Nothing?

Okay, I challenge you to eat zero calories and still maintain weight.

It's got a lot of false matches.
Re:Snowden Calls Russian-Spy Story “Absurd” on Thursday January 23, 2014 @08:49AM (#7108097)
Honestly, I think the majority American's are apathetic and don't care one way or the other.

Of those that do care, I've seen just as many saying he should be shot, as those that say he's a hero.

Re:Lost Civilisation of 20,000BC in Indonesia on Sunday January 19, 2014 @04:37AM (#7083965)
He's a geologist, not an archaeologist.

When somebody outside of a specialisation comes up with an idea that'll overturn the entire field, they're usually wrong.

Re:Mystery Rock 'Appears' in Front of Mars Rover on Friday January 17, 2014 @12:42PM (#7077170)
Pretty big.

I've often wondered why they don't send a dragline digger to Mars, so they can dig a decent trench. When Spirit's wheel broke and they started dragging it along, digging a little trench, they made a nice discovery and that was with something not designed to dig at all.

If they could get a few feet down, who knows what they could find?!

Re:Swine flu deaths rise to 17 in Bay Area on Wednesday January 15, 2014 @02:41AM (#7062132)
Stories like this annoy me. I get why it's news, new flu strains are always a possible rerun of 1918. But still.

Tens of thousands of people die every year from flu, mostly elderly people. But now 17 mostly young people have died, it's more newsworthy.

It's kinda like they're suggesting that once you're 65, your life really doesn't matter much any more.

If they really were simulating a human brain, that would have some pretty serious moral implications.
If you did want to stop CNC machines being used in Iran or North Korea, why not just use the GPS chip to disable the machines if they're inside those countries?

I don't see what's to be gained by causing the machines to fail if they've been moved to the other end of a factory.

That's where a lot of antibiotics come from.

Antibiotics that have names ending in -mycin often come from bacteria.

Re:The Fifth problem: Math and Anti-Semitism in the Soviet Union on Thursday January 02, 2014 @12:59PM (#7000978)
Anti-Semitism in Russia is a lot older than Socialism.
Re:1.85% of Steam users run Linux on Thursday January 02, 2014 @03:27AM (#6998739)
Yes, there's hardware acceleration. For games like TF2 I never dip below 45fps and I'm usually up around 75fps

TF2 isn't exactly a new game, but neither is my graphics card.

Re:1.85% of Steam users run Linux on Thursday January 02, 2014 @02:38AM (#6998620)
The open source drivers for my ATI card are pretty good. Performance isn't spectacular but it's acceptable, and I've not run into any serious bugs for years, and I have no trouble changing resolution at all.
Re:China jails World of Warcraft cybercrime group on Monday December 30, 2013 @05:45AM (#6984037)
The end result of people taking MMOs way too seriously.
Again with the drone bashing.

Civilians got killed by manned aircraft too. A-10s launching Hellfires at a wedding party, or AH-64 Apaches gunning down farmers in a field. It happens. And whether the pilot is sitting in the aircraft or a thousand miles away makes no difference. It's the same imperfect people making the same imperfect decisions based on imperfect information.

Re:Ask HN: What Linux distribution do you use? on Sunday December 29, 2013 @02:22AM (#6978766)
Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10.

Though I don't like where Ubuntu is heading, so I'm trying to find a new distro to switch to. But no luck yet.

Re:Ask HN: What's your new year resolution? on Friday December 27, 2013 @04:59AM (#6970097)
1280x1024

...and to try and resist the urge to answer every question with a bad joke.

Re:Uruguay is the Economist's Country of the Year on Thursday December 26, 2013 @07:56AM (#6966116)
Ireland has been independent for 95ish years? It's economy only really became something to be envious of around 20 years ago. 20 years out of 95 isn't a great record.
Re:The Great Big Porn Block is coming on Monday December 23, 2013 @08:43AM (#6954169)
Nothing in that article is a reason why they are introducing the porn filters in the UK
Re:Navy sailors have radiation sickness after Japan rescue on Sunday December 22, 2013 @11:09AM (#6950640)
Wikipedia says the USS Ronald Regan has a total crew of 5,680.

How statistically significant is 70 people out of 5,680 suffering serious health problems over 2.5 years? I'm guessing that most people on board were fairly young and in good health.

Re:How Far is it to Mars? on Tuesday December 17, 2013 @04:01AM (#6920191)
Or if you want the current distance.

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=distance+to+mars

Millions of dead from WW2 strategic bombing, disagree with you.
It continues to baffle me why the fact they're drones matter in the slightest.

They're not autonomous, they're flown by pilots who just happen to not be sitting in the aircraft they're flying.

Manned aircraft have killed huge groups of innocent civilians more than once, but apparently that's fine because the pilot was sitting in the aircraft.

Re:A Great Old-Timey Game-Programming Hack on Monday December 16, 2013 @04:05AM (#6913605)
Another possible way to get around interrupts overwriting your screen, would be to turn them off and update the audio after every line or two.
Re:Everyone does Not need to learn how to code on Sunday December 15, 2013 @03:09AM (#6908753)
If everyone spends a few hours programming, obviously not everyone of them is going to become a professional programmer, but some of them will discover they like programming and will continue with it. Some of those people may never have considered programming before.
Re:Reform Site Already Hacked? on Monday December 09, 2013 @03:41AM (#6873404)
It's not down for me
A very misleading headline.
Re:After 5 days, my OS doesn't crash when I press a key on Thursday December 05, 2013 @01:14AM (#6852957)
I'm guessing that a lot of the difficulty comes from the fact he's creating an OS for a PC, which is a pretty quirky and inconsistent architecture.
Huh, looking at that Orrery, I realise my mental map of the solar system was a little off.

I always though comets like Haley's went much further out on their trip away from the sun, but that shows it doesn't even reach past Pluto.

And the orbits of Mercury and Mars are a lot less circular than I thought.

Re:How inmate Michael Morton lost 25 years of his life on Wednesday December 04, 2013 @08:28AM (#6846687)
If anything, we should fix the systems that allow miscarriages of justice like this to happen.

Yet revenge seems to be the first motivation of most people. Making things worse instead of making things better.

Re:Sheerwind on Wednesday December 04, 2013 @03:46AM (#6845727)
Interesting, but I'd like to hear from someone other than the company that's making them. I'm kinda suspicious when I only hear the upsides to something like this.
