You're monitoring all the available channels and then correlating them together?
Why do all the plans on the homepage have hip roofs?
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (June 2026) on Monday June 15, 2026 @09:41AM (#48541150)
I'm building a tool that helps small volunteer orgs. manage their property/facility. Something to replace the filing cabinet, text threads and email inboxes that get lost when your volunteer treasurer or retired admin moves on. Specifically building for my wife and I to take care of our house and for our small church who manages a building. The idea is you take a picture of the plumbers invoice, forward the insurance policy, or write down the last time the roof was inspected all in one place. Most CMMS are too heavy for a small org. and having "that one guy" setup a process is too brittle. https://www.myplacekeeper.com/
this is a circular reasoning fallacy
Hi! I got stuck in London. I walked around to a bunch of train stations at around 10PM on Monday night and there was nothing showing up in the timetables. Same for the next morning. I then walked to Portsmouth and the Portsmouth harbor also showed no boats. The API call was https://geo-racers.com/api/boats?from_id=43128&time=07:02&da... seems odd to me?

I was homeschooled. I'm doing the same with my children.

I'm building a site that tracks the price of power tool batteries (currently Milwaukee and Dewalt). It's been an itch I've wanted to scratch for a while so I would know when the battery was a good price vs. the Ah rating. The prices are scraped nearly daily and plotted on a price-per-ah vs. total Ah chart.

All my kids listen to those audiobooks on repeat. Narrated (and sung!) buy the author.
Does your employer call you a part-time worker or are you a consultant for those hours?

I didn’t see that calculation anywhere in the article, nor error bars, no discussion of the Global Pandemic that happened during the time period in question.

Just a note that they're comparing 5 data points to 2 datapoints and advocating for life-altering policy change.
Re:Ask HN: My son might be blind – how to best support on Thursday September 19, 2024 @10:37AM (#41592390)
North Carolina has a school for the blind that was established back in mid 1800's. I believe they support all ages - https://www.governormorehead.net/
It's a state government restricting minors ...
Re:Reading for Pleasure Helps Kids’ Brain Development on Tuesday September 05, 2023 @02:54PM (#37396113)
Ive spent hundreds of hours reading aloud to my kids. It's a big investment but I believe it's almost certain you'll stumble upon something that will catch their attention. It's also about family culture - if you establish the habit of reading at a certain time of day (we do it after dinner / before bed) then it's easy to stick with that over turning to other things to fill the time.

Can you elaborate? What is 'it's' that's already happened?
Re:How to Make Good Small Games on Thursday April 20, 2023 @05:49PM (#35646860)
I spent hundreds of hours as a kid building small games like this with Klik n Play, then Klick and Create, which turned into The Games Factory and now lives on as Clickteam Fusion! It had a simple image editor and event based programming system that was accessible to a kid and still pretty sophisticated. Huge influence on my later programming career. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clickteam
Re:DocuSign to cut workforce by 9% as part of restructuring plan on Wednesday September 28, 2022 @01:44PM (#33010845)
I'd guess a significant portion are low(er)-wage technical support folks. When the partners at Hamlin-Hamlin-McGill can't remember their Docusign password they need someone to call.

I once had a buddy walk up behind me while I was at a urinal and smack the back of my head - one of the most infuriating things ever. Ever since I'm hyper aware of people behind me at the urinal.

Re:More Americans are saying they’re ‘vaxxed and done’ on Monday January 10, 2022 @02:26PM (#29880375)
Honest question, but don't we still lack the denominator of the ratio:

(people that have covid and end up in the hospital) / (those who have covid)
?

Instead, we're looking at the ratio:

(vaccinated people who have covid and go to the hospital) / (unvaccinated people who have covid and go to the hospital)
But, those are different types of information.
> [it is] essential to a child's development to be part of a social classroom experience

2nd generation homeschooler here. Of the hundreds of home school families I've known over the last 30-ish years I don't know any that don't have their children take classes together in some form or another.

The question is how much do children need to be in a "social classroom experience."

“He actually did well” - how would he know that? He also wasn’t hired.
We restrict our kids to 30 min /day of screens. Try telling them it's not worth it. They are absolutely rabid about it.

Can we all agree that bland job descriptions are useless or is there some reason they all essentially look identical?

Hey David, if you're on here, how many millions did Google give you to switch?

A fun anecdote from my wife: 6 years ago she reviewed a nursing bra on Amazon. Gave it five stars. Fast forward to now and she when pulls up her review history that same review (with the exact text!) now appears on a consumer electronics device.
EFF wrote a rebuttable to the original broad proposal in 2019. It's still makes for interesting reading: "Don't Play in Google's Privacy Sandbox" https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2019/08/dont-play-googles-priv...
If anyone is curious, here is the mall in question: https://goo.gl/maps/pdJPjXz1zbrNmXSn8

I grew up down the road from this place.

IF your company is paying to preserve it. At my not-very-tiny employer we only pay for something like 1 year of retention. I have no idea if that's a legal or financial decision, but either way it seems like a dumb one.
