For one, the last official stable release of premake is from 2010.

We had rcs, cvs, svn, and now git. Why would it be the ultimate VCS and not be replaced again by something better?

Are you suggesting that killing a few people is acceptable as long as the net result is positive? I don't think that's how the law works.

There's no project manager role in Scrum so he was already doing it wrong.

Re:TSMC, Bosch, Infineon, and NXP to build fab in Germany on Thursday August 10, 2023 @04:19AM (#37073441)
Dresden is kind of a semiconductor hotspot in Germany. AMD and Infineon have factories there for example which also attracted suppliers and related technology to the area.

Why would you like a standalone IDE instead? You'd have to pay another license instead of using an existing one.

He would help you in preventing you from learning the wrong things that can take a long time to "unlearn" again later.
Re:Interactive Music Theory Cheat Sheet on Monday January 16, 2023 @08:59AM (#34400697)
"Learning the piano" is nothing like Guitar Hero, though. These apps just tell you (and check) which key to press in what order. They don't teach you anything about musicality like dynamics or articulation. They often can't even tell if you played multiple notes simultaneously or if your timing was correct.

If you cannot already play the piano, what you get is just a fancy way to learn reading (parts of) sheet music with the ability to connect a MIDI keyboard.

Yeah, just start your own Twitter if you want to build an app for it.

Most people know about scripts and what are for. Most people don't know anything about just or what a "Justfile" is.
Re:Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022 on Monday January 09, 2023 @04:24AM (#34308414)
What? That's the absolute opposite of what happens. More vitamins are retained in the food in a pressure cooker because of less water/more steam and less oxygen.
Re:German Bundestag Passes Whistleblower Protection Act on Sunday January 01, 2023 @05:06PM (#34211532)
I don't think that's very clear in the article. The law allows companies to provide incentives for internal reports but the employee/reporter is the one who can chose to do an internal and an external report.

> Personen, die beabsichtigen, Informationen über einen Verstoß zu melden, können wählen, ob sie sich an eine interne Meldestelle (§ 12) oder eine externe Meldestelle (§§ 19 bis 24) wenden. Wenn einem intern gemeldeten Verstoß nicht abgeholfen wurde, bleibt es der hinweisgebenden Person unbenommen, sich an eine externe Meldestelle zu wenden.

DeepL translation:

> Persons intending to report information about a violation may choose whether to contact an internal reporting office (Section 12) or an external reporting office (Sections 19 to 24). If an internally reported violation has not been remedied, the whistleblower is free to contact an external reporting office.

The LAG Köln disagrees with your interpretation:

This means the payment is due as soon as the month is over and according to § 286 (2) 1 BGB, the employer is immediately in default

Re:Twitter misses payroll in Germany and the UK on Tuesday November 29, 2022 @06:49AM (#33786377)
> "after the expiry" != "immediately after the expiry"

That's actually exactly what it means. Immediately after the end of the time period, the employee is entitled to the money and the employer has to pay interest for each day after that.

> If remuneration is assessed by time periods, then it is to be paid at the end of the individual time periods.

"time period" = "month"

Re:Twitter misses payroll in Germany and the UK on Tuesday November 29, 2022 @06:23AM (#33786179)
Meanwhile in the real world, salary has to be paid at the end of the month:

> BGB, Section 614

> Due date of remuneration

> Remuneration is to be paid after performance of the services. If remuneration is assessed by time periods, then it is to be paid at the end of the individual time periods.

Outlook shows national holidays in the calendar, yet its "Scheduling Assistant" is unable to figure out that people don't work on that day.
20 days are 4 weeks if you work 5 days per week.
> All that said: can someone point me in the direction of a hosted email service that is reliable (this is a must, I don't want emails to bounce and I don't want spam), has native mobile apps w/push notifications, has a good web ui, and generally just works? And can anyone confirm that once I pull my email from google apps that I could then use it for those google services?

Fastmail does all that, I'm using it for years now: https://www.fastmail.com/?STKI=/u226717

Re:$9.99/month on Monday July 18, 2022 @04:33AM (#32135914)
This is illegal in the EU.
It also cost 5 to 30 EUR per query/person and takes several weeks.
> Unless one has a medical condition preventing them from being vaccinated, who cares? We somehow got in a state where we protect unvaccinated minority who doesn’t care about how inconvenient they make the lives of everyone else.

This wouldn't be such a big problem if the unvaccinated weren't overwhelming the hospitals and ICUs, which affects everybody in case of emergencies or even planned surgeries.

> If I disagree with googles rules I can avoid google.

That's exactly what Germany's highest court denied if they "move into a dominant position and take over the provision of the framework conditions of public communication themselves" because it is not easy to avoid Google/YouTube.

To compare it with name and DOB in the government ID.

What does that mean? Don't both vaccines work exactly the same? Both are mRNA vaccines.

It's called "Vorausgefüllte Steuererklärung" (see https://www.elster.de/eportal/infoseite/belegabruf_%28privat...).
