Contrast this with Iceland:
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-05-01/iceland-prenatal-test..."In Iceland, upwards of 85 per cent of women elect to have prenatal testing, and close to 100 per cent of pregnancies where Down syndrome is diagnosed are terminated.
Denmark isn't far behind, with a termination rate of 98 per cent."
>>@avazhi Intelligence is a highly multidimensional thing. IQ as a general measure of intelligence is an antiquated concept.
Yeah, this isn't remotely true. It's probably the most reliable trait in all of behavioural science.
I agree that there is kind of a snowball effect where bad schools get worse due to property taxes.
I also think there is an unwillingness to let people fail.
I think it depends on the total cost and the size of the company. A 30 person estate agent probably won't clone a SAAS CRM and create a support team. A company the size of JP Morgan might.
Yes, but I think he also showed that being a nerd didn't necessarily mean being weak. He could fight and he was physically brave.
I think Picard was a good example of positive masculinity. Strong and not a wimp without being overbearing or a bully.
Yeah. I don't agree with their polices, but at least Caroline Lucas (previous leader) was credible. Zack, not so much.
They're tapes from the time. I think the check is to see if the 40-50 year old tapes match the 40-50 year old transcripts.
I don't think the Dems are still the party of the working class.
Well, "they" did their best to stop Bernie running.
Well "A policy of parties that currently identify as left of centre" - UK Labour, US Democrats etc
Yes, which baffles me why being pro-immigration is a left wing position, given that it harms workers so much.
Oh yes. I mean ICE could raid some of those big meat packing factories tomorrow, but obviously that would cut down on donations.
>> The idea that illegal immigrants need to be deported (and not have a path to legal residency) comes from a view that those jobs should go to American citizens
Isn't that obvious? I mean I can't imagine why this would be even remotely controversial.
You'd think, wouldn't you?
Your perspective though depends on thinking the economy/money/whatever is a zero sum game, and if a person's wealth goes up, they must have taken it from somewhere else. In general, wealth is generated by growing the economy.
This isn't to say I don't think some companies/individuals/shareholders have absolutely taken the piss compared to wage earners.
Yeah. Wealth Inequality is a trojan horse for socialism.
The point should be to raise the floor, not put in place a ceiling.
Yeah, and admittedly you need to pick your problem domain sensibly.
i.e. you wouldn't vibe code your general ledger, but I'd guess Confluence is pretty vulnerable.
I was thinking we should have our own internal saas-pocalypse where I work, or at least threaten one to our vendors.
It used to be that vendors could tie their cost to the value they provide, but now their cost is more correlated to the token spend to reverse engineer and re-implement them (using appropriate clean room controls etc). If their cost goes to far above the AI-driven re-write, they're more likely to get jettisoned (absent some other moat not included purely in the technology).
I'm sure we can all think of products that charge a fair whack in license fees, but would not be massively difficult to re-implement (or at least for the subset of features actually used).
I guess people can have different views. I'd rather have power generation concentrated in a few spots and have more fields and forests.
For reference, the Birmingham/West Midlands conurbation is 671 sq km.
Not really. Solar is improving, but in terms of area required it's not even close to comparable to nuclear. You'd need 668 sq kilometres of solar panel (67k hectares) to match the same generation capability as Hinkley C (175 hectares).
Yes, they're free to posture.
You seem to have never heard of a "plea deal".
But yeah, a right winger with a Washington DC jury stands a great chance. It would be like putting Biden on trial in Florida.
Yes, agreed. Rupert Lowe seems to have the right idea. Reform seem to want to be part of the omni-party.
