Re:Microsoft Clipchamp on Saturday August 27, 2022 @08:45AM (#32618361)
That's literally the experience that you get when you buy a new computer with Windows.
Re:Microsoft Clipchamp on Saturday August 27, 2022 @08:44AM (#32618351)
>Clipchamp is created worldwide, but we're headquartered in Brisbane/Meanjin, Australia, on the traditional lands of the Turrbal and Yuggera Peoples.

>We acknowledge the traditional custodians of country, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

Imagine these levels of guilt.

"lofi girl" is more like a generic brand now... you put that in the search box of youtube and there are dozens of channels with the same kind of music and design... no one cares about getting "the real deal"
Re:I Love My PinePhone on Friday August 26, 2022 @04:19PM (#32612287)
As far as I know pinephone is a phone for software tinkerers.
Re:German digital signage ban prompts confusion on Friday August 26, 2022 @05:51AM (#32605249)
Saving energy means stopping growth. The West stopping growth while China, India, etc. grow uncontrollably because they don't give a crap about the stupid climate plight will be our downfall.
Re:German digital signage ban prompts confusion on Friday August 26, 2022 @05:45AM (#32605196)
Because it's done in the name of energy savings and the only reason that we all have to save energy is so the political elites of the West can play Risk against Russia.
Re:German digital signage ban prompts confusion on Friday August 26, 2022 @05:29AM (#32605061)
The normalisation of poverty in Europe would much funnier so watch if I didn't live here.

Re:Protonmail Recommended Browsers on Thursday August 25, 2022 @06:24AM (#32591800)
You guys will eventually have to get over that old "blink is chrome" trope. The world has moved on. It's time that you do.
Re:Protonmail Recommended Browsers on Thursday August 25, 2022 @06:20AM (#32591778)
You can only use a desktop app if you pay for protonmail. I suppose almost all protonmail users are free users and therefore they can only use the website.
Re:IPv6 support for cloning Git repositories from GitHub on Wednesday August 24, 2022 @04:00PM (#32584971)
I know of so many websites that break spectacularly when you do that...
Any screenshot?
>Honestly, as much as AMD's processors are often great value for money, I have never had a completely stable glitch-free AMD system.

If they are glitchy how can they be great value?

I've had the same experience over the past decades - I will never be buying AMD again.

Re:Things people blamed on bicycles on Wednesday August 24, 2022 @03:57AM (#32576143)
When driving, cyclists are dangerous for themselves and for others.

When walking, cyclists have absolutely no regard for my physical safety. When I lived in a city with a lot of cyclists I ended up developing some kind of fear that made me look around all the time because of how many cyclists had almost killed me when I was peacefully walking along the pavement.

Oh god how I hate cyclists.

Re:Europe's drought the worst in 500 years – report on Tuesday August 23, 2022 @05:38PM (#32571910)
Title: "the worst in 500 years"

Subtitle: "in what is likely the worst such event in 500 years"

Text: "appears to be the worst since at least 500 years"

Don't trust journalists.

Is this related to that thing where one restaurant creates several fake restaurants in food delivery apps?

Re:Euro falls below parity with the dollar on Monday August 22, 2022 @12:37PM (#32553834)
Of course: those who move north do so because they do not share the cultural shortcomings of the south. Therefore they are self-selecting.
Re:Apple expands Self Service Repair to Mac notebooks on Monday August 22, 2022 @12:33PM (#32553773)
Apple is doing this to placate regulators. I want them to succeed because I don't want regulators dictating how the devices I buy, from Apple or otherwise, should be. Apple is fighting by my side.
Re:Euro falls below parity with the dollar on Monday August 22, 2022 @10:40AM (#32552114)
I am from the south. We are wasting money and producing too little. We don't have the massive wealth of the north because we are culturally incapable of behaving some other way.
Re:Euro falls below parity with the dollar on Monday August 22, 2022 @10:28AM (#32551894)
It's time to inflict massive pain for the south. Can't spend any more decades wasting money.
Re:Euro falls below parity with the dollar on Monday August 22, 2022 @10:14AM (#32551678)
This is good for the European countries that export things, and bad for those who don't.
Re:Tell HN: Google Intercepting SMS on Sunday August 21, 2022 @05:15PM (#32544530)
The fact that it's an open protocol doesn't mean that it's okay to opt you into it without your permission.
Re:The Merge on Sunday August 21, 2022 @06:15AM (#32538801)
afaik the solution that has to be "guessed" is not random. We just don't know how to get to it without brute force.
Re:I recreated famous album covers with DALL-E on Saturday August 20, 2022 @04:24PM (#32534909)
I didn't know that I needed this.
And men also talk differently with other men than with women. And that's completely natural and adequate and not something that has to be fixed.
Re:App Store doesn't accept “too simple” apps on Friday August 19, 2022 @06:05PM (#32526538)
You already knew what you were getting into when you bought it, and Apple is far from having a monopoly.
Re:App Store doesn't accept “too simple” apps on Friday August 19, 2022 @06:05PM (#32526531)
Create an app with complex filters and social shit and make the app hit an HTTP endpoint to see if they should be enabled on startup. Once the app is accepted into the store, hide the stupid features remotely. :-)
Re:Removing HTTP/2 Server Push from Chrome on Friday August 19, 2022 @01:22PM (#32523761)

Cookies? Custom header?

Re:Ask HN: Why server side rendering is not used anymore on Thursday August 18, 2022 @08:27PM (#32516413)
Because people write code in terribly slow languages so they would have to have many more servers which is more expensive if they used server-side rendering.
The difference being that those people couldn't do shit about it, while the elites can (and they are working hard on it!)
