If you want to be a theist why stop at Christianity? Why prefer one religion over the other? Theism has existed thousands of years before Christ appeared and these theists had wildly different ideas about almost everything than what Christ taught. Makes you think, who is right?

ChatGPT-4 gives the answer pretty easily:
To cross the river with the goat using the boat, you would follow these steps:
1. *Get into the boat with the goat.* 2. *Row to the other side of the river.* 3. *Disembark with the goat.*
Now, both you and the goat are on the other side of the river.

Why wouldn't someone not want to know they have AIDS? Given the disease is not a death sentence anymore and the earlier you know better your chances of survival. The warning probably deters a lot of people who could have otherwise been saved by timely treatment.

Gift of life quite often turns out to be the curse of life. If I was given the opportunity to respawn again I would politely decline than risk being born in North Korea or Sudan.

Elon showed with Twitter how you don't need hordes of engineers to run a company. He laid off 90% of the staff and still the website is doing alright (at least engineering wise). More engineers lead to more useless bullshit being created(like at Google). A lean mean team seems the way to go.

War is hell. Mostly innocents suffering on both sides of the border. And we don't seem to learn, entire human civilization's history is full of war, even peace time is just preparation for the next war.

The best thing is to go out in the sun and soak in the required D. Shortcuts like vitamin pills will always have side effects.

Aren't there plenty good open source alternatives to achieve this without aid from the government? Like something as simple as CO poisoning would do the job convincingly and cheaply.

Re:Ask HN: Is there a news source you read everyday? If so, what is it?
on Tuesday September 05, 2023 @11:08PM (#37400927)
Life is very cheap in India. Things like bus crashes, people falling off trains due to overcrowding don't even make the local news because they is always something worse and 'sensational' that grabs headlines more: https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/jaipur/raped-rajast...

Per capita emissions of India/China are much lower compared to the US. It's also easier for a developed country to try and lower their emissions than poor/developing countries to do it.

It's amazing how many poisons exist around us which can be easily used to kill anybody without much trace. Given the number of such deadly poisons, bio-attack cases using these are relatively rare.

Not just western civilization, everywhere inequality is off the charts. It's particularly haunting in developing countries like in India's Mumbai I saw homeless families with small kids sleeping on the railway station floor while some dudes were racing their lambos just across the road.

Quality of life across the entire planet has probably improved. Billions of Indians and Chinese have been lifted from gut wrenching poverty thanks to the shifting of the American manufacturing and services industry to these nations. As a result of this American living standards have decreased but it has also benefited a lot of people across the globe

on Tuesday May 30, 2023 @01:50PM (#36128045)
Because that salary is great in India which probably has at least 10x developers than Spain. And with that money you can really hire really good Indian developers who can speak English well enough, slog hard unlike the pampered Europeans and are hungrier to prove themselves in general.

A good thing to ask is why you dream about a particular thing so much. is it even your own dream? or something society has told you to believe in? why so much dissatisfaction in the first place that you have to go crazy chasing something.
Re:Ask HN: Why don't we have a best-of-class open self-learning platform?
on Monday May 15, 2023 @05:33PM (#35954777)
Searching the internet for decent material is a pain point. Wikipedia gets too complex, stackoverflow like forums don't exist for all fields, books are not freely available. Great courses from standard/mit are also not always available. Many other courses are behind paywalls. We can certainly aspire to better the status quo for open sourcing education at least to a basic graduation level of all major subjects.
