Re:The Megadonors Who Have Poured $1.2B into the Midterms on Monday November 02, 2026 @12:49AM (#50333529)
Don't let perfect be the enemy of good my friend. Closing a loophole that's done so much damage to the country is a good thing, even if there's another loophole waiting to be found.

That's how all changes to the law work... First you change it, then you enforce it.

I believe Hawaii already has, by redefining what rights corporations have under their state constitution. If every state followed suit, the problem would be solved.

According to [0], many tensors are a bit-perfect match to NumPy RNG output. Running a 14T model is quite expensive, I don't know if I'd waste money trying this.

Re:Deterministic Factoring in Time N^O(1) on Friday October 30, 2026 @11:15PM (#50312889)
General Number Field Sieve is the fastest general-purpose algorithm for factoring huge numbers, and is what most record factorizations use (exceptions exist for special classes of numbers). It already meets the N^o(1) bound this purports to prove, but it does so non-deterministically. The main result here is that there also exists a deterministic factoring algorithm that meets roughly the same complexity bounds as GNFS.

A convincing argument.
Re:Brown student maps the hidden global labor powering AI on Monday October 26, 2026 @03:21PM (#50249501)
How is it patronizing to say "You've never worked this job and clearly have no idea if it truly is good or not"?

If anything it's patronizing to say that staring at disturbing content all day is preferable to agricultural jobs, you know, the jobs people have been working and enjoying for literally tens of thousands of years.

Spoken like someone who's never had to do it.
Re:Lula wins election after final votes tallied on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:56PM (#50238145)
Are you taking this single congressman's word as fact?
Re:Lula wins election after final votes tallied on Sunday October 25, 2026 @09:10PM (#50237786)
The amount of mental gymnastics people will do to support fascist dictator wannabes is truly insane. For your sake I hope you find reality.
Perhaps trying to "both sides" an incident where a cop killed a literal toddler is not the best idea.
Re:Tesla profits drop 43% in Q3 on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @11:38PM (#50190916)
When the CEO of the company starts ranting and raving about "sentient cars", it's time to look somewhere else for your purchase.
Re:An Apology on Friday October 16, 2026 @12:44AM (#50114180)
Is it stalking if there is no ill intent? (No, trying to get your bike back is not ill intent)
It's really a miracle that any judicial system considers "clicking accept without reading" to be a valid form of binding contract in the first place.
I expected this to be a title typo ($2m instead of $2) but no, that's the correct number. I'm not informed on this case so I have to wonder why, the article doesn't say.
I agree. The primary gotcha about game development, that differentiates it from ordinary software development, is that the desired outcome is "fun" / "entertainment". That is not a verifiable outcome. You cannot make a unit test for fun. LLMs don't understand what "Fun" is because they've never been taught what code is and isn't fun.
They also ride into work on Polar Bears.

I can make stuff up too!

Re:New gTLD Application for .lan on Thursday October 08, 2026 @12:59PM (#50008432)
You know, just because it's in an RFC doesn't mean it's actually practical. 'home.arpa' is significantly worse than every other option.
Re:Show HN: Giving Opus 5.5 a simulated paint canvas on Friday October 02, 2026 @02:15PM (#49936732)
That doesn't matter because companies who use AI art in their projects either proudly proclaim they're using it, or actively hide it and get found out by someone and face significant backlash for hiding it. Labeling laws in the EU also make it extremely difficult to do the latter if you want to have an audience outside NA.
Re:Show HN: Giving Opus 5.5 a simulated paint canvas on Friday October 02, 2026 @02:05PM (#49936623)
Commercial art projects will not be 50% AI soon. Consumers at large hate all AI art even if it's only used in the conceptual stage and will actively avoid projects that use it.
If you think this is true then you simply lack the creativity to understand how bad domestic laws can get.
Re:OpenAI's Sam Altman to Brief UN Security Council Next Week on Sunday September 20, 2026 @05:28PM (#49780253)
They have access to all the same open models that the rest of the world does, so just fine I would think.
Re:Can you tell which images are AI-generated? on Saturday September 19, 2026 @09:36PM (#49771734)
I'm sure it's not the intended way to play but guessing randomly seems to have a net positive score, so getting a high score is as simple as spamming the buttons as fast as you can. I got 10k on mobile through this strategy.
The entire concept of IP-encumbered seeds is cruel and dangerous.
I understand if you don't like how the person phrased it, but the goal of the DM was obviously to get the store owner to replace the AI poster. Assuming that they would have gone on a crusade because they didn't pick a "preferred artist" is pure unsupported speculation on your part.
Basic economic theory states that only holds if the goods / services being provided are equivalent in the eyes of consumers. It seems self evident here that consumers do not consider them equivalent.
Unions also use the threat of striking as a leverage point against corporations. As I noted elsewhere in this thread, there seems to be a common fallacy in this thread of "threat = bad". Laws are threats too. You need a more convincing argument than this.
You seem to fundamentally misunderstand what extortion is. It's only extortion if the one extorting is the one receiving the benefit. Hiring a random artist on Fiverr would still make them happy (since the poster is not AI) but would not benefit them in any way.
Extra responsibilities = extra pay 100% of the time. Just because it doesn't happen in practice all the time doesn't make it right.
Indeed, artists provide a very valuable service. It's a shame the AI industry feels they're replaceable when they're obviously not.
