Seems like every celebrity and talk show host was pushing NFT's, be it Kardasians, Kimmel, Fallon, even Bill Murray released a collection 1 month ago. Ultra stars like Tom Brady to Mark Cuban were investing and (still) talking about crypto companies they are heavily invested in. Half the superbowl ads this year were advocating for people to waste money on crypto.
Looks like another polished scam to take advantage of ignorant users, or 'degens' in crypto vernacular.
I wasted a year of my life working for a crypto company, I've actually committed code to Ethereum through the Geth project. I learned it's all a casino of completely useless money moving schemes.
What makes even ENS cool tech? The sole purpose of those .eth domains is to receive crypto, ohh and make the founders extremely wealthy. Why did they need to launch an ENS coin, other than to dump on the public when it was 5x the current price.
How do I send USDC within 5 mins? I would have to 1) Open an account on a crypto exchange app
2) Go through the KYC process and hookup the same wells fargo account to buy USDC.
3) Purchase USDC, usually while paying a fee. And then still wait the day for the funds to be sent from WF to the exchange.
4) Send USDC to address, while also paying a fee.
There is a reason international remittances haven't worked as a use case, for ex Coinbase just closed down that entire project. How would immigrants who get paid in Cash buy USDC and how would their family in Mexico or El Salvador be able to convert that USDC into local spendable currency. I hate western union but it works better than any crypto money sending service.
They tried their best to make it enjoyable but I am so much happier in my home office with no background noise, no need to get dressed up, and being able to define my own schedule (I eat lunch at 3-4pm and bay tech orgs serve lunch at noon with all the smells disturbing me).
I was not doing that type of work so I'm not sure what type of software was used but I think it had multiple open source programs available.
I work in security (at a crypto/web3 company!) and the opposite line of thought prevails in the field, most security experts argue that biometric data is fundamentally insecure especially for auth. A quick google search shows a lot of research backing that, from universities to major tech companies.
>Using ZK-Snarks with biodata allows you to verify, profit and protect your data. Instead of handing it to some entity to do god knows with.
How is this going to happen exactly? The requesting entity, like a doctor, asks for medical history. I use my retina to verify, and thanks to ZK-Snarks they have no knowledge of my retina data. How are they going to get the blood pressure readings? They need the data to analyze and understand. And what stops them from saving it in their own DB?
Similar with many of these web3 products. Think, uniswap or defisaver. Ok you can use ZK to auth, they have no idea what wallet address is connected. But as soon as you use it they know exactly who and what you transferred and traded, all stored in a DB.
It is not a dystopian hellhole like you are describing, it's not even as bad as the Tenderloin.
Most of my college peers moved to Austin or Dallas where cost of living and housing is extremely different. Austin median home price is now $575k in the city and $480k for the 5 county metro region.
Growing up in a working class family (dad worked at a kitchen, mom as a part time hair dresser) we always had a maid from mexico come in once a week for $60 for ~8hours. She cleans, does laundry, and even cooks a meal and makes a big pot of beans during her time. In Austin I pay $150 for a 2hr cleaning session with no extras.
Several replies are addressing your wrong points but I had to bring this up: https://www.npr.org/sections/alltechconsidered/2015/01/16/37...
The effects you are describing are those of sativa strains, know for the 'head high' and creativity boost.
Human greed is too powerful for us to ignore the negative impacts and it is destined to destroy humanity. I work in a related space so I don't agree but it is interesting to think about.
I've been in offensive security for ~10 years now and am a staff at one of these billion dollar SV tech companies now.
If you want to do pentesting (though i prefer the team offensive security) my advice is to learn the basics of web app security with something like portswigger's course https://portswigger.net/web-security.
Since most tech is really API's and web apps this course would be able to get you productive and probably a jr level skillset. OSCP is also good but I find network hacks are not as applicable today thanks to the cloud, though the thinking process and creative puzzle solving could be worth it.
I would particpate in as many CTF type challenges as possible (http://www.xssgame.com) then apply to jobs. Make it clear you are a junior but good at Burp and web testing.
Good luck!
That skillset is nearly forgotten. Sure there are great instructional youtube videos and instagram masons who are brilliant but the vast talent pool is gone. We struggled to find someone to patch a giant rock wall earlier this year. I understand why people don't want to learn it and haul rocks and bricks everyday but that knowledge base is on it's way out.
The sharpest shooters can get a few as they scatter, they are damn smart and very capable.
But the text makes it seem like they would position cameras toward your face and do analysis on impairment indicators like eye movement.
In 2021, the 6-7 in my neighborhood which have sold for record prices are sitting empty with 'for lease' signs. Checking the property records they are all some under a different named LLC.
And to your second statement, there are plenty of <1000sqft homes, I'm Austin and in my zipcode they start at $600k.
Much better but not cheap. Houston's median home price is $295 Austin's in $550.
Payments and transactions are not the value, fintech automation with Defi is where the money is.

This is absolutely false. Fox news is practically obsessed with her[0]. I heard various talking heads on all types of media talking about how she didn't know anything about 'business', most mocking her past job as a bartender.
I'm not a huge fan of any politician but you probably picked the worst example, she can't post a tweet without the right wing media machine raising hell. During the last election she was also primaried hard, and some of the biggest criticisms were here anti-business/amazon stances.

As a former San Franciscan that has lived in Austin for 10 years what do you think are these issues?
Sure there is a lot of old school residents that don't want any change and fight every code change and infrastructure upgrade but the new residents are doing stuff like passing the new rail props. The city has built more housing in the last year than SF has in 5 years.
Another thing is the exploding homeless population, the city is so angry that we got enough signatures to put the camping ban on the ballot. A certain district actually voted for a far right wing candidate whose major platform was to get rid of the homeless. That is not something that would ever happen in SF.
