Question: does this make JAX obsolete? I was having fun learning it!
Well this seems sustainable.

Unfortunately it seems that often Western governments serve narrow interest groups (sometimes overseas) over their own people. In other words, open systems that have been usurped by these interest groups, including the military-industrial complex, to your point.

It is a pity, because values of the Enlightenment can be truly beautiful, and are often in fact embodied by the people themselves - just not their economic and governmental systems.

If one presumes certain material wealth is in support of the people, then hopefully fixing the underlying resource allocation system away from interest groups can, as evidenced, lead to these industries being reborn.

But the core issue to fix is the underlying systems I think. How? Well, it's tough, but perhaps some garbage collection on structures that don't actually serve the nation(s).

I'd recommend Shankar's books as a starting point.

Folks what has Meta got to do with engineering? Their products suck, we all use them because of network effects, nothing else mostly...
Re:Running local models is good now on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @03:19AM (#48566923)
I suppose cloud won because: - nobody wants to deal with the networking stack on the internet - you want servers alive all the time - it's businesses running their software on servers to serve to customers

Do these apply to AI?

We need to move to IPFS or something federated for source code
Love this - modern governance has yet to take advantage of the information revolution
I do wonder if self-host or centralised are the only options.

Something like IPFS, but that works remains my dream - decentralised, but in the cloud nonetheless.

Maybe with ai assistants, everybody is effectively technical?

I wonder if IPFS or some form of distributed storage will ever be good enough as an alternative?

The "acquired by Microsoft" curse. OpenAI is already ongoing!

Although I find my brainspace being dedicated to thinking about memory, rather than the problem at hand.

Which can be a worthwhile cost if the benefits of speed and security are needed. But I think it's certainly a cognitive cost.

Re:How Brussels writes so many laws on Thursday December 04, 2025 @11:21PM (#46156810)
I'm surprised we still don't get github for laws (or do we?) with useful automations like suggested garbage collection.

Wasn't collaboration at scale the reason Tim Berners-Lee worked on the web at CERN? :)

Would be nice to systematically start with problems of the non-uv world to highlight the specific value of uv.

But nice read!

Re:The Depegging of UST on Monday June 06, 2022 @05:27AM (#31638554)
imo the problem with UST vs DAI was not under vs over collateralisation, but rather that Luna supporting UST had its value tied to UST adoption. On the other hand, DAI is collateralised by things like Eth, which could also in theory crash, but get their value from a much wider ecosystem than just DAI - hence one potentially avoids the circularity.

I suspect the following is a big factor.

Quantitative easing has found its way in property and crypto asset price rises, in addition to inflated startup funding.

The latter is finally trickling into higher wage competition. People then move jobs as way to hop salary.

Re:Startup Ideas on Wednesday October 06, 2021 @06:34AM (#28771393)
Reminds me of this video of Paul Graham, where he says that startup ideas like a beautiful woman to a nerd, "if you got me, you wouldn't have a clue what to do with me"! [see 3:00 onwards ish in video]
