Re:Why AWS loves Rust, and how we’d like to help on Tuesday November 24, 2020 @01:10PM (#25201150)
In my opinion data processing / ML / database development is one of the best use case for rust. You want stable memory management and performance . This is still something than often times is done in C/C++. There are several promising technologies being developer in rust in that space; tikv (key-value store), materialize (steaming DB), arrow/parquet has a rust implementation, Toshi (Elasticsearch), Tantivy (Lucene), etc
Thanks for your comment! My search came to the same result... And I was believing a php framework was beating all other frameworks
Imagine the merge
Re:PostgreSQL is the worlds’ best database on Friday April 03, 2020 @04:38PM (#22773728)
Ah yes! Optimize early, that's what my teachers always told me to do. /s
There is toshi-search https://github.com/toshi-search/Toshi who is trying to be a drop-in replacement for Elasticsearch. My understanding is that Bayard is trying to achieve the same use cases as Elasticsearch but with a different API
Re:Why Aren't There C Conferences? on Wednesday November 21, 2018 @03:07PM (#18505604)
I very much like your answer. And I now realize why disliked PyCon that much. There are so much things that can be done in python that I don't necessarily care about. Language is not the most important thing, what I do with it is.

I much more prefer going to a conference about let's say, web dev or machine learning. Once at the conference, I might prefer going to a talk that use python because I know this language better.

Re:Why startups are leaving Silicon Valley on Thursday August 30, 2018 @09:39AM (#17876582)
I agree for the vibe. But it's not even close to the number of startups or VC funding.
Re:I Quit My Job to Live on Donations to Zig on Thursday June 07, 2018 @12:35PM (#17257458)
Since Zig is pretty unknown language, I would actually buy swag. Cap/t-shirt. It's not like a monthly donation but if it can get you extra cash...
I tried going from a MBP at home to a ThinkPad last month (bought the T470p). The problem is that at work I'm still on a MBP.

In Linux, I tried to get my T470p to emulate the MBP key mapping but was unable to get all apps, terminal to work properly. I really thought there would be a low level tool (kernel maybe) to switch Alt with Ctrl.

After 1 week of trying, I sent the T470p back...

Not a Star Wars theme but the one that worked the best for me was Ravel's Bolero.

I even think that this biases could be a base of a good AI. Just code this biases in and your almost good to go!
Re:Quebec passes law to regulate Uber on Saturday June 11, 2016 @07:15AM (#11883043)
The 200K is not paid to the government but to the previous owner of the plate. So yes the price is dictated by demande/offer but you are true that by restricting the offer the are artificially raising the price of the plate.

When Uber started operating in Quebec the price of a plate in Montreal dropper to around 160K. That was the major point of dispute, since taxi drivers usually get loans to buy these plates knowing that they can re-sell then anytime. Uber changed that.

The names looks alot like HyperDex (http://hyperdex.org/). I found it weird that the HyperDex DB was pivoting to full stacked Web Apps.

Makes me think of txt-sushi (http://keithsheppard.name/txt-sushi/). Can be pretty useful instead of using awk.
