Re:The turbulent AI era is here on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @09:54AM (#49536288)
I'm building www.freepi.ai which is ad+training supported ai coding. Try it! it'sf free to use.
Re:AI Can Make You Suck Faster Too on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @09:54AM (#49536282)
Hey! I'm building www.freepi.ai which is free! So you can also try that!
God, it feels like everyone is cancelling. If you're shopping around and willing to try a side project I've been building its www.freepi.ai its totally free coding in a pi harness (web coding front end coming soon though!) and it's Ad+training supported inference.

I'm building it so I'm totally open to feedback and would love to build something people really like.

Re:Google Antigravity introduces Boost deep reasoning (/boost) on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @10:52AM (#49522770)
I personally gave up on Antigravity. The App itself was buggy, and it's been awhile since I even considered one of their models (maybe I should go back?). As a small personal shill I've been building www.freepi.ai which is totally free (ad+training) supported inference. It's using a PI harness but I have a webfrontend coming soon. I'd love your feedback!

Well the subscriptions are kind of coming to an end anyway because they can't support the subsidies. I've been building www.freepi.ai which is totally free (ad+training) supported inference. It's using a PI harness but I have a webfrontend coming soon. I'd love your feedback!

As a soft shill here, I'm building www.freepi.ai it's free Ad+training powered inference in a Pi Harness, (currently with really fast deepseek v4 flash). I'd love if you gave it a try!
I think there is a setting for that! AS a soft shill I'm building www.freepi.ai which is free ai inference in a Pi harness, and I'm going to take that suggestion and add it!
Re:GPT-5.6 Sol Pricing Cut by 50% on Saturday August 29, 2026 @04:47PM (#49493193)
Okay I'm a bit late to this, but my side project is www.freepi.ai, it's free ad+training powered inference in a Pi Harness. So not sure if that something you'd be down to try but if you did and have feedback I'd love to try and make it work for you!
Re:Cursor Origin on Saturday August 29, 2026 @04:45PM (#49493184)
I'm a little late on replying here, but I'm building www.freepi.ai (it's ad+training powered inference). It's totally free, very fast, using the Pi harness and right now DeepSeek V4 flash. Would love if you gave it a shot!
Re:Fable and the End of the Free Lunch on Monday August 24, 2026 @09:09AM (#49419274)
Oh I have, they are good (sol terribly overbuilds though). Luna is good as well. That said Deepseek v4 flash is generally faster, and IMHO a bit smarter than luna, and it's definitely cheaper. (If you use my harness freepi.ai it's free!). So that tips the scales for me.
In general I find the CLI is more robust and reliable. I frequently hit some weird bug in the desktop versions.
Same here. I'm waiting for Cerebras to host gpt 5.6. I moved the daily driver to a Pi harness (www.freepi.ai) on DeepSeek V4 Flash from a fast provider. (disclosure this is my side project- free inference). I'm using it for implementation: Sol for planning, and then this for implementation.
Even if you're made of money Sol(xhigh) is too slow to be a daily driver. I've largely moved over to using my own harness (yes I'm trying to gtm it by sharing: www.freepi.ai- free inference! in pi! batteries included!) and my main model there is deepseek v4 flash (and I've got a fast provider!)

But seriously:

Fable still makes the best/smartest plans. That new Ox Alpha (also in Freepi right now!) can do a very good job but it doesn't necessarily recheck it's own reasoning (and can get stuck in an incorrect assumption and try to fit the world around it's reasoning) Sol xhigh is also very smart but god it's slow, and it frequently massively overbuilds. It's like it's main goal is to spend tokens so it makes your react app Soc 2 compliant before it proves it even works.

I've largely stopped using the Gemini models. :-/ just hard to justify.

Basically the only thing I care about these days is SPEED.

Are you using the desktop verion? The CLi is very robust, but these days it just feels crazy slow to me.
Re:Fable and the End of the Free Lunch on Sunday August 23, 2026 @04:46PM (#49412459)
I've been offering Deepseek V4 Flash for free in www.freepi.ai and I've started using it as my main driver as well.

Besides trying to dogfood my own product I've hit a wall in terms of my patience with a)how slow fable is b)how expensive fable is. Not to mention how often it refuses totally legitimate work.

So yeah- I've moved to DeepSeek and I actually ask the freepi harness to delegate planning to fable but then move back to doing implementation in it's own harness. My current providers are super fast so it's a joy to use.

Re:The Vibe Tax on Sunday August 23, 2026 @04:43PM (#49412435)
This really resonated for me. It's like the smarter the model gets, somehow the more tokens get burned? Same failure mode whether you’re on Claude, Codex, or Cursor: the harness will spend the whole pool if you let it. I'm building my own Harness on top of pi that is add supported (www.freepi.ai) mostly because pi is so much more efficient with tokens. (That said, it tens to be slower and vastly more verbose with information I don't need to know). But yeah, since I'm trying to offer free ad supported inference the vibe tax would kill the business model. I've even been thinking about installing the 'caveman' skill to reign in token costs.
Re:Why your local LLM feels dumber than it is on Sunday August 23, 2026 @01:13PM (#49410526)
I think it's maybe because we:

a) Load it up over time with skills and mcp servers and other junk b) We start to ask it ridiculously complicated tasks because we've normalized the power so we scale our expectations.

Re:What Is a Harness? on Sunday August 23, 2026 @01:01PM (#49410427)
I think a harness is kind of anything around the intelligence that allows the intelligence to be applied towards something, some sort of task. A great (if off-color) example I remember hearing was how Steven Hawking was brilliant, but really needed that computer setup to be able to apply his intelligence. It really stands out to me as such a clear visual example of what a harness actually is.

Anyway I've been building my own harness on top of pi- www.freepi.ai (it's based on Pi, but now I have an OpenAI compatible endpoint so I'm thinking of it more like free-api :-) ). Basically ad+training supported so I can offer completely free inference. It's really important to me that we don't have harnesses and intelligence trapped in a "have and have not" world. If we don't all have access to intelligence we will end up in a dark place.

Thats again where the visual of Steven Hawking and the wheelchair really stand out in my mind. It's not enough to have the raw intelligence, we need a really good wheelchair too.
