Re:AI Isn't Replacing SREs. It's Deskilling Them on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:22PM (#50312309)
I've seen some terrible AI-written tests. You have to check that code too. You have to check all the code.
Code review done properly plays a very big role in ensuring programs are correct. Everybody knows how hard it is to get complete test coverage. You need layers.

> No, it wasn’t a Nazi salute (unless Biden, and Hillary and Obama are all Nazis too having made the same motion)

Yeah just like this car's motion is the same as that of an aeroplane.

Re:Nobel Peace Prize for 2026 to Navanethem "NAVI" Pillay on Saturday October 10, 2026 @02:51AM (#50030390)
I only checked the Guardian article but there's nothing in there that shows she ran cover for anything.
But not in the Shining City on the Hill

So you're saying MAGA has "normal" empathy then? God help us.
> The fact that this outcome is surprising represents a very loud and public failure on the administration's part.

True but unfortunately there are enough dumb people in the US to vote them in again so it doesn't matter.

"Mythos5, make a presentation about X,Y,Z with nice and meaningful transitions"
The only way this could possibly produce acceptable output is if nobody was going to care or pay attention to your presentation in the first place.
In this context good faith means not saying you're here to negotiate only to stall for time while you're secretly planning to invade the other country in the background, which is exactly what the US did. So Iran has no reason to take US "negotiations" seriously ever again.
Re:Our Commitment to Windows Quality on Tuesday March 24, 2026 @12:30AM (#47498616)
Not sure why this is being downvoted. That comment was clearly implying Indians ruined MS.
Re:Reversing memory loss via gut-brain communication on Friday March 13, 2026 @01:58AM (#47361146)
Pretty sure this is correct. You only notice it when it comes right out of the top. Other days it may be 25%, 50%, or 75% of the way up. And that's still bad for your oesophagus over the long term. My dad got cancer right at the bottom and one potential cause was chronic acid reflux (GERD leading to Barrett's eosophagus).
Re:Layoffs at Block on Saturday February 28, 2026 @08:43AM (#47195282)
But there were no organisational problems according to Jack. Also do you really believe Block has reached peak productivity? Does any company ever reach it?
Re:Layoffs at Block on Saturday February 28, 2026 @08:30AM (#47195129)
The quantity of devs is not changing though. If AI really makes the existing devs more productive then the plateau should become higher.
Re:Canada slashes 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs to 6% on Friday January 16, 2026 @11:18PM (#46655182)
You may have a good point but this shows how badly America's reputation has been damaged: it's now viewed as much worse than China.
Re:Venezuela's capital hit by explosions, smoke seen on Monday January 05, 2026 @09:11AM (#46498934)
Just to clarify: Trump didn't do worse than Maduro (he got stopped) but he did do much worse than "ignore the election results" in that he actively tried to overturn the results.
Re:Venezuela's capital hit by explosions, smoke seen on Sunday January 04, 2026 @10:23AM (#46488815)
Trump himself did much worse in 2020.
Re:Venezuela's capital hit by explosions, smoke seen on Sunday January 04, 2026 @07:36AM (#46487366)
It's possible to imagine all kinds of fantastical explanations but usually the simplest one is the correct one: Trump is receiving bags of money for the pardon. Also bolstered by his past (and ongoing) behaviour of openly and shamelessly enriching himself at every opportunity.
So many discoveries only find an application decades later. If you stop persuing knowledge purely for its own sake you will never again be able to compete with countries that are serious about science and you will never again live up to your past achievements.

From the perspective of somebody outside the US it really is a shocking tragedy what the Republicans have done to what used to be the greatest country in the world. I hope you can manage to right the ship soon because I fear it may already be too late.

Surely nobody writes this XAML by hand?
Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2025) on Tuesday November 04, 2025 @12:23AM (#45807659)
Yes it's a bit confusing for multiple reasons but I think it's ai at nx1 dot com.
Performance Improvement Plan, a formal process for employees whose performance is not meeting job expectations.
Every country in the world is severely affected by Trump's reversal of climate change policy.
Re:U.S. government takes 10% stake in Intel on Friday August 22, 2025 @11:16PM (#44992798)
Yeah sure but then you do it properly. Why did Trump have to coerce them into the deal (by threatening to fire the CEO)? Just imagine what's going on behind closed doors.
Offroad is completely different to circuit racing in terms of the kinds of protection required.
What racing community? Circuit racing? If so I really think you're wrong. But always happy to learn something new.
Re:X Chief Says She Is Leaving the Social Media Platform on Thursday July 10, 2025 @10:33AM (#44521553)
So the narrative Antifa were working so hard to build turned out to be true? Well then I guess the joke's on them for having wasted their time.
Re:X Chief Says She Is Leaving the Social Media Platform on Wednesday July 09, 2025 @11:29PM (#44516909)
The owner of Twitter sieg heiled twice in front of millions of viewers. There is no need for anybody else to prove anything.
Re:Tesla sales drop for fifth month in a row in Europe on Sunday June 29, 2025 @10:57PM (#44418820)
Good point but I think it just shows how toxic the Musk brand is now.
The reason they need to offset tax cuts is because they're about to extend the huge tax cuts for the rich from the first Trump administration.
As somebody else pointed out, California does not have the capacity to produce enough olive oil for the domestic market (not even close). And as the GP said, "There are no out of work olive farmers in the US."
