Have you ever heard the idiom "ambulance at the bottom of the cliff"?
Yeah this is cooked
Re:OpenAI discloses four more rogue incidents on Saturday October 17, 2026 @02:56PM (#50133943)
I'm sick of this "rogue" label. Nothing "went rogue".

Incompetent company chasing wild valuation removed guardrails inside a improperly designed sandbox and - shock horror - recursive algorithm with access to the Internet did bad stuff.

These articles play into the AI labs hands. Stop giving them air.

Looks nice - really - but I wouldn't touch you till you got external validation of your security practices and shared more about what you do there on your FAQs. Encrypting access tokens is just table stakes. My finances are private and not to be trusted with just anyone. The folks you compare yourself to have that type of certification but it's not listed in the comparison.

Even a SOC type 1 would show you're on the journey.

Re:Jev: New frontier model 40-400x cheaper and 20-200x faster on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @01:45AM (#49722529)
I like it. What is it?
I disagree. They did not grow up with technology in the same way we did. This is all still quite new to them, and I truly believe the ragebait strategy and polarisation is just as damaging as the tricks used to ensnare teenagers.

Voting with your wallet is still very much a valid way to protest that odious man.

Some people might not mind (or even know), but I sleep better at night trying to work as ethically as I can.

You've nailed the feel. Ignore the nay sayers!

+1 this made me glad we opted for the EU region
Re:Training our own AI models on Wednesday May 27, 2026 @01:03PM (#48297162)
It's frustrating as we literally just moved to it. Back to Mixpanel?
Re:Training our own AI models on Wednesday May 27, 2026 @01:03PM (#48297149)
Why won't companies explain what anonymisation means for them?

Posthog has unfettered logged in access to some sensitive stuff. What steps are they actually taking to scrub sensitive data from my replay before being used to train a model?

Dystopian humblebrag gymnastics.
Re:Plasma Bigscreen – 10-foot interface for KDE plasma on Saturday March 07, 2026 @01:09AM (#47284957)
Unpopular opinion, perhaps - isn't this just tech looking for a problem to solve?

The fact that the apps I would actually care about having on real estate on my front room seem to be nowhere to be seen is kinda glaring from my perspective... I know there's a certain purism to having Firefox front and center... But really?

Came here to say this. Sounded interesting but website gives me no info
100% this. Useful tool sure, don't need it to be in everything all the time for no reason.
Re:Show HN: I built a synth for my daughter on Monday November 17, 2025 @10:14PM (#45961001)
Well done. This is really inspiring.
Re:AWS Service Availability Updates on Monday October 13, 2025 @06:50PM (#45574176)
They should get real and include App Runner on this list.

So much promise as a Heroku alternative with all the AWS integrations but it's basically dead now. Not a peep from them on their public roadmap over at github.

We're having to go back to Fargate with all the operational overhead that entails.

Re:Flightcontrol: AWS PaaS on Monday October 06, 2025 @02:26PM (#45494535)
Using it. Moving off it.

RDS public by default (!), and the private config just removes the public IP address rather than puts in private subnet. Causes it to fail CIS benchmark which is requirement for FTR.

When I raised it I was told I was wrong.

I think there is a good future for the product but one size fits all config comes with downsides. IMO Would be better if it was IaC but with pre built "blocks" app, cache, etc, which you could easily customize. I also think the pricing is too steep for your average scaling bootstrapper which is where Heroku et al shined.

Re:Why I'm skeptical of Ground News on Wednesday July 09, 2025 @03:01PM (#44513656)
Am I missing something? Seems the problem is with dodgy, poorly sourced journalism, not Ground News who seem to be doing what they can.

I think there is a false sense of everything being left v right. Perhaps there could be a few more spectrums on there e.g environmental, fiscal, social?

Re:Expanding AI Overviews and Introducing AI Mode on Wednesday March 05, 2025 @01:11PM (#43270133)
I would like to meet the "power users" who asked for more of this. Enshittification marches on.
Re:Fork in the Road on Tuesday January 28, 2025 @10:51PM (#42861316)
Came here to say the same. Got musk written all over it
Re:The Impact of 25% Tariffs on Canadian GDP on Monday January 27, 2025 @08:20PM (#42847846)
Why on earth did I just read a blog post where it said - "hey, here's what some AI thought about the whole thing?"

No human analysis whatsoever. SMH. We're in a precarious spot here folks!

Re:More Speech and Fewer Mistakes on Tuesday January 07, 2025 @01:34PM (#42625699)
Polarization drives ad revenue. $10 says Zuck is going to start throwing grenades at the UK and EU soon too.

We're entering a dangerous period, and it's not for anything as noble as the virtues of absolute free speech

A demo video or screenshots are needed here. I'm not going to sign up for something I have no context for.
Looks like there's still some activity in the "scene" all these years later.

https://forum.gamemaker.io/index.php?threads/gm8-subos-proje...

This reminds me of a time circa 2005 where "Sub OSes" were somewhat popular in the GameMaker community. Seems that given enough time someone will try to make an OS-like interface in a given game engine.

It was a great way to understand UI and usability paradigms beyond building game mechanics.

This definitely triggered some pleasant nostalgia for me.

Re:Nanoplastics Promote Conditions for Parkinson on Saturday November 18, 2023 @02:41PM (#38323537)
I've been thinking about this potential link for a while.

It would be interesting to see what relationship exists with allergies here as well, which are also becoming more prevalent for reasons we don't yet understand.

Re:ChatGPT produces made-up nonexistent references on Saturday December 03, 2022 @01:30PM (#33845948)
I'm not sure whether this is another example of convincing hallucination but the linked Tweet discussing GPT3 on HN yesterday [1] suggested that adding "browsing: enabled" to the prompt allowed the model to query web pages... Could be worth a try with your prompt?
