Re:"I'm on a War Footing": Terry Tao and the Crisis in Math on Monday October 19, 2026 @12:57AM (#50148531)
The reason we fell first is because we embraced the copilots. We used them heavily, this gave them more and more training data on top of the code they slurped up from our using their assistants. Soon the assistant became the agent who killed the human.

They also had a rich starting point from open source code (which we somehow gave up without realising it). All of this won't happen as efficiently for these other fields, but it will happen, much in the way you've described. We (swes) turned out to be a rather dumb group of people, which is hilarious since we think we're clever.

The only moat we have is the human to human element, we need to talk to other humans in the business. Customers, etc. But once they're replaced by machines or automation, then machine to machine communication will be the preferred mode of communication and work and the legacy humans will be increasingly cut out of the loop. Human in the loop is a death sentence we just don't realise it.

I hate homeassistant. Used it for years, on and off. Currently I have it running on a rpi somewhere, I dont know how to access it, I don't want to get dependent on it and have it break when the card dies or a bad update happens. I hate home automation.

Ok codeberg, I see you. Time to make an account there.

Should large codebases even exist?
Hilarious but would they not abuse LLMs for this if so?
I'm not as smart as you folks but doesn't durable execution being a part of the solution help a lot in this respect?
Re:Local AI needs to be the norm on Tuesday May 12, 2026 @03:59PM (#48113625)
Literally will break overnight when some key dependency changes. Your LLM might not be able to fix it. Then i guess you regenerate it all from scratch? Sounds exhausting tbh.
This is another dumb AI project idea which i would have done at some point too if I didn't know better. It's one of those things where doctors will just go ahead with the fix even if they haven't evaluated the exact diagnosis, since the fix will probably be the same regardless. The human mind wants certainty though so I get it, but the fix doesn't need to be preceded by a pinpointing of the exact cause.

I suppose you meant 'not' not 'now' yeah?
>2-3 miniPCs, cloudflare, tailscale, and k3s can save (possibly tens of) thousands on SaaS products, and would probably scale you to a company of dozens AND host your product.

outline a simple real world system to illustrate?

Never heard of most of these. What a waste of a click.
Re:Where the Goblins Came From on Thursday April 30, 2026 @08:43PM (#47970149)
He's clearly mimicking one of the clankers.

Will the RLVR mechanism be improved upon or is it in some sense optimal?

>What's with all the anti-AI sentiment here? Is it a bunch of unemployed devs?

so what? if you aren't part of inflating the hype beast you're a victim of it. Eventually no one will be left to hype it because we'll all have lost the battle.

Re:Ghostty is leaving GitHub on Tuesday April 28, 2026 @06:52PM (#47941930)
I was too loyal to mercurial, only switched to git/github long after the battle was lost and won.
its in the clientside UI of the api caller that he'd want the DELETE confirmation, surely.
Re:GitHub Copilot is moving to usage-based billing on Monday April 27, 2026 @02:33PM (#47925415)
Appreciate the info. Have you got a similar opinion of the 'convert to monthly' option they've also provided?
Re:GitHub Copilot is moving to usage-based billing on Monday April 27, 2026 @02:12PM (#47925161)
Thanks this is helpful. I am on my first month of annual Pro. Should I keep it or cancel it (ask for a refund)?
Re:I am building a cloud on Friday April 24, 2026 @02:00AM (#47886160)
Isn't Dokku a worthy mention anymore?
This is some tired fanfiction no one asked for. But please, keep ringing the bell of victimhood, it's surely going to be well received this time.
Re:ReMarkable firing up to 40% of their workforce on Wednesday April 22, 2026 @10:32PM (#47871699)

This is startling.

Re:Clojure: Transducers on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @02:36PM (#47852649)
Thanks. So is this not an optimiser Clojure runtime can do for you automatically? I find the first one simpler to read and understand.
Re:Clojure: Transducers on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @01:03PM (#47851479)
These sound wild in terms of promise but I never understood them in a practical way.
bruh, why not just post the prompt. no one wants to read this slop
Directionally correct is the other kind of emdash.
The terrorist is Hegseth and co.
Yeah, going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there boss. The man Hegseth in all his 'no quarter' bravado is only affirming his own mother's claim that he is a piece of shit. respectfully of course, I would not put it past him to kill some kids for a political or terrorism reason (the parents).
He is a full time nauseating AI shill. If you happen to listen to his recent appearance on Software Engineering Radio podcast, you may just die of cringe. I had my final straw moment on AI hype during that podcast and my first I wish someone would bully that nerd moment.
Re:Astral to Join OpenAI on Friday March 20, 2026 @05:26AM (#47452310)
congrats for.. selling out? wut
Re:Thoughts on OpenAI acquiring Astral and uv/ruff/ty on Friday March 20, 2026 @03:15AM (#47451481)
they have bad taste obviously otherwise we'd all be using their project
