Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Thursday October 29, 2026 @09:22AM (#50288627)
There are real differences and experiences between heavy users and occasional users, voters and moderators, question posters and contributors. Unless you're careful it's very easy to develop a culture of gatekeeping that is off putting to a broader community. SO wasn't able to successfully steer between the sometimes competing interests of these groups.
It would be interesting to do this to the Epstein files as well.
Re:Upcoming Critical PHP Security Release on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @01:26AM (#50176413)
What are you gonna say when your favourite language gets a vulnerability report with an AI generated exploit chain?
Re:Maybe There Was an Egg Cartel After All on Monday October 19, 2026 @11:31AM (#50153660)
She was quite active, which is more than we can be said about some of her predecessors. Also she was hated by the right people, that's always a good sign.
I just say "can we skip that?" No one has thrown a fit yet.
Re:Gen Z Is the First Generation Dumber Than Their Parents on Sunday October 18, 2026 @10:33AM (#50141457)
Perhaps they were right then as well in some sense.
Re:Passkeys Are Not a Trap on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @05:54PM (#50095941)
But what I don't understand is how are passkeys improving what Apple provides here. You could have just done this with passwords and had all the ecosystem benefits you outlined.
Re:Sumatra File Manager on Thursday October 08, 2026 @11:50PM (#50015784)
If it's half as good as the author's other project, Sumatra PDF then it will be amazing. Definitely going to check this out.
Did the Palestinian children sniped in the head and chest have it coming as well?
Re:SAML: A Fractal of Bad Design on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @06:26PM (#49809121)
Have you kept up with the improvements in the latest PHP versions?
Re:Anecdotally, Programmers Dislike "Reduce" on Monday September 14, 2026 @05:09PM (#49704055)
I've always like reduce myself, didn't realize others had a negative attitude towards it.
This is ahistorical nonsense. White immigrants are perfectly capable of retaining native prejudices. Localized tensions among Eastern European immigrants in the earlier 20th century have been documented. And any immigrant group regardless of race will align with American culture a few generations in.

If by not fitting in you mean that they will continue to look different and retain some links to their ancestral culture then sure.

Re:Carney's Bid to Make Canada an 'Associate Member' of the EU on Saturday September 12, 2026 @11:53PM (#49679861)
Maybe Carney needs to post the kind of macho memes that Trump does for you to take him seriously.
The AI is watching.

Clicked on some his other posts...and yeah.

He essentially advocates for a society that has the attributes that he accuses oral culture of: conservative, repetitive, static, lacking innovation.

Re:Corporate America Is Getting Hooked on Open-Source A.I on Saturday September 05, 2026 @11:41AM (#49577622)
For most people around the world America is more of a threat than China. Heck for most Americans the American government is more of a threat than the Chinese government.

Model serving and inference will be trivial in the long term, right now it's a real choke point. Being able to do that with domestic chips is an important win.
Re:How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been? on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @06:01PM (#49528841)
Mo Bitar over on YouTube does the grumpy AI skeptic routine in a much more entertaining fashion.

I hate everything this guy argues for.
Re:AWS Acquires DuckDB on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @11:01PM (#49459070)
I fear this is the end of the rapid pace of innovation that we've seen from DuckDb.

"AWS has committed to supporting the continued development of DuckDB and its wider community for the long term."

Those are just words man.

Re:Iranian hackers shut down UK power plant for 4 days on Sunday August 23, 2026 @12:21PM (#49410070)
Are you being diliberately obtuse? The U.S under Bush Jr. called them a member of the Axis of Evil. In response they called themselves and their allies the Axis of Resistance.
In general any deal with the other party is introducing last minute changes is one to walk away from.

And specifically any deal made with the U.S under Trump has no credibility, just ask Iran.

Progressive taxation.

For instance: developing citizens who demonstrate critical thinking, responsibility, organization, independence, collaboration, initiative and self-regulation.

Not all of these are easily measurable, but all contribute to a prosperous and free society.

"Red Plenty" the book being discussed in the article is well worth a read.
Re:Ask HN: Good IMAP Email Clients? on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @08:12PM (#49354789)
Before giving up on Thunderbird I would suggest asking AI to help you debug the configuration.
Right. A lot of people have been fired for supporting Palestinians. Not just in America either.
