is the best explanation. But now i can't stop picturing Ronald macdonald sitting at some backroom like vitor corleone.

they will not move a finger. unless you say perpetrator 1 proceeded to kick a cat.

The microsoft controlled board already made sure the founders have no voice in the company anymore.
Re:Google’s Marissa Mayer Tapped as Yahoo’s Chief on Monday July 16, 2012 @04:55PM (#4252613)
i'd disagree with the 'no matter who comes in'... but in real life, who comes in is decided by who is already in.

not talking about tax+shipping here. but even on alibaba.com those boards sell for $50. unless you buy 1000s

on dealextreme it's a little more than 50 (but they include shipping in the price)

Re:Angry hacker threatened ISP… with an axe on Monday July 16, 2012 @12:41PM (#4251411)
and the definition of hacker just went full circle.
tomorrow: handcuff manufacturers call the DMCA over reverse engineering and subsequent pirating of their keys copyright.

everyone with a key is considered suspect. EFF suggest you walk around with several keys to your neighbors houses to enable a doubt defense.

Feds waste millions of tax dollars on 3D printers crackdowns trhu the country, since they can't be used for anything else other than pirating handcuffs keys copyrighted material. Seizes thingverse servers and demand CEO extradition.

$50 is the minimum price those things go for if you buy in quantity.

resellers for low quantity either will charge way more ($70~$99) or will ship from china and it will take weeks~months to get it.

but my monitor does not have the real DPI the label on it's back says... configuring by DPI is moot.

i read a little more on the link you provided... and the closest to the gimp old way of doing that is putting the width and height of the viable area of the monitor in mm. think that might work rather well if it's correctly implemented.

NaCl could make this feasible...
Re:DIY B&B on Friday July 13, 2012 @10:12PM (#4242863)
The point about neighbors is moot.

i hate all of mine. But the hotels have nothing against them. so i will have to live with them. that's life.

If you could choose neighbors... the world would be very empty because everyone would be living alone.

Re:DIY B&B on Friday July 13, 2012 @10:09PM (#4242859)
This reminds me when everyone was driving drunk, and there was already laws that made that illegal, but the limit was something like 3 glasses of beer.

instead of simply enforcing it, they changed the law to be zero limit AND enforced it.

this is the same idiocy.

trashing a place is already illegal. Disturbing the peace is already illegal. Reducing your neighbor property value is already illegal (our intern complains he keep getting citations for not cutting the grass ...a $300 fine)

Name ONE thing this law does that wasn't illegal before. ONE. I challenge you.

Re:DIY B&B on Friday July 13, 2012 @10:03PM (#4242841)
i think that was illegal BEFORE that law...

may i interest you in some Bear Patrol Tax?

At least they won't get fat! Those grandparents...

1 release new api to validate inapp purchases
   2 nobody uses it
3 hire Russian hacker to show how to exploit old api. Everyone fears Russian hackers.
   4 ???
   5 profit
How this affect things like buying offline maps for gps?

Also that page has an invalid ssl cert :)

That's not the point of the article. If it's badly used or not is not discussed.

The point is that even if it could cure cancer, it's not possible to be done on any display.

Re:A 12pt Font Should Be The Same Size Everywhere on Thursday July 12, 2012 @08:52PM (#4237672)
People may want to see pictures of products in 1:1 scale in webstores. I would.
Re:A 12pt Font Should Be The Same Size Everywhere on Thursday July 12, 2012 @08:50PM (#4237659)
Gimp had the only cheap effective, backward compatible solution:

There was a setting that showed a ruler in the screen, you could scale it to match a ruler you were holding against the screen.

It disappeared after a while...

Thanks for giving me yet something else tocurse browsers for.
Re:A 12pt Font Should Be The Same Size Everywhere on Thursday July 12, 2012 @08:35PM (#4237610)
What? That is not the case with any browser. Nor with any software as the article points out.

Would be awesome if it was...

Re:A 12pt Font Should Be The Same Size Everywhere on Thursday July 12, 2012 @04:43PM (#4236682)
that's what they do already. i'm totally missing your point. How does this not happen with px? and with em and % being also based on px...
Re:A 12pt Font Should Be The Same Size Everywhere on Thursday July 12, 2012 @04:41PM (#4236670)
i was fighting with the same thing the other day... then i realized, i do not look at my 24" monitor at the same distance then i look at my 4" phone screen.

So, which size should the font be if i'm designing for both those screens? pt sure isn't the answer.

this being only tangentially related to the topic :) so, back on topic, yes, i wholeheartedly agree that pt should mean what it mean. it's just retarded that it's not. and you are not even accounting for TVs which cut random portions of the displayed image for no reason, making this even harder to calculate the real dpi.

"Normally ODROID-X consumes about 1A [at 5V] in most cases. But it can go up to 3A if you use some USB hard disk drives in parallel."

put that into a ms natural keyboard, a LCD screen in the center, call it Fuchi Cyberdeck I, and sell it to me for 10x more!
Re:Vim Creep on Thursday July 12, 2012 @04:17PM (#4236534)
ctrl+f,bar,esc,ctrl+shift+right,foo

i think it's easier to grab the mouse, dlb click bar, foo

with vim, it's still easier than grabbing the mouse. that's the litmus test of text editor interface effectiveness. the mouse is awesome, hard to beat. so if your editor beats it, game on!
