I'm hoping that this is getting upvotes for the obvious and disingenuous use of the term "fascist", which apparently has lost all meaning.
Sort of a weak and dismissive take. Tailwind saw a problem in the market, addressed it, and made money for a while. Why shouldn't that business model exist? It exists across SO MANY other industries.
People pay for aspirin, not vitamins, and Tailwind is aspirin.
You're limited by the manufacturer (CUDA is king, thus NVIDIA is the king right now) and your lack of VRAM will make using a useful model difficult.
I'm not surprised at all.
Context: I have a farm of DGX Sparks and several RTX 6000's, and can run very close to foundational models with ~2 sparks
Sadly, HN has increasingly become an echo chamber for 90% of the same kinds of partisan politics.
All model providers do this lmao
I echo the top comment - the politics here have gotten out of control.
Like it or not, Elon and his companies have changed the world for the better.
You are allowed to separate the human from the human's impact sometimes.
Generally speaking, classifying a house as "McMansion" feels like a form of gatekeeping. If the person who lives there enjoys it, who are we to judge?
I'm asking genuinely, how is this top of HN? The comments seem to indicate that HN overall doesn't find this article to be valuable at its face.
Seems to happen a lot with "ragequitting" posts. I feel like I could write "Microsoft Just Lost Me" and it could get to the top.
Lmao I'm no David Fowler fan (leftist blowhard), but he's one of the most talented and successful engineers at Microsoft. I don't think he needs to build a resume.
Unequivocally, 100% agree. Disagreeing with "them" on HN even on these issues the author agrees with would also have me consigned to the nearest gulag/re-education center. "As ever, unionize, free Palestine, trans rights are human rights, fix your heart or die."
I don't have an opinion of Elon Musk. What would you say to those who think he's a value-add to the world, or are completely neutral about them (as I am)?
Do you really think your values are that pervasive, even here in HN (which tends towards an echo chamber)?
Ignoring the spotlight is detrimental.
As a person who does consulting work, the best thing I've found I can do is stay visible with my accomplishments.
I did a presentation earlier this year for a client where the CEO was in attendance. I did not know he was going to be there. They were blown away by my presentation.
You make your own luck.
What should anyone with an X account be ashamed of, exactly?
I'm a simple man. I see Andrew Lock, I upvote.
Thanks for all of the comments. I wasn't replying simply because I haven't seen them, but based on the comments I actually got: I feel like my words would be like yelling into a vacuum regardless of what I actually say.
Just to be clear, I'm not part of any "resistance". I don't know what that is. Sounds awfully tribalistic - something I go out of my way to avoid.
Hi, Trump voter here. I'm NOT fine with this.
I've always liked the slightly different ending: "I just want my wife to be happy." And she ends up in the shack. This one is a little different!
A shame that so much of the discourse centers around one person, when in reality competition in the AI market - regardless of who it is - helps us all.
No one seemed to bat an eye when DeepSeek essentially distilled an entire model from OpenAI.
6 months severance speaks volumes more about this layoff than the video does.
I would love to see folks here who consistently hate on Trump weigh in and tell me how this is actually a bad thing? Because it feels like a good thing to me.
> The remaining thing that stings for companies is how foreign devs still need to be amortized for 15 years.
I'm having a hard time seeing the issue with this.
No, it’s not. Policy is the ultimate determinant.
I voted for Trump and the Republicans because I felt they aligned with my interests. I know a few absolute Trump haters who voted for Trump because they felt at the time that he aligned better with their interests.
That said, Trump and the Republican's bombastic language was a turn off for me.
