News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

fx1994

Well, my kids like old movies, they just didn't had a chance to watch them. We are rewatching old stuff like Alien, Terminator, etc. and they are surprised how good those movies are. Last night we watched movie "Kiss Me, Stupid" 1964, kids loved it.
I would dare to say it is not related to AI, but just bad acting, scripting, music, wokeism and neverending remakes.
its funny people complain on steam while they use ultra slow office or teams or windows everyday thats bloated with zillion shit no one asked, I think things should be optional, I have steelseries headphones and their drivers are shit so thank god there is open source alternative only two megabytes and does everything I need. Discord is total shit of an app I will never ever use. etc etc, steam is not super but I had zero issues last 20 years, it just works, sharing, recording, streaming, voicechat, russians took my steam completly and I was able to restore it with ease. Steam is absolute champion.

Most of us learned a lot that way, trying to squeeze and make something work out of nothing. That's why we understand much more than kids today. In the end that is the reason I still optimize stuff in my corporate company and I have a pretty awesome job, so it's a good path.
and tweaking 95 with nlite so it was blazing fast after stripping all useless stuff, great era
to be fair someone started using computers and has x worthelss security certificates but yes he will teach me how to use computer/Internet...okidoki... I just move to trash all their tests as it's just spam.
Re:Why is the Gmail app 700 MB? on Tuesday January 06, 2026 @02:24PM (#46517239)
This might be true but most of time its just bloat no one uses.
Re:Nano Banana Pro on Friday November 21, 2025 @03:36AM (#46002506)
Yeah, I'm not a dev and not using AI at all but had a need to create oauth keys and some APIs for some project... sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt and it's so complicated...but got it working in the end, thos it stops working after some time, it was like, Google, really?
Who even uses WA when there is blazing fast and feature pumped Telegram. ps. it even has a portable edition. Goat.
that's what I always brag to my devs, why is our DB 1TB, and only 20 users are working in our app. They are collecting all garbage and saving it to DB. Poor development skills I would say. Our old app did the same thing, and after 15 years it was barely 100GB with tens of users. devs today are SELECT *. If it does not work, they say we need more resources. Thats why I hate cloud.
Re:Apple M5 chip on Thursday October 16, 2025 @03:46AM (#45602547)
That's why I did not upgrade :) I upgraded VM and when I saw how slow it was, it was a no no for my M2...
Well, I guess in Ukraine there is no genocide, ruzzia can proceed to do whatever it wants. I love how sometimes people support terror sometimes not. It depends how it is presented and how strong propaganda is, and hamas propaganda is pretty strong.
Re:The Synology End Game on Friday August 29, 2025 @04:50AM (#45061750)
yup, thats why I alwys end up with microatx board, it just works, it draws power but does the job I need
Re:The Synology End Game on Friday August 29, 2025 @04:48AM (#45061735)
this hits so hard
We don't have enough time to go over things like this over and over again. Somebody already analyzed/tried all this and wrote in a book and they teach you in school from that book how it works and why. Yeah if you want to know more or understand better you can always dig it out yourself. At least today you can learn tons of stuff.

Lots of stuff on Amazon is also from Aliexpress or Temu. Crap, so if I need crap I'll try it on Aliexpress.
try to open "new" calculator on win10/win11. It's like loading another operating system... useless.
Re:Starlink User Terminal Teardown on Friday May 09, 2025 @03:06AM (#43934474)
Provider will not support my modem that is for sure so if you have any issues you are on your own. I use my own Mikrotik + Zyxel PMG3000 GPON SPF and no issues at all.
It was always me and them. They are either "nobel" or just rich. me is the rest of peasants. We pay everything and we give everything to the rich ones. Thats it.
Re:Why Layoffs Don't Work on Sunday March 09, 2025 @09:42AM (#43309012)
We are a small team in big company, and management that made wrong decisions is still somewhere there but not my direct management, still getting same paycheck, car, cards and benefits but new managers (that accepted to take over and got brand new car for 100k€, cards and bonuses, bells and whistles) started to layoff workers so we know this is the end for my team, and of course they will do whatever it takes to "save the product", but not fix the the real issue... lack of good developers to fix terrible bugs in our product.
I'm old school, I will never store anything in somebody's "cloud", rather buy X TB of disks, setup backup/sync to secondary location and I'm happy with that solution for more than 15 years.

random Internet user, yes, Sabine... no, it's all hyped, you know sometimes you just have to come to your own conclusions
Re:DOGE Has Started Gutting a Key US Technology Agency on Thursday February 13, 2025 @11:40AM (#43037876)
Make people unemployed and desparate so they will work for some other private company like Amazon or Tesla for pennies. It works fine in Russia, literally millions are volunteering to kill people in Ukraine for money, so why not try it in USA?
Re:Microsoft 365 Copilot launch was a total disaster on Monday January 27, 2025 @05:02AM (#42839315)
maybe we are locked with o365 from our IT department...
Re:Microsoft 365 Copilot launch was a total disaster on Monday January 27, 2025 @04:58AM (#42839284)
No one asked for AI integration anywhere. But still we are fed with that shit.
Huh, that is one of the things why I never liked Linux Desktop at all. Switching from Windows to Linux Desktop feels... weird, laggy. People told me I was the problem, but it seems there are more people who noticed this lag. Maybe someone can fix this :)
Re:The era of open voice assistants has arrived on Friday December 20, 2024 @03:37AM (#42469316)
What I don't like is that most voice assistances perform really bad on my native language so I don't use them at all. For english speakers yes, but for all other not so much. I guess it will get better.
I keep it in cover and film on screen since except IT in my free time I like masonry and I drop my phone like 10 times a month and it is still alive after four years :D
I never understood why one app has to cover everything. Apps are bloatware today. Same goes for Windows. All I wanted worked on 98SE or XP. How did OS get from 1GB to 30GB for listening music, surfing, some office, watching pictures? Ah yes, teams, onedrive, defender, firewall (I have my own hardware why do I need this forced) and other cloud integration no one asked for and if they ever forced only online account, that's where I draw the line with MS and I'm sure they will do it soon. They badly need and want our data.
Khm, people will not like it, but maybe he should play outside, not code with 9 years?
