Uniswap is a decentralized crypto currency exchange. Aave is a lending protocol where you can get a collateralized loan. There is many others. In fact those cryptocurrency are decentralized apps themselves. All of this combined this millions of transactions every day.

Finance is a well established use case for blockchain.
Stripe do hold money on account of other people. When a customer pay, it does hold the money sent by the customer until your forward it to your account.
I'm very disappointed by my kindle battery.I need to charge it back every two weeks. And I'm not someone who read a lot.

If you think that government will give up (should they?) on all that tax money, you're probably fooling yourself...
That's why I'm so optimistic about our ability to solve climate change. Solving climate change is more more a way to be profitable.

Re:81% of IT teams directed to reduce or halt cloud spending on Wednesday October 19, 2022 @06:28AM (#33260049)
Why to charity? Give it to them directly. That being said, you'll create bad incentives: for a team to create badly optimized infra cost then to reduce it and cash in the difference.
Re:Godard Was Cinema on Wednesday September 21, 2022 @11:46AM (#32926818)
It's strange how this man his revered by a few cinema nerds and despised or ignored by the vast silent majority. I found the few movies of him I watched just plain boring. Maybe this article explain why: because to appreciate Godard, you need to deeply understand the code of cinema. I don't know them, couldn't care less and people don't care either unless they are cinema nerds. But if you understand cinema code, you can understand how he virtuously play with them.
Re:The Ethereum merge is done on Thursday September 15, 2022 @08:55AM (#32851127)
I'm on the opposite side of yours. I believe that blockchain has a bright future as a currency, but not in logistic. Blockchain money is great because its inflation is very predictable, everyone can use it without permission (versus the slow banking system). I don't believe in blockchain in logistic because database corruption has never been an issue, the problem has always been that people did not insert any data or corrupted data in the database. Blockchain only insure that the database won't be corrupted (not that the data it uses are correct), so it doesn't solve the main issue of logistic.

Do the wealthy really have to feel sorry for being wealthy when others aren't?
I came here to say that.
Since most developers started programming because they dreamed of becoming a game developer, you should create a course to create a game engine by yourself. It sure would gain a lot of success.
Maybe they should make one course free to use like create your own git and access to other would be payed.
If it's done on my spare time, I don't have time to create proper test suite, proper CI... This is done for me by CodeCrafters. It helps save a lot of time.
Re:The Danger of Journaling Is Introspection on Tuesday July 26, 2022 @11:23AM (#32239629)
Damn, my experience with journaling is so different! I write whatever comes to my mind, usually some existential turmoil or insatisfaction. Just writing them make me feel so much better. It help the bad feeling go away and grow over it. Over time, those small changes adds up and I really think I'm someone very different than someone who I wouldn't without it.
Dating apps is still much more convenient.
Re:Central African Republic Adopts Bitcoin as Legal Tender on Thursday April 28, 2022 @08:56AM (#31191877)
Money is trust. For a government to print money, he need people and worldwild financial institutions to trust the government. I don't think anyone trust the CAR government, so they can't print money.

Seems like an interesting project. It's probably impossible to fight against git nowday though. The first mover advantage of git is just too hard to overcome despite all the flaws of git.
